This week’s podcast hosted by Sean Price of Velez Managed Services is with Andrew Scott, CEO of Ascot Group, Managing director at Business Leader Magazine and Purplex Marketing.

“What does the term entrepreneur mean?”

Today we go right back to where it all started in Andrew Scott’s life and career. Looking at life growing up in Ireland when the IRA were prominent and times where Andrew and his family got caught up in one of the bombings at a shopping centre, as well as a separate occasion where his brother unfortunately severely injured and left in a wheelchair for the rest of his life as a result of IRA bombings. We also talk about the discrimination many people from Ireland faced when coming over to live in England, Andrew highlights and speaks on his own experiences first coming to England. Mentioning the positivity and how London specifically is a massively culturally diverse.

“It’s somebody else’s fault, it’s the government’s fault, it’s my employers’ fault, it’s my parents’ fault.”- Andrew Scott speaking about personal accountability and the trend of entitlement occurring within contemporary society, making it known that it doesn’t matter what your background is, anyone can drive to achieve success with a strong work ethic.

What does the term entrepreneur mean? We look at what it actually takes to be an entrepreneur and the sacrifices you have to take in order to achieve success. As well as the stigmas and constant fear of failure that occurs throughout someone’s career, looking at the different views Americans have compared to Europeans have. We go into in depth, the fundamentals of being a successful business owner, recognising that it actually has a lot to do with the mentality of the business, as we highlight how businesses can sometimes get stuck at a certain profit margin and they feel they cannot excel any further. When in actuality this is far from the truth. Andrew and Sean both give their thoughts on getting past the “glass ceiling” in order to succeed more and increase revenue. Reminiscing on the days where Andrew mentored Sean, they later get onto the topic of “get rich quick schemes”. Highlighting the truth that there isn’t a quick way to success and how all those schemes are a fallacy.

“You can’t have great success until you have failed”- Andrew Scott
