Do Farm Crimes Go Unaccounted For Due To Their Remoteness
Manage episode 442046353 series 2579885
On 17 August, Lucia Ndlovu, 35, and Maria Makgato, 47, were killed while collecting expired food at the Onvervaght pig farm in Polokwane. In another case, a six-year-old boy was walking with his mum in the Lutzville area, Western Cape when a farmer allegedly ran over him with his vehicle. It's alleged the 70-year-old madala drove straight into the young boy on Friday, 20 September for allegedly taking oranges from his farm. In this conversation, we discuss whether crimes committed in farms often go unpunished because of factors such as the remoteness of the farm. Lerato Mbele talks to Willie Clack, Rural criminology, Livestock theft & farm crimes Researcher at UNISA.
