Dr. Amy Hughes is a medical oncologist with Mission Cancer + Blood in Des Moines, IA. With 15 years of experience in oncology, she is deeply aware of the challenges a cancer diagnosis creates. She has dedicated her career to helping patients navigate these hurdles gracefully and empathetically. She was a Hospice volunteer for many years before her medical career and is also a certified death doula. Dr. Hughes noticed that often, she was seeing patients facing the end of life with a great sense of anxiety and fear about leaving loved ones behind. This experience, in combination with her own personal losses, led her to found the 501c3 non-profit Amadora Legacy Project, with a mission to create lasting gifts of love by capturing the life stories on film of those with life-limiting illnesses. She feels passionate about normalizing the conversation around end-of-life, removing the stigma, and encouraging ALL people to be prepared because none of us know where life will take us.
