This week we have a great time laughing and chatting with Kennedy Garman, who is a junior at La Quinta High School in La Quinta, CA, and also Jen and Ryan's niece. She is the President of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) at La Quinta High which is a club serving nearly 300 students each week. Like millions of students around the country have experienced, Kennedy's school was cancelled for the rest of the year due to coronavirus concerns. When that happened she was immediately forced to go from being a busy student leader to sitting in on zoom calls in order to stay in touch with teachers and friends, and the isolation has not been an easy transition for her. This episode features an intimate conversation with a legend in the jazz percussion world, Carl Rigoli. Carl started his musical career as a vibraphonist in New York playing with Aretha Franklin, Phyllis Diller and many more. Eventually settling in LA he became an in demand session player for TV and film. Playing on such classic shows as Mork and Mindy, Bosom Buddies, Laverne and Shirley, etc and performing with Jerry Goldsmith and John Williams on a number of films. In his 50's, after a long career in music, Carl made the decision to pivot into a new career as a high school counselor. After doing that for a number of years in LA he eventually retired from education and made his way to the Coachella Valley settling in the Sun City Shadow Hills community in North Indio. These days Carl is still active as a composer and performer, teaching music at the College of the Desert, and has recently begun developing his craft as a storyteller and writer.
