The Nostalgia Pit is a podcast aiming to dissect pop culture, the subconscious, and other psychological phenomena through a hyperbolic and prismatic lens. Hosted by Rob Snow and Colin Casserd, the Nostalgia Pit is available anywhere you find your podcasts. Nostalgia is so often thought of as something great from our childhood... But this psychological pitfall can sometimes have massive effects on our decision making. Our goal here is to discuss these areas where morals and ethics blur and the warm feelings of childhood take over. Oh, and to talk some shit... Produced by Colin Casserd Engineered by Alex Riddle (Season 2)

I’ve heard it said before that the journey is the destination…In this case I think we can affirm this as true. Debuting a new segment today, folks, It’s Probin’ Time!! On this cat-scratch fever dream of an episode, we dive into the 1981 film Roar. Produced and directed by Noel Marshall, who also starred in the film, alongside Tippy Hedron and Melanie Griffith. This gaping maw of content is stuffed with everything from the original story of Pinnochio, to soup lozenges, to coping mechanisms. And if you enjoy what we are doing here at the Pit and would like to support us further, please check us out our patreon, where we have exclusive extended episodes! They drop a day early with an extra thirty minutes or more for every episode! Today, we talk about what drug culture looked like in ancient Rome & Greece! Fascinating, to say the least… We also have some merch for sale up on our Etsy, as well as a limited run of embroidered beanies dropping very soon. Welcome to a very special edition of Rob’s Reviews here on the Nostalgia Pit. Today we welcome in a special soul, the lovely Celina Flores to talk about the new Robert Eggers directed Nosferatu in all of its macabre splendor. But of course, that is not all! We also discuss the checkered past of Disney and its history of questionable imagery and language, and innuendo throughout its catalog. Everything from Fantasia and Pinnochio to the Lion King and Little Mermaid… It’s all here, and it’s all filthy! And if you enjoy what we are doing here at the Pit and would like to support us further, please check us out our patreon, where we have exclusive extended episodes! What do horse hoof bread, Taco Bell, and raw milk have in common? Well, besides all being food… These are all items you might be able to find in the continental breakfast at a very, very special hotel. This hotel, named after one of the fifty states in this great country,, has existed for millenia, but the public was only enlightened to its existence due to Don Henley and them boys. Them boys of course being The Eagles. No, it’s not Hotel Alabama. Although, I hear they have a killer beschamel… That’s right. We brought back Yikes Mountain & Drinks w/ Ron from the Half-Assed Podcast Network to help us spelunk the 1977 smash hit Hotel California. So, buckle up for this baby, cause she’s a little grumpy. And by grumpy, I mean bumpy... And by bumpy, I mean internally... And by internally, I mean intestinally… And if you enjoy what we are doing here at the Pit and would like to support us further, please check us out our patreon, where we have exclusive extended episodes! Return of the Rob! That’s right, folks. Rob. Is. Back! After an all too long hiatus, we welcome back the missing piece of this here pod. I’m sure y’all were wondering when that barrage of guests would finally cease… Now we can get on with the REAL conversations. We talk about everything from Rob’s new otamatone to the second Fyre Fest to the Land Before Time. Colin also digs into a cartoon that lives rent free in his head, none other than the ladykiller himself: Johnny Bravo. That’s right! It’s time for a brand new Limited Recall segment. Today, we welcome back some more repeat offenders to help stimulate the conversation. Spike Daeley & Chance Random from the recent Lines of Man-Dust episode amongst others, are here to dig into a question left unanswered during our last discussion. And that discussion, is of course, surrounding the retcon-ing of an artists’ career through the constantly changing lens of what society’s acceptable behaviors-of-the-day are. But that’s not all! We also talk the push for verbal exposition in film/TV, performance enhancing drugs, and the fallible nature of memory (to just name a few of the rotating focal points). Besides the conversation though, you will hear some songs throughout the episode. The first is Who’s This by Chance off his Breakfast EP. The second track is called Chessnuttz by White Licorice. The final track is Paint by The Pretty Killers tape …And Whatnot. All albums are available for free or donation on their bandcamps. Links in the description (below). I gotta say, I’m super excited about this one. Still without Rob, I brought in two repeat guests and fellow podcast producers Jeremy Tache from the Lebatard Show w/ Stugotz Podcast as well as Yeti Blanc, producer of the Greg Cote Show w/ Greg Cote Podcast! While we’ve had both of these folk onto the pod previously, never have we gotten them together! Yeti was our first ever guest, and one of the first people he recommended I try to get on the pod was none other than Jeremy Tache, so it only made perfect sense to do a party episode. While we talk many random topics from American Idol to syllabic structure in song writing, we decided to play a game! I’m calling it Connect the Tunes, but it’s essentially where three songs are played and you have to guess the connection between them. Sounds easy? Even if you think you know music, it can get difficult quickly! We also decided to a special edition of Song Spelunker segment… I decided to ignore the advice of Robert Downey Jr. in Tropic Thunder, cause we went full Lebatard. Because both our guests have produced songs for the Lebatard show, I decided to go with a song that would really tie the room together. So stay tuned til the end! Do we have a doozy for you today! I am here sans Rob & Kevin, but not alone. Joined by some old friends from my days of wanting to be a rapper, first we have Josh Dahlquist aka Beige or nowyoureshattered on socials. Stick-and-poke tattoo master based out of the Seattle area. Beige is the lead vocalist of the group Triceracorn with producer IG88 aka Branden Clarke, who is guest number 2 on today's episode. The Bran Man is a wonderful producer and video game sound designer who you may recognize from five previous episodes. Guest #3 is none other than the swarthy pen wielding producer, Chance Random aka Kaleb Gubernik. Besides making some of the most intentional music in the Pacific Northwest, Kaleb is an amazing author writing short stories on his social media that are a beautiful screenshot of moments often overlooked and under appreciated in our daily lives. Our final guest is the wonderful Spike Daely. Linguistic expert and world traveler, Spike has used his abundance of life experiences to create some of the most intricate lyrics I’ve ever heard. We’ve got a few songs for you throughout the episode from our wonderful guests, as well as some brand new products! So stay tuned til the end. You can find all the social media and music links to these gentleboiz' work in the episode description. And make sure you go back through the Nostalgia Pit of old, and listen to the close to 10 episodes that these dudes have previously helped contribute to. Much love and thanks to them. This week, we’re giving a warm send off to our spleen… The one and only Kevin Siplin is leaving the warm embrace of the Pit for a while, as life can and often does take precedence over hobbies. While after today, Kevin may not be with us on every episode, he will always be with us in spirit, as his charisma and charm made him a fan favorite from the jump. We certainly hope to see him back for some guest appearances throughout the year, but he won’t be disappearing! Make sure to give him a follow on all his social medias and help support the blossoming of a beautiful art career. So today, we spotlight the latest work is the aforementioned burgeoning profession, the newest MADSHROOM MC record entitled An African Werewolf in Brooklyn. This record is entirely produced by Wolftone, a Seattle based multiinstrumentalist who’s recently burst onto the scene with the collaborative album Permafrost Discoveries made with rapper AJ Suede. Wolf’s impeccable ability to create a cinematic sonic landscape for an emcee to guide you through is being noticed by many, including myself. We have four songs from the record we’ll be sharing with you throughout the episode. Talking about them as well as some of the inspirations and intentions behind the album. Limited edition cassettes are available at madshroommc.bandcamp.com. Link will be in the description if you want to support or you can stream the record on any platform you desire. No Rob or Kevin today… So in lieu of their absence, I decided to call in a few ringers to rotate in as my cohosts for the next few episodes. Today, we welcome two members of the Outsiders Social Club Podcast: Drinks w/ Ron and Yikes Mountain! Ron did his homework with this one, doing deep research onto the 1980 sketch comedy show called Fridays starring Larry David & Michael Richards amongst a plethora of other recognizable faces. We also discuss acapella groups, the downfall of Infowars, and method actors. If you like what Ron & Yikes bring to the table, you can hear more of them and their malarkey on the Half-Assed Podcast Network, which hosts such pods as the Outsiders Social Club and Tubi Determined podcasts amidst many more of Ron’s brainbabies. And make sure you stick around til the end of the episode, where you’ll hear the song Train of Thought of the new album An African Werewolf in Brooklyn by Wolftone and our very own MADSHROOM MC. Available on limited edition cassette now! Link in the description. Just like your local produce aisle, this episode is FRESH. We welcome in Toronto super-producer for his third appearance on the Pit, none other than the legendary Fresh Kils. We talk everything from vanity to success to having a fan make you a musical love letter over your own music. We also talk failed podcasts, the cognitive dissonance required by our way of life, to the up and coming Ockham’s Blazer 2 (release date TBD). And make sure you stay tuned til the end of the episode where you will hear Make it Right off of his most recent record Disclaimer. Link to the song and album in the description. Howdy there, folks! Been too long... One could even say… It’s been a while. But regardless! We’re here in the middle of our hiatus, and I just couldn’t get myself to stay away from y'all for too long! I had to go back into the vault and edit what has been gathering dust for a presentation to y’all. As is implied with this return to the vault, some of the subject matter may feel a tad dated. We even debated its relevance to now, but ultimately, I deemed it a worthy listen. So here we are: Rob and I, talking about life’s repeated curveballs and what it means to get a whiff of old Uncle Charlie. Besides us trying to mentally grapple with the attempted assassination attempt of a presidential candidate, we also discuss Tenacious D (obviously), Rob’s dislike of kaiju movies, and breast feeding videos on instagram. Welcome in for part two of our celentennial celebration! We return with more mailbag questions and more generalized malarkey. We dig into everything from our favorite memories on the pod to what our cult would look like if we were to start one to what kind of matching tattoos we would get. We also talk Darth Maul, Earth Wind & Fire, as well as the concept of hard cuddling. We also answer quite possibly the most important question ever asked by anyone ever… And that of course is: which Sex & the City gal do you most indentify with?! All apologies on the delay of the episode release... Real life happened to all four of us, so there will be some changes to the Pit in the future, but regular episodes will come back in January 2025. Til then, we'll have some content trickle in. Love y'all. Welcome everyone to our very own, first and only, 100th episode celebration!! We were having such a great time answering mailbag questions from our listeners, that we accidentally went long! And you should know by now, that with episodes sometimes leaning past two hours, we had to cut this session in two. But do not fret! The topics are abundant. The ADHD is fluid… We talk everything from Rob rewatching the X-Files, to hot cheetos, to living on another planet, to what our wrestling personas would be. We also make a mixtape of our life, talk nostalgic media (obviously), and who we would resurrect to have on the pod. Big shoutout to all of our listeners and folk who sent in questions! We got over 100 at the end of the day. Needless to say, we could not ask all of them, but we did log them all down for future use. Thank y’all so much for sticking with us for over 300 hours of content!!! Welcome on in to the last of the double digits… We’re having a party for episode #99 of the Pit! The kinda party where Tone Loc is hanging with Fox Mulder, Macaulay Culkin, and Spuds McKenzie… Who knows what will be the thread to tie them all together… Besides doing a Song Spelunker on the 1989 hit single Funky Cold Medina, we also listen to the wisdom of the lion’s mane… Confused? You won’t be for long. Wrap the three of us in plot armor and huck us down Mt. Everest, cause it’s time to roll! This one here? It’s for the turtle lovers out there… The ones who may or may not have tried to crawl into sewers wondering if there would be pizza and or ninjas waiting in the depths… Or maybe just those susceptible to cartoonish fantasies that our impressionable young minds latched onto… …and now we’re in our late thirties daydreaming about pepperoni and James Cagney impressions… Needless to say, we’re taking mutants on this one. As a first of its kind, we watched the 1990 classic big screen debut of the boys in green, and that watch-a-long is available right now on our patreon! Yes! Bonus content! But even if you don’t have our patreon, you will love this episode. Our special guest Joe Vegas of the Outsiders Social Club remembers vividly watching this in theaters. He’s got some takes!
