×In today's Daily Fix:Lucasfilm dropped the first official image from the set of the latest Star Wars movie, Starfighter. There's not much going on in the black-and-white photo—just star Ryan Gosling and costar FLynn Gray hanging out on what looks like a landspeeder—as production has only recently gotten underway. It's directed by Deadpool & Wolverine's Shawn Levy, and will be out in 2027. In other news, Crystal Dynamics has let go of an unknown number of workers following the cancelation of Perfect Dark. The game was in development hell for years, but showed signs of life last year with a new gameplay video, until Microsoft ultimately decided to pull the plug. And finally, PlayStation Plus is getting an Xbox game, with Psychonauts 2 leading the pack of new games coming to the service. The game was developed by Microsoft-owned Doublefine Studios.…
In today's Daily Fix:The Nintendo Switch 2 has sold around two million units from its launch at the beginning of June through the end of July. Two million consoles sold in two months outpaces the orginal Switch's sales during the same two-month launch period back in 2017, by about 75%. The Switch 2 Pro Controller is also the best-selling accessory of the year so far. In other news, Amazon has reportedly set a date for the beginning of filming for its Mass Effect series: Q4 2026. Story details make it seem like the show will adapt at least the first game, so fans can probably expect a straightforward adaptation (unlike what the Halo live-action series got). And finally, Gears of War: Reloaded is having a rough launch on Steam, with many players reporting crashes, and some pre-order bonuses missing.…
In today's Daily Fix:Hollow Knight: Silksong is barely two weeks away, and gamers seem to be flooding back to the original in preparation. According to SteamDB, 2017's Hollow Knight hit an all-time concurrent high with 23,840 players this week. While it's not the most concurrents across all Steam games, it is a franchise peak. In other news, Donkey Kong Bananza's somewhat controversial control scheme came at the suggestion of Donkey Kong creator Shigeru Miyamoto. Bananza's game director, Kazuya Takahashi, revealed that it was Miyamoto's idea, but they left the option to swap the 'punch down' and 'jump' buttons in case players had a hard time re-wiring their muscle memory. And finally, take to the skies with the cast of How to Train Your Dragon in Hiccup's Wing Gliders at Universal Epic Universe.Presented by Universal Orlando Resort and its new theme park, Universal Epic Universe.…
In today's Daily Fix:An Australian car import company may have accidentally revealed the location of Forza Horizon 6. Car import firm Cult and Classic posted—then deleted—a photo on Instagram reportedly showing a Forza Horizon dev taking photos of a kei-model car, a smaller style of vehicle that's found mainly in Japan. The post stated that kei cars aren't sold in the U.S. and have to be imported into Australia from Japan, leading Forza fans to believe that the next Forza Horizon game will be set in Japan. In other news, Hollow Knight: Silksong finally has a release date. No really, it does. It'll be out in just a few weeks, September 4th. And join the Ride Guys on a preview of Universal Epic Universe's latest attraction—Stardust Racers.Presented by Universal Orlando Resort, and its new theme park, Universal Epic Universe.…
In today's Daily Fix:Sony has joined the console price-raising bandwagon and hiked the MSRP of the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, and the PlayStation 5 Pro—each by $50. The PS5 will now cost $549, the PS5 Digital is $499, and the PS5 Pro is $749. Sony has not announced a specific reason for the price hike, only citing a 'challenging economic environment.' Prices for accessories have not changed. In other news, a new Halloween video game has been announced by Illfonic, the makers of the Friday the 13th and Killer Klowns from Outer Space games. This new title will be made in collaboration with John Carpenter, and has a 2026 release window. And check out a preview of the new ride, Hiccup's Wing Gliders, at Universal Epic Universe.Presented by Universal Orlando Resort and its new theme park, Universal Epic Universe.…
In today's Daily Fix:Battlefield and Call of Duty are set to go head-to-head again this Fall, with Battlefield 6 dropping in October, and Black Ops 7 in November. But the sentiment after a succesful open beta period is that Battlefield will be the one to grab gamers' attention, with former Blizzard president Mike Ybarra saying that Battlefield will 'boot stomp' CoD this year. But Treyarch's Miles Leslie thinks there's room for both, saying the Black Ops 7 dev is trying to shut out the noise and make the best game they can. In other news, Xbox dropped a trailer for the upcoming DLC to Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, titled 'The Order of Giants.' The trailer also revealed a Switch 2 release sometime next year. And finally, we’ve got a peek at the five immersive worlds of the all-new Universal Epic Universe, and one of its featured attractions – Stardust Racers, all at Universal Orlando Resort.Presented by Universal Orlando Resort, and its new theme park, Universal Epic Universe.…
Legendary game designer Yuu Suzuki and Inin Games have announced an upgraded version of Shenmue 3, coming to all current-gen consoles and PC. This new version will feature 4K textures, faster loading times, and upgrades to the gameplay, among other improvements. Speaking of announcements, the next entry in the lauded WW1 FPS series, Gallipoli, has been revealed. This new game will take place in the Middle Eastern campaign, during the Battle of Gallipoli. And we have a preview of the new Isle of Berk expansion at Universal Epic Universe, and it's brand-new ride—Hiccup's Wing Gliders.Presented by Universal Orlando Resort and its new theme park, Universal Epic Universe.…
In today's Daily Fix:Call of Duty: Black Ops 7's release date has been leaked, and you can expect to play is starting November 14th. Unless you're hoping to play on Switch 2, in which case you may be waiting a bit longer. Black Ops 7 is expected to hit pretty much every major console—yes, even PS4 and Xbox One—except the Nintendo ones. Microsoft and Nintendo have a legally binding agreement to bring Call of Duty to the Switch platform, so it's likely a case of 'when' and not 'if' when it comes to a Switch 2 port. In other news, screenwriter and Solid Snake voice actor David Hayter has finally played Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. After voicing the character across several games starting with Metal Gear Solid in 1998, Hayter was unceremoniously booted from the role for MGS5 in 2015, only to be replaced by the more mainstream Keifer Sutherland. But Hayter has since gotten over it and played MGS5, which he thinks is 'amazing.' And we'll take a look at how all of Borderlands 4’s Vault Hunters can work together to take out a boss.Presented by Borderlands 4.…
In today's Daily Fix:Former head of Sony Worldwide Studios, Shawn Layden, took aim at gaming subscriptions services. In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Layden said sub services can turn game devs into 'wage slaves' and that those services don't add anything to the industry. He mentioned Xbox's Game Pass specifically, asking the rhetorical question, "is it healthy for the developer?" In kind of related news, PlayStation Plus is adding new games this month, headlined by Mortal Kombat 1 and Marvel's Spider-Man. Some smaller, but still worthwhile, titles being added are Harold Halibut, Indika, Unicorn Overlord, and more. And we meet the final Borderlands 4 vault hunter—Amon the Forgeknight.Presented by Borderlands 4.…
In today's Daily Fix: PUBG Studios have announced that they are shutting down the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of PUBG: Battlegrounds. Those last-gen consoles are more than 12 years old at this point, and the current-gen PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are well into the middle of their lifespans, so it's not entirely surprising. They did confirm that cosmetics and other items purchased and tied to a player's account will transfer to the current-gen versions of the game. In other news, inZoi, the hyper-realistic life sim aiming to dethrone EA's The Sims, will get a PS5 release sometime next year. The dev team also hasn't ruled out an Xbox Series X or S version, but no decision has been made on that port. And finally, we have an introduction to one of Borderlands 4's vault hunters—Harlowe the Gravitar.Presented by Borderlands 4.…
In today's Daily Fix:A new Helldivers 2 Xbox trailer has just dropped, and while Xbox fans are obviously very happy to finally help defend Super Earth, Halo fans are going nuts over a possible crossover tease at the end of the trailer. The short scene features a single drop pod landing in an urban setting, but with rain and a moody soundtrack not unlike some scenes from Halo 3: ODST. And with the game coming to Halo's home console, it makes sense that developer Arrowhead would celebrate by collaborating with one of Helldivers' biggest inspirations. In other news, gamescom Opening Night Live is this coming Tuesday, and host Geoff Keighley is already teasing an exclusive look at Resident Evil: Requiem. And we take a look at one of Borderlands 4's vault hunters, Rafa the exo soldier.Presented by Borderlands 4.…
In today's Daily Fix:Fortnite's new season features plenty of the usual cross-IP cameos (like the Power Rangers), but also new enemies in the form of giant bugs. Sound familiar? Developer Arrowhead thinks so. Calling the new Fortnite mode, "Helldivers at home," Arrowhead also tossed some praise toward the ever-popular battle royale, recognizing it as the 'king of video game drip.' In other news, McDonald's in Japan recently ran a promotional offer for free limited edition Pokémon cards with the purchase of select McDonald's meals. The offer quickly got out of hand as countless food items went uneaten as fans and scalpers bought meals just to get the cards, and discarded the food itself. After running out of cards in about a day, McDonald's Japan cut the promo short and apologized to those who never even had a chance to get one of the cards. And learn all about Borderlands 4's newest vault hunter: Vex the Siren.Presented by Borderlands 4.…
In today's Daily Fix:In light of Sony's lawsuit, megapublisher Tencent has changed some of the assets on the Steam page for Light of Motiram. The game fell into Sony's crosshairs for looking a lot like their Horizon Zero Dawn games, and judging by some of those marketing assets, Sony might have a case. Tencent has changed the description and some of the art featuring a female protagonist that looks an awful lot like Horizon's Aloy, as well as easing up on mentions of giant mechanical beasts. In other news, Bethesda's Starfield may finally be giving fans what they want: the ability to fly between planets. Although not officially announced, the new 'feature' won't be exactly like No Man's Sky's key feature of letting you take off from a planet's surface, fly into space, through the atmosphere of another planet, and onto that surface without an obvious loading screen. Starfield is getting a PS5 port sometime next year, and could see some new feaures added, like the aforementioned 'flying between planets' ability. And finally, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick is promsing BioShock 4 will come out, despite recent news that the game had failed an internal review after years of development.…
In today's Daily Fix:Another game has fallen victim to Microsoft's cost-saving measures. Avalanche's Contraband, which the public hasn't seen anything of, depsite being announced with a teaser trailer back in 2021, has been put on hold, and judging by Xbox's recent track record with in-development games, it doesn't look good. Contraband was supposed to be an open-world co-op game from the developers of Just Cause, but aside from the aforementioned teaser, we saw nothing of it. The game has joined the likes of Perfect Dark and Everwild as long-in-development Xbox titles that will now no longer see the light of day. In Sony news, the PS5 has just shipped 80 million units worldwide, and is on track to overtake the PS3 in overall sales. But it has a long way to go to catch longtime sales leader, the PlayStation 2, with more 160 million units sold (not just shipped). And speaking of Sony, the company is admitting that their live-service plans haven't gone according to plan, after the failures of Concord and now Marathon's most recent delay.…
In today's Daily Fix:The Battlefield 6 open beta isn't even live yet, and there's already 30,000+ players waiting in the queue. The beta goes live for this weekend and next, but early access to those with codes begins tomorrow. And early access or not, expect some long wait times if you're trying to get in. In Nintendo news, the creator of Pokémon and the former CEO of The Pokémon Company confirmed that Nintendo of America had some notes on Pikachu's original design. Before the game made its way to the U.S., Nintendo of America reportedly wanted to add "large breasts" to everyone's favorite electric mouse, and also wanted to toughen up some of the other pokémon, to make them less cute. Thankfully, those notes were ignored. And finally, Genshin Impact is being delisted on PS4 next month, and will be shutdown for that console next year. Don't worry, PS5 players will not be affected.…

In today's Daily Fix:Hollow Knight fans have been left disappointed time and again over the past few years. Only fairly recently did we get a teaser trailer, and even though though developer Team Cherry is sticking to a 2025 release, we still don't have an actual date. But fans may have reason to hope, as Nintendo has announced an Indie World Showcase for Thursday, August 7th at 6am PT. This will be yet another opportunity for Team Cherry to finally announce a release date, which would pair well with the game being playable at Xbox's gamescom booth later this month. Speaking of Xbox, August's Game Pass Wave 1 lineup has been revealed, and Assassin's Creed Mirage leads the way, along with Rain World, Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector, and more. And finally, Battlefield 6's producer recognizes that 2042 was missing the 'excellence' of predecessor Bad Company 2. Hopefully that means good things for Battlefield 6.…

In today's Daily Fix:BioShock 4 has been a long time coming, and it might be even longer. The game has reportedly failed an internal review at publisher 2K, prompting a leadership shake-up at developer Cloud Chamber Games. A rumored remake of the original BioShock has also reportedly been canceled. Over at Larian Studios, the developer is celebrating the second anniversary of Baldur's Gate 3, and is teasing their next project, which is not DnD related. And finally, Nintendo is re-committing to the 2025 release window for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. The game will be playable at this year's Fan Expo in Canada.…

In today's Daily Fix:Nintendo is raising the price of the Switch 1 for the first time since its release back in 2017. All models of the Switch 1, including the OLED and Lite models, will go up in price from around $30-$50. Switch 1 accessories like extra Joy-Con and the Alarmo clock are also going up in price. Select Switch 2 accessories will also see a hike, but the Switch 2 system and games so far are holding steady. In related news, Nintendo's latest financial report shows a promising start to the Switch 2, selling around 6 million units worldwide since launch. Nintendo's goal of 15 million Switch 2's sold by the end of March 2026 looks to be in sight. And if you own a Switch 2, but were hoping for a port of Battlefield 6, you might be waiting a long time. Battlefield boss Vince Zampella has said in an interview that there's currently no plans to release the upcoming shooter on Switch 2.…

In today's Daily Fix:Looks like there's still some bad blood between gaming auteur Hideo Kojima and his former employers at Konami. In an interview with Ssense, Kojima was asked if he was going to play the upcoming remake of his Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, titled Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater. He replied, "No." Kojima and Konami had a falling out during the development of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which saw the famed developer leave to form his own studio, which has released two Death Stranding games. In other news, Hollow Knight still does not have an official release date, despite a Nintendo Partner Direct happening, which would have been a good opportunity to make the announcement. And finally, in the same Direct, a new Octopath Traveler was announced for all current-gen consoles.…

In today's Daily Fix:Sony is suing Tencent over the game Light of Motiram, which Sony claims is a rip-off of their Horizon franchise. Judging by the trailers only, it's not hard to see why Sony is taking Tencent to court—the two games feature a red-haired female protagonist in similar outfits, a post-apocalyptic world inhabited by robot animals, and even similar font and key art. In other Sony news, August's PS Plus games have been revealed, with Lies of P headlining the offerings. And finally, Mario Paint is back on a Nintendo console. Nintendo dropped the game on the Nintendo Switch Online service, and yes the Switch 2 version takes advantage of the new Joy-con's mouse controls. Switch 1 owners can still play, provided they plug in a compatible USB mouse.…

In today's Daily Fix:The messy legal saga between South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker, and South Park rights holders at Paramount may be coming to an end. The show had been stuck in a sort of streaming limbo when rights to the show expired at HBO Max, but have not yet been picked up anywhere else. Paramount+ was the most logical place, but the impending merger between Paramount and Skydance put a hold on a lot of new dealmaking. With only a handful of episodes and on-off specials airing over the past two years, fans have been clamoring for a full new season, and now that Stone and Parker have signed a $1.5 billion deal, the fans will be getting what they want. In today's Daily Fix:Superman is still flying high at the global box office, but its international numbers seem softer than expected. Despite pulling in $400 million so far, the film is underperforming outside of the U.S., and director James Gunn thinks part of it is lack of brand awareness, and real-world political strife. According to Gunn, Superman is just not as recognizable in some parts of the world as, say, Batman. And geopolitical events in certain global hotspots have raised anti-American sentiment, which could be hurting box office numbers. Still, the movie the number one film in the world going on two weeks, and has received near-universal praise from critics and fans. Interestingly, this is a younger version of Pauline than we've seen in 2017's Super Mario Odyssey (where she sang her now-famous "Jump Up, Superstar" as Mayor of New Donk City), or even her first appearance in the original Donkey Kong back in 1981. So does that make Bananza a prequel? Other details dropped in the Direct include returning Donkey Kong Country characters, DK's new powers, and more. In other news, Bungie's Marathon has been delayed again, this time to an unspecified date. Bungie is taking feedback from April's test to heart, while publisher Sony is eager to not make the same mistakes Concord did, which died a quick death within two weeks of its launch. And finally, Civil War director and 28 Years Later writer Alex Garland is on his seventh playthrough of FromSoftware's Elden Ring. Speaking with IGN, the filmmaker had some tips to share for the game, but unfortunately no updates on the A24-produced live-action movie he's making.…

On today's Daily Fix:It's an all-DC movies day, as the Snyderverse subreddit responds to a fan campaign to review bomb the new Superman movie. Many DCEU fans are still feeling burnt by Warner Bros. hitting reset on their DC movies slate with James Gunn co-shepherding the new DC movie universe. A reddit user on the Snyderverse subreddit posted a 'call to arms' for Snyderverse fans to review bomb Gunn's Superman, and post spoilers of the movie all over the internet. James Gunn has brushed off the 'threat' and the Snyderverse subreddit mods subsequently removed the post and issued an apology. In related news, Superman is not James Gunn's only DC problem, as the filmmaker recognizes that Batman is not only WB's biggest DC property, but potentially the most problematic, with at least two versions of Batman in two separate movie universes hitting theaters around the same time. And finally, the standalone horror film, 'Clayface,' based on the DC Comics character, has found its star.…

In today's Daily Fix:CD Projekt wowed the internet after a Witcher 4 demo running on a base PS5 was showcased at an Unreal Engine 5 event. The've has since confirmed it's taking a "console-first" approach to the game, and though it may upset PC gamers, dev team CD Projekt RED has good reason. Cyberpunk 2077 was developed with high-end PCs in mind, and then scaled down for last-gen consoles PS4 and Xbox One. Cyberpunk 2077's launch on those platforms was a trainwreck, to say the least, and somethng CDPR wants to avoid for The Witcher 4. In other news, Borderlands 4's standard edition will not make the price jump to $80, instead launching at $70—likely in response to the absolute beating Gearbox's Randy Pitchford took online after his comments on a possible price hike for the game. And finally, Nintendo's Switch 2 is a hit, but a few Pokémon fans aren't having a great time after transferring—and losing—decades of Pokémon saved game progress.…

Trading cards—Pokémon specifically—are a huge market for collectors, but scalpers often prevent most fans from purchasing cards at retail prices. Maybe GameStop can find a way to prevent scalpers from buying up huge stocks of inventory.
