In this final episode of Season 6, Nathan and Bob tackle what might be Jesus’ most challenging teaching: loving our enemies. They explore how this ancient wisdom completely reframes what authentic love looks like by calling us to extend compassion beyond our comfortable boundaries. Through their conversation, Nathan and Bob reveal how Jesus challenged the religious establishment that had justified hatred of outsiders, offering instead a revolutionary perspective: God loves everyone unconditionally—even those who oppose or hurt us. This teaching wasn’t just countercultural 2,000 years ago—it remains challenging in our own divided world. This episode uncovers: - How praying for those who hurt us transforms our own hearts first - Why holding people accountable and loving them aren’t opposing concepts - How this radical love distinguishes a transformed life from merely following social norms - What it means to pursue “perfection” in love rather than impossible moral flawlessness Whether you’re navigating political divisions, workplace tensions, family conflicts, or personal wounds, this episode offers a timely perspective that transcends human divisions. Join the conversation as Season 6 concludes with this powerful exploration of a love that can reshape how we see and treat everyone around us. In this episode of Loveshaped Life, hosts Nathan and Bob examine Jesus' teaching in Matthew 5:38-42, where he transforms the "eye for an eye" principle into a higher standard of non-retaliation. While the Old Testament principle limited excessive revenge, Jesus calls followers to demonstrate kingdom values through radical generosity and kindness. The hosts explore Jesus' counter-cultural examples: turning the other cheek, giving extra when sued, going the second mile, and freely giving to those who ask. Nathan connects these principles to Martin Luther King Jr.'s non-violent resistance approach, while Bob explains how responding with kindness can defuse conflict and reflect God's giving nature. They conclude that these teachings aren't merely moral instructions but transformative practices, making beautiful people. As people experience this love, they naturally reflect generosity in their interactions, preparing them to participate in God's ultimate restoration plan—what Nathan describes as "resettling planet Earth" with those who have learned to respond to evil with good. In this thought-provoking episode, Nathan and Bob examine how Jesus' teaching in Matthew 5:33-37 calls believers to a life of simple truthfulness rather than elaborate oath-taking. They reveal how our culture's integrity crisis extends beyond just broken trust in institutions to the personal damage lying inflicts on the liar, creating a destructive cycle where "one lie leads to another lie." The hosts challenge the common assumption that truthfulness comes through sheer determination, suggesting instead that integrity flows naturally from a heart transformed by God. This inside-out approach means focusing less on perfecting our truthfulness and more on allowing Jesus to shape our character so that honesty becomes our natural response. For those caught in patterns of deception—whether small "white lies" or more significant dishonesty—the episode offers the hopeful message that God's love can restore authentic living. Drawing on Bonhoeffer's wisdom that "truth establishes genuine brotherhood," Nathan and Bob invite listeners to experience the freedom that comes when our words consistently reflect our reality. In this episode of the Loveshaped Life podcast, hosts Nathan and Bob continue their exploration of Jesus’ teachings on living as “salt and light” in society. They examine the second of five examples Jesus gave about Kingdom living, focusing on adultery, sexual purity, and the integrity of marriage relationships. The conversation delves into how Jesus elevates the standard from merely avoiding physical adultery to addressing the root causes in the heart. Nathan and Bob discuss the difference between natural attraction and intentional lust, explaining how Jesus pinpoints the moment when thoughts become cultivated choices. They emphasize that Jesus isn’t simply imposing moral rules but inviting transformation that changes how we view and value others. The hosts conclude by highlighting the sacred nature of the marriage covenant while acknowledging the complexities of relationship struggles. They stress that God's love remains constant regardless of past choices, offering hope and freedom to those seeking to live within the framework of God’s design for relationships. The episode reinforces that true change comes not from external conformity but from internal transformation through relationship with God. For more info: loveshaped.life…
In this episode of the Loveshaped Life podcast, Nathan and Bob explore Jesus' teaching on anger and reconciliation from his Sermon on the Mount. They examine how Jesus elevated the ancient command "do not murder" to address the deeper issues of anger, resentment, and hatred in the heart, explaining that the quality of goodness Jesus seeks goes far beyond external behavior to internal transformation. The discussion delves into practical applications for modern life, from political divisions to workplace conflicts. Nathan and Bob share insights on how harboring anger imprisons the one who holds it rather than the target of their anger, and they explore practical steps for dealing with anger and pursuing reconciliation. Through examples like Corrie ten Boom's story and the transformation of the "Sons of Thunder," they illustrate how choosing forgiveness leads to personal freedom. The episode concludes by examining Jesus' teaching on reconciliation taking precedence over religious practice and the importance of settling disputes quickly. Nathan and Bob emphasize that kingdom living isn't just about following rules but about experiencing heart transformation that naturally leads to healthier relationships and community. They challenge listeners to go beyond giving others "the benefit of the doubt" to assuming good faith, reflecting God's approach to human relationships. For more info: loveshaped.life…

In this enlightening, second episode of the sixth season of our Loveshaped Life Podcast, Nathan and Bob continue their exploration of Jesus's profound metaphor of his followers being "salt" and "light" in the world. The discussion reveals how Jesus envisioned his followers as those who would elevate the quality of life around them, exemplifying the highest form of love through their actions and way of living. The conversation takes a thoughtful turn as the hosts examine how Jesus's teachings challenged traditional religious perspectives of his time and continue to challenge contemporary views of God. They discuss how Jesus presented a radical understanding of divine love that went beyond conventional religious practices, encouraging his followers to embody this transformative love in tangible ways. This interpretation calls believers to move beyond passive faith to active engagement with their homes, workplaces, and communities. The episode concludes by exploring the practical implications of being "salt" and "light" in today's world. Nathan and Bob emphasize how this calling transforms not only individual believers but also has the potential to positively impact entire communities, no matter how large or small. They discuss how acts of love and good deeds serve as practical expressions of faith, creating a ripple effect that elevates the quality of life for everyone in the community, regardless of their beliefs or background. In this premiere of Season 6 of the Loveshaped Life podcast, hosts Nathan and Bob return to continue their exploration of God's radical love. Building directly on the foundation laid in Season 5, this episode marks the beginning of a new chapter in their ongoing discussion about experiencing and living in the wonder of divine love. The episode delves into the profound teachings found in Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, with particular emphasis on the metaphorical concepts of being "salt" and "light" in the world. Nathan and Bob skillfully unpack these teachings, examining how they relate to the authentic expression of faith in today's context. Their discussion bridges the gap between ancient wisdom and modern application, highlighting how these principles remain relevant for contemporary listeners. Through their engaging dialogue, the hosts challenge listeners to embrace a deeper understanding of Jesus' kingdom, which manifests through radical love and compassion rather than political power or earthly authority. This perspective offers a refreshing contrast to common misconceptions about religious practice, inviting audiences to discover a more authentic and transformative approach to faith. The episode sets a compelling tone for the season ahead, promising to continue providing inspiration and insights for listeners seeking to center their lives around divine love. In this final episode of the Loveshaped Life Podcast’s fifth season, hosts Nathan and Bob discuss the seventh principle for a flourishing life: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.” This principle, part of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, challenges the expectations of Jesus’ original audience and remains equally radical today. While many anticipated a militant Messiah to overthrow Roman rule, Jesus instead called his followers to be peacemakers, contrasting sharply with societal tendencies toward division, anger, and hostility. (Sound familiar?) The hosts emphasize that true peacemaking, rooted in the love of Christ, goes beyond merely avoiding conflict or enforcing external behavior changes. It involves a transformation of the heart, leading to reconciliation with God and others. This concept stands in stark contrast to religious or political movements that foster hatred or division. Nathan and Bob argue that any leader inciting hatred or attack on others cannot be truly following God's will, as Jesus’ call to peacemaking is fundamentally about demonstrating God’s love and leading others to experience his peace. The episode concludes by connecting peacemaking to the other principles discussed throughout the season. The hosts describe how acknowledging one’s brokenness, experiencing God’s love, showing mercy, and undergoing inner purification all contribute to becoming effective peacemakers. They encourage listeners to embrace this challenging yet rewarding path, recognizing that while it may get us into trouble (not everyone’s a fan of peacemaking), it also aligns believers with God’s work in the world. The hosts invite their audience to start this journey of spiritual growth, emphasizing that experiencing and living out these principles leads to true joy and flourishing in God’s presence. In this episode of the Loveshaped Life podcast, hosts Nathan and Bob explore the sixth principle for a flourishing life: "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God." They emphasize that true purity of heart is not about external religious practices or rituals, but rather an internal transformation that occurs as we engage in acts of mercy and love towards others. This principle builds upon the previous beatitudes, highlighting the progressive nature of spiritual growth and the importance of allowing God's love to flow through us to those around us. The hosts discuss how purity of heart is intimately connected with becoming more like God in character. They explain that this process of purification happens as we exercise mercy and kindness in our daily lives, rather than through isolation or strict adherence to religious rules. Nathan and Bob stress that this journey towards purity is ongoing and includes moments of failure and growth. They encourage listeners to embrace the process, understanding that God's love remains constant regardless of our mistakes. Finally, the episode delves into the promise that the pure in heart "shall see God." This seeing is described not just as a future face-to-face encounter, but as an increasing ability to perceive God's beauty and character in the present. As we allow God's love to transform us and as we engage in loving others, our capacity to see and know God deepens. The hosts conclude by reminding listeners that God's love is lavished upon us, inviting us into a relationship where we can experience the wonder of being called children of God. In this fifth episode of the fifth season of the Loveshaped Life podcast, hosts Nathan and Bob explore the fifth principle of flourishing from Jesus' Sermon on the Mount: "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall be shown mercy." They discuss how this beatitude represents a shift from the internal transformation of the heart to the outward expression of God's love. The hosts emphasize that mercy is a fundamental attribute of God, demonstrated throughout the Bible and ultimately through Jesus' life and death. Nathan and Bob explain that mercy involves treating others with kindness and compassion, especially when one has the power to do otherwise. They highlight that experiencing God's mercy naturally leads to showing mercy to others, creating a cycle of giving and receiving. This principle is not about guilt-driven actions but rather a natural outflow of a heart transformed by God's love. The hosts stress that practicing mercy strengthens one's character and can have profound impacts on others, even through simple acts of kindness. The podcast concludes by encouraging listeners to reflect on God's mercy in their lives and to imitate it in their interactions with others. Nathan and Bob emphasize that the Christian journey is about seeing God's character and experiencing its life-shaping power, leading to a flourishing life. They clarify that while this doesn't guarantee a life without challenges, it equips individuals to navigate difficulties with grace. For more, visit loveshaped.life .…
In this enlightening episode of the Loveshaped Life podcast, hosts Nathan and Bob continue their deep-dive into Jesus' mountainside teaching, with a look at the fourth Beatitude: "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled." They unpack the profound difference between the superficial righteousness of religious performance and the transformative righteousness that Jesus offers. The hosts masterfully contrast the outward, rule-based righteousness of the Pharisees with the inward, love-driven righteousness that characterizes God's kingdom. Through powerful biblical examples and personal insights, they illustrate how true righteousness isn't about meticulous adherence to religious rituals, but about allowing God to transform us from the inside out. Listeners are invited to experience a paradigm shift in their understanding of spiritual growth. Nathan and Bob emphasize that God's ultimate goal isn't to create religious people, but to shape us into individuals who love as he loves. They paint a compelling picture of a flourishing life filled with joy, peace, and deep satisfaction that comes from leaning into God's radical love and allowing him to satisfy our deepest spiritual hunger and thirst. loveshaped.life…
As we explore the third principle of Jesus' teachings on a flourishing life, we discover the power of meekness. Far from being weakness, true meekness is strength under control, the ability to hold power gently. This attribute is born out of acknowledging our own brokenness and need for God's grace, moving us to treat others with the same compassion we've received. Jesus invites us to come to Him, weary and burdened as we are, promising rest for our souls. This rest isn't just physical, but a deep spiritual peace that comes from letting go of our facades and allowing God to reshape us from the inside out. It's a journey of authenticity, where we no longer need to maintain a curated image but can be genuinely beautiful people. The path to this flourishing life is both fast and slow - fast in God's immediate embrace and forgiveness, but slow in the lifelong process of transformation. As we lean into this loveshaped life, we begin to reflect the character of our Creator - the most powerful being in the universe who is also the most humble and meek. This is the upside-down kingdom of Jesus, where greatness is found in servanthood and true strength in gentleness. loveshaped.life…
In this episode of the Love Shaped Life Podcast, hosts Nathan and Bob continue their exploration of Jesus’ inaugural speech, focusing on the second principle for a flourishing life: “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” They discuss how this principle relates to acknowledging one’s brokenness and opening up to God’s healing presence. The hosts emphasize that this process is not about wallowing in guilt or shame, but rather about experiencing the comfort and forgiveness that God offers. The conversation delves into the parable of the prodigal son, using it as an illustration of God’s unconditional love and eagerness to welcome back those who turn to Him. Nathan and Bob highlight how this story challenges common misconceptions about God’s nature, presenting Him as a loving father rather than a harsh, punitive figure. They encourage listeners to embrace this true picture of God’s character, letting go of potentially toxic religious backgrounds. Throughout the episode, the hosts stress the importance of confronting one’s own brokenness as a pathway to healing and transformation. They share personal experiences and insights, emphasizing that while the process of “mourning” can be challenging, it is essential for experiencing the flourishing life that Jesus promises. The episode concludes with an invitation for listeners to lean into God’s love and embrace the principles Jesus teaches for a truly fulfilling life. loveshaped.life…
In this inaugural episode of our fifth season, Bob and Nathan delve into the transformative power of God’s love, exploring how it creates a sanctuary for authentic self-reflection and spiritual wellness. In a world that often demands perfection, God's unconditional acceptance allows us to embrace our imperfections, setting the stage for profound personal growth and inner peace. The hosts examine Jesus’ teachings, particularly the Sermon on the Mount, focusing on the first Beatitude: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:3, NIV). This powerful statement challenges our tendency towards self-centered living and invites us into a journey of other-centered living, mirroring God’s own nature. This episode encourages listeners to embark on a spiritual journey, regardless of their current state—whether broken, lost, or struggling. By acknowledging our need for divine intervention, we open ourselves to the healing love that God offers, paving the way for authentic faith and spiritual transformation. The hosts emphasize that recognizing our spiritual poverty is not a weakness, but the first step towards experiencing a truly flourishing life shaped by God's transformative power. loveshaped.life…
