Aiesha is a writer/editor based in Cincinnati, and the co-founder of the Midwest Black Speculative Fiction Alliance. The cicadas had filled the plane's engines, causing them to stall. Another plane had to be called in. • Cicadas were so numerous that the National Weather Service could see a cloud of them on radar. "THIS IS NOT RAIN, AND THIS IS NOT GROUND CLUTTER," NBC meteorologist Lauryn Ricketts concurred on Twitter on Monday. "As a result, cicadas are most certainly being picked up by the radar beam." Posted Lauryn Ricketts a NBC and WTOP broadcast meterologist. • However, other scientists contested the claims that cicadas were creating clouds of specimens big enough to be seen on radar. Citing that cicadas only go 500 ft into the air at most, too low for radar mapping. However, it could be birds and bats, who eat cicadas, showing up?
