As a church, we are all about following Jesus and know there’s no end to that journey—we’re more about becoming than arriving. We are committed to becoming a multi-generational, multi-ethnic, multiplying movement of Christ followers, equipping and empowering our kids and students to not only be the church of tomorrow, but the church of today.

Since beginning the Tangent a couple years ago, Fr. Sam and I have had the opportunity to interview some amazing guests. One of those guests, who was kind enough to return to the show, is Stephanie Gray Connors. Stephanie Gray Connors is a prolific pro-life speaker. She’s debated against abortion for decades and is now the author of two books in Word on Fire’s Dignity Series - “On Assisted Suicide” and “On IVF”. I (Matt) invited Stephanie to join the Tangent again to discuss the latter of the two volumes from the Dignity Series because while I knew the Catholic Church’s teaching on IVF, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to explain why the Church teaches what She does. In today’s episode, we not only define IVF, we discuss why the Church takes such a strong stance against it, how this protects the dignity of human life, and tackle important questions like, “what about those who were born via this process?”. GREATER SUMMARY Matthew Petrusek discusses his transition from academia to the @word-on-fire exploring the intersections of theology, ideology, and education. He emphasizes the importance of true philosophy and logic in understanding and responding to contemporary ideologies, particularly in the context of Catholic education. The discussion also delves into the nature of skepticism, the laws of logic, and the challenges posed by conflicting ideologies in today's culture. In this conversation, Matthew Petrusek also discusses how politics has filled the void left by religion, leading to a rise in various ideologies that often act as modern forms of idolatry. Petrusek identifies key idols such as pleasure, tribalism, and ourselves, and examines the relationship between ideologies like classical liberalism and wokeism. We also use transgenderism as a case study to illustrate the logical incoherence and the consequences of contemporary ideologies. In this conversation, Matt and Fr. Sam delve into the profound mystery of the Eucharist, exploring its significance as the sacrament of Christ's presence. They emphasize the importance of receiving (as opposed to "taking") the Eucharist and the other Sacraments. They also connect the Eucharist to the sacrament of marriage, highlighting the theme of self-gift. Additionally, they address the historical context of belief in the real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist, discuss how the Eucharist is Christ's Resurrected Body (but is a re-presentation of the Cross), and dive into the idea of an "Open Table" (Something common to Protestantism but rejected by Catholics). They also discuss how the priesthood of the New Covenant is different than that of the Old Covenant, how Jesus is a Priest in the Order of Melchizedek, what the types of the Eucharist are in the Old Testament, and the necessity of the Eucharist for spiritual growth and salvation (cf. John 6). SIGN UP FOR OUR EMAIL LIST @ https://www.veritascatholic.com/…
