Kirsty explained how the organisation looks to bridge the gap where people can find themselves isolated when accessing essential services needs a digital presence in today's world. Shannon drives the desk and Tom is the passenger along for the ride on another Saturday Drop In. We speak to RNLI's Kessock Lifeboat team about the station, it's lifesaving mission, fundraising and volunteering opportunities. Guess the Year is even trickier this year with an unfortunately misplaced 'final' that became became a 'first' throws Tom and guest presenter popper inner Karen. But, Beat Detective is as true a true thing, with a Train themed edition of this or that in 'Train or Trauma'. Expect many complaints from Tom. Want to listen live? Reunited after Tom's partying last week, Shannon and Tom are back for another Saturday Drop In. It wasn't all fun and games for Tom as he limped into the studio following a swimming pool fall. Did he fall, or did he have a fall? We discuss, while Shannon looks for a wheelchair from the hospital lobby. The Ice Bucket Challenge seems to be making a come back. We had a think about challenges we wouldn't mind seeing come back to try in the studio, and many we'd rather didn't. It's national gardening week, Shannon has hit the jackpot with her sunflower haul, with her quest to be known as Dingwall's 'Sunflower Woman' well under way! Want to listen live? Whilst Tom is galavanting in the south this weekend, we've awakened our Outside Broadcast Technician from his winter slumber and got him on instead. If your a seasoned listener, you may know him as Ben. This week, we chat about Bryan Adams, Etape Loch Ness and Ben's complaint for the latest shrink-gage... the easter egg. Shannon challenges Ben's Pitbull knowledge with a game of Pitbull or Ball, can you guess the real Pitbull lyrics from the made up ones? We play Guess the Year and Beat Detective and talk extra - podcast exclusive - chat on how we're actually meant to eat a chocolate digestive, according to the cookie connoisseur. Want to listen live? So what is the Saturday in mid-Easter called? Shannon and Tom aren't sure, but they are here anyway for another Saturday Drop In. They were joined in the studio by the wonderful Ramsay McGhee from Seagull Trust Cruises. Ramsay is part of the Highland branch of Seagull Trust who take people with additional needs and the elderly on cruises along the Caledonian Canal in their adapted barge Highland Cross Seagull. https://seagulltrust.org.uk/highland-branch/ With billionaires in space we think up a good team from Highland Hospital Radio who could take hospital radio broadcasting to space. Tom seems determined to ask Shannon about Yorkshire Puddings. Shannon lets Tom know that the Saturday Drop In is her second show! We play Guess the Year and Beat Detective with a canal theme crammed in. With national feet week this week promoting good foot health (and we are supposed to be about health and well being) we play a game of 'Foot or Boot' as our This or That quiz. Shannon and Tom are back for another Saturday Drop In. Shannon is bringing something new and shiny to the show in the never ending quest for content! We're joined by Morag and Fiona from The Florian's Theatre to talk about their forthcoming production of 'Get Up and Tie Your Fingers'. The play about the 'Herring Lassies', the term for the woman who would work to process the herring catches in coastal towns around Scotland. The play, set in Eyemouth, focusses on the events of 'Black Friday' October 1881 when a storm lead to the loss of 189 men. Morag and Fiona also told us about The Florian's history and the theatre. You can find out more, and buy tickets by visiting florians.org.uk . We have our usual Guess the Year and Beat Detective. This weeks This or That sees Shannon challenge Tom to guess between Pharmaceutical terms and Dictionary words. Also titled as Doctors term or Dictionary term. The further abbreviation of Doc or Dic will definitely not lead to disaster! Want to listen live? Tune into the Drop In every Saturday from midday to 2pm at hhr.scot Follow us on social media! Join Tom Nelson with guest host Phil Walker for another Saturday Drop In. Yes, we're noticing Shannon is away again! But, it's for a good reason. More on that next week. Dropping in this week is our guest Jon Lane who has created a unique idea in 'Out There' a mobile sensory room. We chat about how the van came to be, who the van can benefit and also meet Wilfred the cat! The show was live on the day of ABBA's Agnetha Fältskog's 74th birthday, so we made quiz fan Phil take part in a special ABBA edition of This or That titled 'ABBA Ja or ABBA Naw'. See if you can match Phil's pop knowledge on ABBA hits. We also had our usual games in Guess the Year and Beat Detective, and Phil told us what it takes to put together his Tuesday night show, Makin' Trax. Want to listen live? Shannon and Tom bring you another Saturday Drop In from Highland Hospital Radio. This week were joined in the studio by John from the Puffin Hydrotherapy Pool based in Dingwall. John told us about how using the facility can compliment physiotherapy for recovery from injury, relieving pain for longterm chronic conditions and create a calm relaxing environment for neurodivergent users. John also explains how you can access the service and how the Puffin Pool, which is a registered charity, is funded. We couldn't not mention mother's day and had a chat about what that means for us, that Shannon is off again next week to visit Hinkley. Of course! 5 years on from the COVID lockdown we talked about our personal experiences and how the lockdown affected Hospital Radio in both good and bad way. Tom is joined by another guest presenter this week, Terry Henderson. Terry is the unchallenged chief quizzer at Highland Hospital Radio so expect some challenging questions during the show. Terry is also quite the thespian, and is playing a role in a forthcoming play 'The Grants of Glen Grant'. We were joined by the plays writer and director Kate Henderson who told us about the story and production. As well as that, we got to chat to some of the cast as well. The show is taking place as part of the Spirit of Speyside festival starting late April. We had your usual features in Guess the Year and Beat Detective We also chatted to Terry about 40 years in hospital radio. Want to listen live? Shannon is off enjoying a break which means we get a bonus special guest host Helen MacPherson joining Tom. Tom and Helen haven't been in the studio before, but they've done lots of outside broadcasts, and this week we got to spend Monday afternoon with some students from Millburn Academy Inverness. The students were taking part in Youth and Philanthropy Initiative Scotland. Find out how they got on in the studio and seeing a record player! We're joined in the studio with the team from Inverness Musical Theatre Company. They are celebrating 100 years of the organisation, and they came to tell us about their forthcoming production of singin' in the rain which runs from 26th March 2025 at Eden Court Theatre. Tom then gets the chance to talk with Helen about her career in commercial radio. Having one awards locally, nationally and internationally. We found out, to our cost, that the Board Game Community are not to be messed with. Tom attempts to defuse the tension with an apology. Of Sorts. We play guess the year with clues including the debut of the Higgs Boson particle and 8 out of 10 cats does countdown. Similar energies from both of those. Thanks a plenty to everyone who contributed the annual Highland Hospital Radio Music Quiz. Find out how much was raised on the night, and some long service award celebrations. The Saturday Drop In couldn't have started without Shannon's 2am wake-up call being not up to scratch! Guess The Year! We uncover the best singles of this year as well as big UK news stories too. Who knew that Glastonbury's first festival had 1,500 attendees? We got to know Tom a little bit more during our show - as well as podcast exclusive questions that you might not want to know the answer too. Beat Detective returns, it's a tricky one but that's the way we like it!
