Episode 15 welcomes photographer & musician, Steve Davis. We love our Maquon, Illinois natives, but Steve has called Galesburg home for many a decade. A St. Louis Cardinals fan whose favorite stadium is Wrigley Field. He probably helped service your Apple & snapped a photo of your kid in the parade then pulled on his headband, got behind the keys and along with his musical pals, made your Friday & Saturday nights epic. He's truly been involved in huge musical movements in Galesburg over the past 4 decades either directly or indirectly. Dark Crystal , Thrillsville , & Neon Nova to name a few. And who could forget Linen Lion ? From days on the couch soaking up the hair metal/new wave musical prowess from MTV or discovering synth sounds at Gamble Music to sneaking a really big camera into Farm-Aid '85, the stories of rock n roll & photographs are endless. We are so blessed to be able to see & hear the art of Steve Davis. They say never meet your heroes but when Terry Hodges asked his to throw him a drum stick as he waited patiently at the edge of the stage during Quiet Riot's set, it happened. Frankie Banali gave Terry a drum stick and was forever solidified the drumming hero in Terry's life. Starting with 5 gallon buckets in the barn to stuffing his kit in the Trans Am and 30 plus years later in one of the area's most dynamic bands, Neon Nova. And for some reason this drummer showed up with a Bullethead, cigar box guitar. At 33:32 in the podcast, Terry shows why he brought it. It's been quite an adventure so far for Terry, from stealing pizza from Firehouse , chicken alfredo with Lita Ford , meeting smelly Tommy Lee or playing live at the Mark Of The Quad Cities with his one time juggernaut band, Drophammer. The adventure continues. Thanks for listening to episode 14 with our friend, Terry Hodges. CHECK OUT TERRY'S BAND DATES AND MORE... https://www.facebook.com/NEONNOVABAND…
This is the episode that almost wasn't. We invited singer songwriter Chris Carr to the podcast before but for whatever reason it didn't work out. So he finally comes to record our first episode in 13 months & it's riddled with crazy out of our control tech issues, & we almost scrapped it. Thanks to the magic of our studio proprietor, we got most of the episode back & we hope you love it in all it's messy glory. Thanks Billy. Chris Carr has been making music for over 30 years now, The 90's was Pods Pinion, garnering a trip to NYC based on a demo. Crash & The Witness & Ghost Town Choir were amazing projects born in the 21 st century & now along with the uber talented Eric Christian & Adam Stuart a new project called, Statues Of Ash. Skip to 45:38 to hear the single, Wait Your Turn & 58:48 to hear the single King Wins Again . Listen and then raise hell for this Maple City trio to play live. We get two songs in their infancy performed live in this episode from Chris. I'd like to apologize again to Chris for talking over the end of that song, the caffeine ran strong through this episode. Chris wrote one song on a napkin on the ride over. We salvaged the good parts from an episode that died twice. Ted, Billy & I are happy to welcome one of my favorite people on the planet, Chris Carr for episode 13. credits: all music by Chris Carr & Statues Of Ash also featuring the music of Ghost Town Choir & Crash & The Witness FIND MORE ON THE BAND... https://music.apple.com/us/artist/statues-of-ash/1762132662 https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDEZzwJJQf9-MfChj8HNSsQ…
Erin Glasnovich performs under the name Sullivan’s Daughter, a nod to her mother maiden name & her middle name. On the stage since 7, performing is what Erin was born to do. Erin recently came to a life fork in the road, stopped, looked around and ran right back into the arts, using her greatest instrument, her voice. She sang her 1st single Honey Lips for us and gave us a little holiday gift too. Now, we hope you enjoy Erin’s voice too on episode 12 of A Little Off Track. Episode 11 brings us musician and music teacher, Brad Shryack. Brad used to call the local rock station and request guitar god rock instrumentals that rarely got played, like Steve Vai or Joe Satriani. This only proved he had great taste in music and it turns out he was a pretty talented six string shredder himself. Brad's been in bands, played big stages and practices like a mad man - which he passes on to young and old musicians learning guitar, as a teacher at the legendary Music Makers in Galesburg. We are proud to have Brad strum those strings on episode 11 of… A Little Off Track. 1972, Mick Jagger on the cover of Life magazine when Kent was 13. 1973, the access the photographers had to the cars at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The Stones never called, but the access was earned. Photographer Kent Kriegshauser is one of the best ever and has some great stories behind the shots. From Pittsfield & Chicago to the Beatles and the Who, he's seen a few things and taken some great shots along the way. We wouldn't want anyone else for episode 10 then the coolest and the sweetest, Kent Kriegshauser. https://www.kentkriegshauser.com https://www.instagram.com/kentkriegshauserphotography…
Lily Blouin lives to perform & mentor and sail and go to New York to see Jeff Daniels and then not see Jeff Daniels! She's inspiring and brave and human and a pirate all at the same time. And if your ears stick around until the end, you'll hear her sing too. My friend, we hope you enjoy the lovely Lily Blouin on episode 9 of A Little Off Track.…
Tim Holmes finally came all the way down to the A Little Off Track studios to talk like a snobby actor and deflect our questions like a spoiled director, exactly what we were hoping. Anything performed from a stage without a net, ensemble or solo, drama, comedy or musical is so damned impressive and inspiring to those who don't do it everyday or ever! We love to be entertained and Tim knows a show or two about a show or two. It's 92 minutes of special friendships and folly, with one of the greatest to ever do it. *** *** paid slogan by Mr Holmes places https://www.facebook.com/PAAGalesburg https://www.facebook.com/GalesburgOrpheum…
Seth’s upbringing becomes pretty clear when you hear his music. Whether it’s grandpa, his favorite girl or the famous bridge he grew up next to, his lyrics hit close to home right away. He’s a father, a fiddle player, an educator and an occasional online better, and part of a few great musical projects in the area, Frank F. Sidney's Western Bandit Volunteers & Harvest Sons . And an occasional appearance in the Rhinestoners. Enjoy the wild accusations & high speculation of a Sunday afternoon on Cherry Street with the musical musings of our friend Seth Cocquit , on this episode of A Little Off Track. Multi talented artists Kyle & Auty Rohweder join us this time around to go, A Little Off Track. You might have swapped a story and got a buzz under the roof of Kyle's barber shop, Glory Days, on Cherry Street in Galesburg. And you might have seen Auty dance, act or been delighted by her barista & bass skills. These are just a few of the bonifides of these siblings who have great stories, a great band and a bond we all hope to have with our brothers & sisters. And if you love their band, the Goodbye Race , then this is the episode for you.…
Jera cancelled on us twice so we thought, do we smell, does she hate us, what'd we do wrong?? Actually she had a family emergency and then lost her voice. The instrument that along with her trusty guitar she's been hauling around and entertaining crowds with for over 45 years. We get a nice snapshot of those times along with a few secrets & 3 great songs played live. There's plenty of ways to see Jera live. Jera & The Absolutes play the region quite a bit & you might stumble upon a winery or local pub and find Carol Jean & Jera having a time. Enjoy episode 5 with our friend Jera. Cow & Erin Glasnovich are the Dance Hall Doves and our friends, so they agreed to play & sing and be jovial about the art & life they love on our little podcast. Cow has been playing in area bands for well over 20 years & Erin Glasnovich has grown up on the stage acting & singing as well. We made it to episode II & we couldn't have been more blessed to have artist Dusty Scott on the show. The 3 of us knew Dusty's work before we knew him and you can't help but know his artwork cause its displayed inside & out & all over west central Illinois, in over 27 states throughout the country and he has work hanging south of the border too. In this episode you'll hear about his passion, hear about his work ethic and hear about his process but you gotta see the work of Dusty Scott and then you'll probably want your own Dusty Scott original. Dig his work now at dustyscottart.com…
Well, it's show #1. We had fun like we knew we would with our friend Joe Stamm and we’re glad you came along for the ride. Our goal every show is to hang out with an artist in this room above Cherry Street, and let them do their thing, and share with all of us the art they love the most. Besides all the joyous conversation, Joe shared 3 new stellar songs, revealed he pays for great quotes & how he loves the Pittsburgh Steelers way too much. The Joe Stamm band will be at festivals all spring & summer and warming the cockles of your heart on many a stage the rest of the winter. His new album 'Wildman' arrives in August on all platforms and especially wonderful, on vinyl. Thanks to William Colvin for the Mastering from Laidback Manor in Galesburg. He's my favorite Pro Tool. And Josh Dixon, our logos rock! Get yours at joshuadixonart.com Thanks to Ted for the tedious techy stuff, we love how you're wired. And to Mandy, we’re so lucky to have your voice & humor & presence.
