The experiences your one-year-old shares with you are essential for developing a healthy brain, growing curiosity skills, learning about language and emotions, and strengthening their relationship with you. For parents and those in a parenting role, now is the right time to continue building a healthy parent-child relationship with your one-year-old. There are many small things you can do right now to make a difference in your child’s healthy growth. The Montana Department of Health and Human Services partnered with the Center for Health and Safety Culture at Montana State University to create ParentingMontana.org. The tools shared in this podcast from ParentingMontana.org promote healthy mental, emotional, and behavioral development in your child. Although these tools were originally developed for parents in Montana, they are relevant and applicable for parents anywhere. Parents and those in a parenting role want their children to be confident, respectful, and to make healthy choices throughout their lives. Learning and using the process and tools in this podcast will give you the power to set your child up for success. The five steps in the process that you will learn to use in this podcast are: Gain Input, Teach, Practice, Support, and Recognize. As a parent or someone in a parenting role, there is so much to learn, and it does not come easy. Using this process, you will be able to address specific parenting challenges while growing a trusting relationship with your child. This relationship will be the foundation for healthy communication and problem solving with your child throughout your parenting journey.
