As cheerful as a daisy and as bright as a sunflower, Laurna Strehl spends her professional time managing the Western Kentucky Botanical Gardens. Through fun events on the grounds to impactful projects like the Path of Hope and Healing, Laurna is helping to create a space for people to experience the healing powers of nature. Through experiencing the loss of her sister from breast cancer, Laurna learned to live her life with intention and savor each moment. She is a recent graduate of Leadership Owensboro and recently helped to restart the Leadership Owensboro Alumni Association. She serves on several boards and makes an impact the moment she steps into a room with her contagious spirit. Stop and smell the roses with Laurna.

Fierce and faith-filled, Olga McKissic is a commanding presence with a gentle soul. Originally from Owensboro, Olga, got her career start at South Central Bell in Louisville and later found herself back in Owensboro on a mission for change. Olga serves as the Executive Director of Western Academy at the Neblett, an academic enrichment program for African American and Biracial males in grades 3–12. Prior to devoting her efforts to her “scholars”, she served as Executive Director at the Neblett Center. More recently, Olga accepted a new challenge as the first black board chair of the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce. When Olga speaks, you immediately hear her wisdom and compassion for others. Olga has a strong faith and a heart for change. Owensboro has been made and continues to be immeasurably better by her impact. A beloved 1st grade teacher, Jenny Rickman, is shaping the next generation with immense love for her students. When you're greeted by her beautiful smile and warm demeanor in the halls of Highland Elementary, you do not see the many heartbreaking trials she has endured. In this episode, Jenny vulnerably shares about divorce, traumatic pregnancy, delivery, long nicu stays, and the severe metal health struggles that would take her late husband. Born and raised in Owensboro, Destiny Daugherty is a true Kentucky girl. Out of high school, she headed to Owensboro Community and Technical College, leading her to her career as a First Assist. She currently works at Owensboro Health in plastic surgery helping people with reconstruction and personal changes. She’s been married 19 years and has two kids. Their son was shockingly diagnosed with cancer as a toddler and they fought together as a family. They wouldn’t be hit with cancer just once, but again in 2020 when Destiny was diagnosed with breast cancer. And in a twist of fate, she would become the patient at the plastic surgery office she dedicated herself to (and still does). Destiny and her family have experienced many uncertain times, but show a level of gratitude for everything they’ve been through and everything they have. Born in Columbia, South America, Carolina Campos moved to Owensboro with her family when she was just 15. A graduate of Owensboro High School, she has a heart for her (now) home. She later earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s in social work from Brescia University. Today she has found her niche as the Youth Services Coordinator at Burns Middle School. Carolina contributes innovative ideas to grow the potential of her students and provide them with resources they might otherwise be missing. Leading approximately 5,000 people, Beth Steele serves as Owensboro Health’s Chief Operating Officer. With extensive experience in daily hospital operations and serving first, as a nurse, Beth used her knowledge, hard work, dedication to healthcare, and servant leadership to get where she is today. She is exactly the kind of leader you want to work with. She has implemented several workforce innovations and been integral in forming nursing shared governance, among many other initiatives. Together with her high school sweetheart, Mary Wathen O'Herron, is the proud parent to 6 amazing kids...from age 5 to teenagers. She earned a Bachelors in English and later a Bachelors in Nursing taking her to a career as a nurse on the Mother/Baby Unit at Owensboro Health. Mary not only pours into postpartum women, but her coaching through The Women's School and her own program, Rising to Sainthood, allows her to provide tools to women from all walks of life. Through her coaching, she has led close to 200 women. She also collaborates with fellow Broad, Suzanne Cecil White, leading the Fueled Women Quarterly Conference. Mary is a self-proclaimed social butterfly, has a witty sense of humor, and so many wise words. Born and raised in India, Rini had big dreams of coming to the United States. At 17 years old, she decided to move to New York City to study art. A prodigy, she was just 5 years old when her artistic talent was discovered. Continuing to create art wasn’t her only dream as a young girl. As we wrap up Season 2, we reflect on the amazing women that we had the honor of chatting with. Becca and I learned from each and every one of our Broads. Our final Broad of the season is a real gem. Sara Aud is as sweet as she is strong. Not long after marrying her soul mate, Kyle, they were happily planning to welcome their first baby, sweet Emelia. It was with much grief and heartbreak that they had to say goodbye as soon as she entered the world…a grief that doesn’t fade. After their loss and experiencing secondary infertility, they pursued adoption and welcomed sweet Elle. Since then, they have added two precious boys. Sara has several passions and talents aside from being a super wife and mom. She is an occupational therapist where she currently practices in a school setting and more recently has started helping others plan their adventures by becoming a travel agent. There is more to Sara than a grieving Mother, but yes she will always grieve. Get to know the many sides of Sara. You will be left in awe of her resilience.…
 
It doesn’t get much more authentic than Dr. Brittany McKinley. She is refreshingly real. As a practicing dentist and owner of Mint & Ivory Dentistry, she takes great care in making her clients feel comfortable. She has even enlisted the help of two therapy dogs to sit with patients when they are in her chair. Aside from working extremely hard to reach her dream as a dentist, she has experienced many trials. Just a couple of years ago, she was diagnosed with cervical cancer and endured traumatic treatments. She was then left with limited choices on completely her dream of having a third choice. She discusses her journey to finding a surrogate very close to home (or should we say work) and the emotions that have come with that journey. It’s our 50th episode! How amazing to celebrate so many impactful women over the past two seasons. Bravo Broads! On our 50th episode, we talk to go-getter, Summer Aldridge. Originally from Madisonville, she came to Owensboro to attend KWC. She returned home briefly, only to return back to Owensboro to work at her alma mater. Give her a task, she’ll go above and beyond. From her work at KWC to co-owning an event rental and planning business, Something Borrowed, Summer, gives her all. She is creative and passionate and also uses her skills to serve on the board of Habitat for Humanity. It’s definitely sweet Summer’s time. She is using her talents to serve her community in many impactful ways.…
