Send us a text Nancy Matter's resilience burns brighter than nitromethane in this powerful conversation about perseverance, passion, and breaking barriers in motorsports. From her childhood days at San Fernando Raceway to becoming the first female owner-driver of a Top Fuel Funny Car in this century, Nancy's journey exemplifies the never-quit attitude that defines championship racers. What makes Nancy's story exceptional isn't just her accomplishments on the track, but how she's navigated life's most challenging turns. At just 13, she was taken under wing by the legendary Gasparelli family, helping on their funny car despite her youth. Though marriage and motherhood temporarily pulled her from racing, Nancy channeled her creativity into a music career that yielded 70 gold and platinum records. But the call of nitro never faded. After returning to the sport following a 21-year hiatus, Nancy methodically climbed the racing ladder – from Super Comp to alcohol funny car to nostalgia funny car, setting records and becoming nearly unbeatable in first-round eliminations. Just as she acquired a Top Fuel funny car in 2022, life threw its cruelest curve. A devastating personal and professional crisis nearly destroyed everything she'd built, forcing her to put racing aside while focusing on survival. Lesser souls might have surrendered, but Nancy refused to give up. Slowly, methodically, she rebuilt both her life and her race car, replacing virtually everything except the middle chassis section. Throughout these dark years, select sponsors remained loyal despite her inability to represent them on track – a testament to the respect she's earned throughout the industry. Today, Nancy stands ready to make history, proudly partnered with the American Valor Foundation honoring Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield. Rather than seeing herself as a "woman of power," Nancy identifies as an "empowered woman" serving as a beacon of inspiration regardless of gender. Her message resonates beyond motorsports: "Anybody that thinks they can't, I'm here to tell you right now you can." Ready to witness motorsports history? Follow Nancy Matter Racing on social media as she prepares to unleash this beautiful red beast on the quarter-mile. Her comeback story might just inspire your own. Send us a text What happens when you're born into a family of aviators but feel drawn to conquer the ground instead? For 18-year-old Charlotte Traynor, the answer came through motorsports, sparked simply by watching in-car camera footage on television that ignited something within her. Charlotte takes us through her unconventional journey into racing, beginning at age 13 with no family connections to the sport. From indoor karting centers to professional go-karts and now competing in the Mazda MX-5 Cup Series, her path illustrates the complex landscape young drivers must navigate to build a career in motorsports. The financial realities led her to Mazda's development ladder—a relatively affordable pathway that still offers substantial opportunities, including a $100,000 Rookie of the Year prize and significant payouts for female competitors. Beyond the technical aspects of driving, Charlotte reveals how racing transformed her from a shy teenager into someone comfortable initiating conversations and representing herself professionally. Her mental approach to the sport—maintaining "short-term memory" after setbacks and always keeping her "eyes up"—provides wisdom that extends far beyond the track. Perhaps most poignantly, she shares her experience racing at Daytona for the first time: "I was probably feeling every single emotion you could feel inside the car... It was one of those things like, okay, I'm making it, I am doing this." As motorsports evolves in the social media age, Charlotte discusses the surprising reality that teams now often ask about follower counts before race results. Her authentic perspective offers valuable insights for aspiring racers while reminding us all that perseverance matters: "You're never gonna know if you never even try... don't let anyone or anything hold you back." Ready to support the next generation of female racers? Follow Charlotte's journey and discover how passion combined with determination can open doors in even the most challenging environments. Send us a text A Lifestyle Post - Things I want My Kids To Know 1. Happiness is a lot of work. You can’t be lazy or entitled to achieve it. 2. You will make mistakes, and they will only define you if you give it that kind of power. If the lesson is learned, the mistake is worth it. It’s your choice whether or not it wins. You are not a prisoner to your past and you are allowed to grow. 3. The world owes you nothing. It does not care who you are, where you come from or what you think you deserve. Everything you achieve will have to come from your own dedication to what you love. It will not be handed to you easily. 4. People do not get to tell you who you are. Make peace with your own sould and give no one the power to tell you that you’re something you’re not. Know who you are and be okay when others do not understand you. 5. Work hard. Never go into anything with half your heart. Respect is earned by how you did the job and not the title by your name. 6. Show up your people. No matter what has happened, show up. That’s what people will remember about you in the end of all of this. 7. Choose grace for others and for yourself. No one gets it right. You won’t either. Bitterness is the anchor to the soul but grace sets you free. 8. Have fun. Be adventurous. None of us are getting out of this alive so make the time you have count with the people who actually matter. 9. Laugh in the good times and the bad. Your sense of humor and your ability to take a punch will set a strong foundation of stability. 10. Love God. He’s the most consistent source of peace and truth you’ll ever have. 11. Kindness is never wasted. Even when people don’t return it, you’ll always be proud of how you treated them. 12. Take care of your body and mind. You only get one of each, and they’ll carry you farther than you know. 13. Comparison is poison. Run your race, not someone else’s. Your story matters even if it doesn’t look like theirs. 14. Know when to walk away. Not everything deserves your energy. Protect your peace. 15. Ask questions. Curiosity leads to growth. Be willing to admit you don’t know everything and go find the answers. 16. Be honest, even when it’s hard. Integrity isn’t always easy, but it’s always worth it. 17. Stand up for the underdog. You’ll never regret being someone else’s courage when they had none. 18. Keep showing up. The wins are great, but the growth is in the showing up—especially when it’s hard. 19. Never stop learning. Books, people, places—everything has something to teach you. 20. Say 'I love you' often. And mean it. Life is short, and love is the most powerful legacy you’ll ever leave. Send us a text Granfluencers — Redefining Influence at Any Age Welcome back to the show! Today, we’re diving into a powerful and inspiring trend that's flipping the script on social media marketing — Granfluencers. So, who are Granfluencers? Granfluencers are social media stars typically aged 60 and above, who have built massive, loyal followings on platforms like TikTok and Instagram. Their content spans everything from fashion and fitness to humor and life advice — all delivered with authenticity, experience, and a zest for life that challenges every outdated stereotype about aging. What Makes Granfluencers So Special? First, it’s their authenticity and relatability. Granfluencers share real life experiences, real humor, and real wisdom. Whether they're giving dating advice at 90 or showing off the latest dance trends, their content resonates deeply — not just with their peers, but with younger audiences hungry for genuine voices. Second, they’re breaking down age barriers. Granfluencers prove that vitality, relevance, and influence aren’t confined to youth. By embracing trends and showcasing personal style, they demonstrate that life doesn’t slow down — it evolves. And third, they offer cross-generational appeal. Granfluencers naturally bridge the gap between generations. They foster respect, connection, and admiration between older and younger audiences — something brands have struggled to do for decades. Meet Some of the Leading Granfluencers: @grandma_droniak (Lillian Droniak): At 94 years old, Lillian has over 13 million TikTok followers. She dishes out candid advice on everything from funerals to relationships — always with a wink and a laugh. @baddiewinkle (Helen Ruth Elam): Known as the original granfluencer, Helen is 95 years young and boasts more than 3 million Instagram followers. Her bold fashion and unapologetic attitude have made her an icon for living out loud. @trainwithjoan (Joan MacDonald): At 70, Joan decided to completely transform her health — and today, she inspires nearly 2 million followers with her fitness journey, showing that it’s never too late to take control of your well-being. @iconaccidental (Lyn Slater): A former professor turned fashion sensation, Lyn challenges ageism in the fashion industry, promoting self-expression and confidence at any age. Why Are Granfluencers Gaining So Much Popularity? Because their rise is about more than social media — it’s about society finally valuing the wisdom, experience, and vibrancy of older generations. In a digital world often dominated by younger influencers, Granfluencers bring refreshing, authentic perspectives. Brands are catching on too, realizing that collaborating with Granfluencers doesn’t just tap into a massive market — it brings credibility, authenticity, and cross-generational reach. Now, Let’s Talk Numbers: Here’s what marketers need to hear loud and clear: Baby Boomers — those born between 1946 and 1964 — hold more than $2.6 trillion in spending power. They control about 70% of all disposable income in the United States. Yet too often, they're overlooked in favor of chasing Millennials and Gen Z. Big mistake. Send us a text In this heartfelt and revealing episode, Melinda Russell sits down with Dell Hamilton , a serial entrepreneur, former NASCAR team owner, and longtime supporter of women in racing. Dell shares how he used NASCAR not just for the thrill of the sport, but as a powerful tool to build lasting business relationships, honor the military, and support ethical and talented female drivers. From humble beginnings watching race traffic from his church parking lot in Charlotte, NC, Dell walks us through his journey into NASCAR—from a curious pit pass guest to sponsoring cars and eventually co-owning teams. With honesty and humor, Dell reflects on working with drivers like Blake Koch, Michael McDowell, and Jennifer Jo Cobb, and the hard realities many racers face when trying to climb the NASCAR ladder without deep pockets or big-name backing. He talks candidly about the importance of integrity, personality, and relationship-building in motorsports and explains how young women, if given a real chance, can generate massive sponsor value. His passion for mentorship, military outreach, and storytelling shines through as he encourages business owners to take a leap of faith and support emerging female talent in the sport. Dell also shares lessons learned from years of navigating NASCAR’s business model, the media challenges surrounding branding and video rights, and his latest venture— Cruising Still the One , a YouTube boating channel blending fun, education, and adventure. This episode is a must-listen for anyone passionate about the business side of racing, female representation in motorsports, and how one man used racing not just to win, but to inspire and connect . Send us a text In this episode, host Melinda Russell welcomes Jacqueline Rumley , a lifelong motorsports enthusiast, educator, and industry professional, to the show. Jacqueline shares her journey from growing up immersed in dirt track racing in Ontario, Canada, to building a successful career in motorsports in North Carolina. Influenced by her parents' deep involvement in racing, Jacqueline developed a love for the sport at an early age, eventually choosing it over her initial interest in veterinary science. Jacqueline recounts her bold move at age 19 to North Carolina to pursue her dreams, enrolling in the Motorsports Management Program at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College —the same program where she now teaches. She discusses the program’s unique combination of business and technical coursework, the affordable options it offers (especially for North Carolina residents), and how she helps students find their path into the racing industry. Mentorship and connecting students with real-world opportunities are a major focus of her teaching philosophy. Jacqueline also talks about her personal life, including her marriage to Kevin Rumley, a well-respected dirt racing engineer. Together, they balance work and life around the racing schedule, often traveling to major dirt late model events such as The Dream at Eldora and the Prairie Dirt Classic at Fairbury , which she describes as highlights of their summer. The episode also touches on the power and pitfalls of social media in racing, advice for managing negative feedback professionally, and Jacqueline’s exciting new project — collaborating with Lionel Racing to develop a high-quality dirt late model die-cast model. The conversation is filled with heartfelt moments about the importance of community, mentorship, resilience, and the many career opportunities that exist in motorsports beyond driving. Jacqueline’s story showcases how passion, hard work, and a willingness to take risks can lead to a fulfilling and impactful career in racing. Send us a text Laura Ely, a dedicated racing enthusiast, shared her journey into motorsports, which began later in life. Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, she now resides in the San Francisco Bay Area. Growing up with a father who owned a Buick dealership and being a fan of the Unsers, she always had an interest in cars. However, it wasn’t until she was introduced to track days by a colleague that she realized she could participate in racing herself. With a background in business, including running a successful software company, Laura was able to invest in her passion. She started with high-performance driving events and quickly transitioned into club racing. Currently, she competes in the Porsche Sprint Challenge North America, racing in the Masters class. Beyond the thrill of competition, Laura finds motorsports to be a strong social and community-driven activity. She has built a small team, sharing a garage and resources with other drivers to make racing more financially sustainable. She also actively supports women in racing, mentoring and coaching new drivers, and participating in outreach events to inspire young women to enter the sport. One of Laura’s proudest moments was standing on the podium at the Miami F1 race in 2023 after finishing third in her races, experiencing the full professional racing treatment. She acknowledges that motorsports can be costly, and while she hopes to continue racing, she is also aware of the financial considerations that may lead her to transition into other roles in the sport. Laura emphasizes that racing is a viable sport for women, as the car doesn’t recognize gender. With increasing female participation, she hopes to see continued growth in opportunities for women in motorsports. She remains engaged in the community, whether actively competing, mentoring, or simply supporting fellow racers. She encourages anyone interested in racing to start with high-performance driving events, which provide structured coaching and a safe way to experience track driving. Laura is active on social media under Black Sheep Racing Team, where she continues to share her racing journey and inspire others.
