Many of us are entering the new year with a similar goal — to build community and connect more with others. To kick off season five, Priya Parker shares ideas on how to be the host with the most. An expert on building connection, Priya is the author of “The Art of Gathering: How We Meet and Why It Matters.” Whether it's a book club, wedding, birthday or niche-and-obscurely themed party, Priya and Chris talk about how to create meaningful and fun experiences for all of your guests — including yourself. The Voice FM's Laura James talks to our CEO Ruth Marriott about the need for adopters in North Devon to come forward. She explains the need for adopters for sibling groups, children with complex health needs, older children and BAME children and why they wait the longest.
‘It’s all about rapport, relationship’ (Peer Link Mentor) Families for Children Peer Link programme provides a supportive peer mentoring service to adopters with the aim of developing confidence and skills and awareness of the needs of their children. The wider benefits include linking into local networks of support, thereby sustaining placements and improving outcomes for children and alleviating the need for crisis intervention at a later date. It also provides the Peer Link Mentor with an opportunity for engagement and development including training and references. Recipients of the service can be pre-placement adopters, adopters in early placement, or adopters with a placement requiring some additional support. Listen here to one of our Peer Link mentors talk about the benefits of the service.…

Hello and welcome to the very first Families for Children Podcast. In this series of podcasts we are hoping to look at various aspects of adoption to give you a good insight into what adoption is all about. In the first 6 episodes we will aim to introduce listeners to the various stages of adoption, and these will be a good introduction to those newly considering whether adoption is right for you. All the episodes feature interviews with a range of adopters, adoptees and experienced adoption workers - so you will be hearing from people who have had direct experience of adoption and what it has meant to them. If you are already an adopter, you might find Episode 6 of particular interest as it is about Adoption Support – and gives a broad overview of the types of therapeutic adoption support adopters can access if required. We really hope you find these podcast episodes interesting – and useful. Please do not hesitate to contact us direct and let us know what you think – details on how to communicate to us will be at the end of each episode. So in Episode 1 we start with the most important people of all in adoption – the children. For more information about Families for Children visit www.familiesforchildren.org.uk…
