This week, we consider what great things He has done for our souls. We are also briefly introduced to "Prayer and the Bible" by Donald S Whitney In our Free Range Prayer Concert, there is a celebration of gratitude for what God has wrought in our lives. We meditate on: Ephesians 1:7-12 & 15-16 "In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace, 8 which He lavished upon us. In all wisdom and insight 9 He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him 10 with a view to an administration suitable to the fulness of the times, that is, the summing up of all things in Christ, things in the heavens and things upon the earth. In Him 11 also we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to His purpose who works all things after the counsel of His will, 12 to the end that we who were the first to hope in Christ should be to the praise of His glory." 15 "For this reason I too, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which exists among you, and your love for all the saints, 16 do not cease giving thanks for you, while making mention of you in my prayers;" Prayer, let Thy people meditate on Thy wonders, and make us each one contemplate what profound gratefulness Thou stirs up in our souls through Thy will. So What? What exorbitant blessings we have! Redemption and forgiveness. Rich grace from God. Knowledge of the mystery of His will. The gift of our inheritance We are predestined to see Him just as He is. "Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we shall be. We know that, when He appears, we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him just as He is." 1 John 3:2 So What? For me, the passage crescendos into prayer and thanksgiving for one another. "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." In the olden days, driving out to the Boise National Forest, and coming home from the same, God talked to me first. It was a hard truth that I had no comprehension of until I unexpectedly found myself in church. God spoke through a billboard containing His word. "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 6:23 God often speaks to us with a hard statement. Romans 6:23 is one of those. For the woman at the well, the hard conversation began with "Give me a drink." The astonishing part was not a command from a strange man, "give me a drink", but that a Jew was talking to a Samaritan, We are dumbfounded to hear from God, not just difficult truths, but that the Holy God of the universe stoops down to converse with His fallen creatures. "When I consider Thy heavens, the work of Thy fingers, The moon and the stars, which Thou hast ordained; 4 What is man, that Thou dost take thought of him? And the son of man, that Thou dost care for him?" Psalm 8:3-4 Our So What? Viva la our astonishing conversations. For with out those troublesome statements, we would never know we need and have been given a Savior for our souls. "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." e introduced our Concert of Prayer content blog. In our Worship focus today, we look at God's Wisdom, Immutability, and Compassion. Wisdom: "But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption, 31 that, just as it is written, "LET HIM WHO BOASTS, BOAST IN THE LORD." 1 Corinthians 1:30-31 And 2 Corinthians 2:6-16 Immutability: Hebrews 1:10-12 "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, yes and forever…" Hebrews 13:8-14 Compassion: Isaiah 54:10 "For the mountains may be removed and the hills may shake, But My lovingkindness will not be removed from you, And My covenant of peace will not be shaken," Says the LORD who has compassion on you. Psalm 103:4, Psalm 103:8 Psalm 103:13-14 "Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him. 14 For He Himself knows our frame; He is mindful that we are but dust." Our So What? Meditate on our majestic Creator, Savior, and Sustainer, who is wise, immutable, and compassionate. " What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." Our joy and satisfaction come from talking about prayer. Today, we turn our hearts to focus on the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. The context is again, "Success is never final; failure is never fatal, it is courage, born of faith that counts." ( a slight modification of the Churchill quote.) Our implied example, as we pray for revival in Puerto Rico, is the growth of the church. God's work is not done until every tribe and tongue knows the invitation of salvation. Our express example is the Apostle Paul. In Philippi, Paul, far from the travel, persecution, and beatings of his life, could have kicked back and rested, rejoicing in the spread of the gospel. Yet, he exhorts us to follow his example.: "Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, have this attitude; and if in anything you have a different attitude, God will reveal that also to you; 16 however, let us keep living by that same standard to which we have attained." Philippians 3:13-16 Our So What? We can know what God has wrought for us and through us, but while we are alive, we press on until we see our Savior face to face. We are praying for revival to begin in Albania. In this example of Jesus' conversations and how we can apply them to prayer, we return to Jesus and Nicodemus. He comes in the night with a nagging question, that he doesn't even ask: How can I be right with God? We saw last time, Jesus knows truly what is on his heart, and blows His mind by saying: "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." John 3:3 After adding an illustration of the wind, Nicodemus cries out, "How can these things be?" We see, however, from Ezekiel 11:19-20, 36:26-27, and Ezekiel 37, that the concept of needing to be born again should not have been foreign to "the teacher in Israel," but it was. Even Jeremiah wrote: "But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days," declares the LORD, "I will put My law within them, and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 34 "And they shall not teach again, each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,' for they shall all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them," declares the LORD, "for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more." Jeremiah 31:33-34 God does not shrink back from telling us the difficult truths of the gospel, even if we wrestle with them. Our So what? "In humility, difficult truths lead us to, Lord, God, Thou knowest, and I trust in Thee." Ezekiel in the valley of the dry bones. "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." Welcome, Bulgaria, and wow! What a trout fishing sensation you are! Thank you for joining the Free Range Preacher on Prayer podcast. Today, we are back to our gratitude in God, as He has revealed Himself. Today, we look again at the traumatic holiness (otherness) of God. As we stand ten feet from the sun, we look through a prism that filters out all but the moral perfection of God. "In the year of King Uzziah's death, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple. 2 Seraphim stood above Him, each having six wings; with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one called out to another and said, "Holy, Holy, Holy, is the LORD of hosts, The whole earth is full of His glory." 4 And the foundations of the thresholds trembled at the voice of him who called out, while the temple was filling with smoke." Isaiah 6:1-4 His moral perfection alone shatters our self-image and humbles us to the core. "Then I said, "Woe is me, for I am ruined! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I live among a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts." Isaiah 6:5 It's a beautiful humility and reverence. Do you imagine Isaiah, Moses, John in revelation, David, Paul, Peter, or any of the Biblical saints being sad after seeing God in His Holiness and being torn to pieces and then healed? Our so what? The beauty of God in His Holiness leads us to humility, which relieves our torn self-image and is beautiful to us. By definition, a life-changing beauty. Brethren, let's pray for one another. Welcome Iceland to the Free Range Preacher on Prayer podcast. We are glad to have you here, and I am blessed to say I have a dear friend who lived in your country for many memorable years of her life. Today, we are thankful for the Holiness of God. We liken Isaiah's experience in Isaiah 6, to standing 10 feet from the earth's sun and asking: "What do you believe you would notice first? Did you imagine the sun's immensity? Sheer size? How about the blinding light, the pull of gravity? What could keep you only 10 feet from the sun? Would you notice the solar winds, the heat, or the violent atomic fusion? Better still, which one of those would tear you to pieces first? Better stiller, our "So What?" What in the world is there to be thankful for, as Isaiah says? "Woe is me, for I am ruined! "O LORD, what is man, that Thou dost take knowledge of him? Or the son of man, that Thou dost think of him? 4 Man is like a mere breath; His days are like a passing shadow." Psalm 144:3-4 The immense, righteous, all-powerful, just God of the universe takes knowledge of us. Fleeting and as puny as we are, He thinks of us. Brethren, let's pray for one another. In examining the question, "What is Prayer?" We accidentally learn why we pray. Even though no Biblical person asks why we pray? Their lives reveal our anguished need for prayer. We are sinners. Until glory, we struggle with sin. Prayer is the act of faith that assures our soul. We are complex lonely beings, and prayer brings us into the arms of our heavenly Father, who knows us, holds us, and comforts us. Some of my favorite prayers: Hannah, 1 Samuel 1. Fathers calling out for their children, Mark 9, Matthew 9, Luke 7. A roofing job, Mark 2 Psalm 39, Psalm 42 The woman who touched Jesus' robe, Luke 8. Scriptures referenced: Luke 18:1 Proverbs 15:8 Psalm 42:1 2 Corinthians 5:17 & Ezekiel 11:19 John 17:3 (of course) Hebrews 11:1&6 Matthew 11:28-30 Romans 8:14-15 Romans 8:26-28 1 Corinthians 12:11-12 Hebrews 4:16, 7:25, 4:12-13 The TARDIS even makes an appearance as we learn: Psalm 62:8 Trust in Him at all times, O people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Category - Devotional Humanity, one and all, are a bruised reed and smoking flax. It is not until the pain makes us desperate for mercy outside ourselves that we will call out to the only name given among men, by which we must be saved! So writes Richard Sibbes: "The bruised reed is a man that for the most part is in some misery, as those were that came to Christ for help, and by misery he is brought to see sin as the cause of it, for, whatever pretenses sin makes, they come to an end when we are bruised and broken. He is sensible of sin and misery, even unto bruising; and, seeing no help in himself, is carried with restless desire to have supply from another, with some hope, which a little raises him out of himself to Christ, though he dare not claim any present interest of mercy. This spark of hope being opposed by doubtings and fears rising from corruption makes him as smoking flax; so that both these together, a bruised reed and smoking flax, make up the state of a poor distressed man." We pray with fear and trembling for our beloved and every soul we genuinely care about: "O Father, be as gentle as Thou canst, but as vexing as is necessary to bruise my beloved so they will seek Thee for what Thou alone has to offer, the spring of life in salvation." How can we pray our cherished ones be bruised and smoking? We know, from the gracious words of our Lord and Savior, who in our turn bruised us to seek His grace: "For whoever wishes to save his life shall lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel's shall save it. 36 "For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul? 37 "For what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Mark 8:35-37 Our So What? Despite the sorrows that perhaps lay ahead for our beloved, as the prince of preachers said: "If sinners be damned, at least let them leap to Hell over our dead bodies. And if they perish, let them perish with our arms wrapped about their knees, imploring them to stay. If Hell must be filled, let it be filled in the teeth of our exertions, and let not one go unwarned and unprayed for." "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." The words of Richard Baxter are earthy, moving, and convicting. He echoes the truth that we can begin to enjoy God's rest as we seek Him foremost. Baxter in "The Saints Everlasting Rest" brings us to tears, and He laments in the voice of God: "How must we offend our dear Lord when we give him cause to complain, as he did of our fellow idolaters: "My people have been lost sheep; they have forgotten their resting-place. My people can find rest in anything rather than in me. They can delight in one another, but not in me. They can rejoice in my creatures and ordinances, but not in me. Yea, in their very labors and duties they seek for rest, but not in me. They had rather be anywhere than be with me. Are these their gods? Have these redeemed them? Will these be better to them than I have been, or than I would be?" If you yourselves had a wife, a husband, a son, who had rather be any where than in your company, and was never so merry as when farthest from you, would you not take it ill? So our God must needs do." He then urges us: "O Christian, follow thy work, look to thy dangers, hold on to the end, win the field, and come off the ground before thou think of a settled rest." His words are sobering to my soul. "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." Greetings, Europe, and thank you for listening. Nicodemus comes by night to Jesus in John 3 with a troubling question. But he doesn't ask it. He says: "Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him." John 2:2 Jesus, however, goes straight to the point, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." John 3:3 Since we know: "Even before there is a word on my tongue, Behold, O LORD, Thou dost know it all." Psalm 139:4 And "For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do. Hebrews 4:12-13 Our So What? Our Savior calls us to honest, sincere communion with Him. We have no need to hide our deepest desires; after all, He already knows them. With the insight of a life lived for the spread of the gospel, Paul describes earthly life in this way: Life is full of afflictions, crushed, perplexed, persecuted, struck down, and frustrated. Other inescapable burdens are immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like that. How then can the man who accurately details the sorrows and burdens of all God's redeemed also say: Rejoice always; 17 pray without ceasing; 18 in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 and Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! Philippians 4:4. Our So What? "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7 The art of prayer leads to overcoming all that discourages us in His presence and power. Treasured ones of God, cultivate your prayer life to His glory and your soul's satisfaction, even in this fallen world. Amen Brethren, let us pray for one another to overcome the weakness of the flesh through prayer. "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." We are wrapping up, or beginning to, our signature episode; in this installment, we start with David's description in Psalm 22 of the crucifixion of Jesus. Beginning with the most historic moment, both great joy for us and agony for our Savior, "My God, my God, why hast Thou forsaken me?" Psalm 22:1a The spiritual separation of Jesus, his pain, and humiliation are also described in Psalm 22. What did Jesus do in anticipation of this excruciating pain? He sought the Father, gathered His friends, and prayed. "And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as Thou wilt." Matthew 26:39 We apply this in various and sundry ways: "The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak." However, it is key to note that we hear that phrase from our Savior in the context of prayer! Our So What? Our duty, glory, excellency, and abundant life flow directly from our communion with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Brethren, let us pray for one another to overcome the weakness of the flesh through prayer. "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." Morocco has beautiful landscapes and movie sets from around the world. My favorite is Casablanca, which stars Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. Thank you, everyone in Morocco, for listening. Our impossible need: To understand prayer, we need to understand being humanity. We cry before we are able to talk, but the reasons we cry and talk are the same. We are sinners. The natural state of our sons is selfishness and self-centeredness. We are complicated and bigger on the inside. We are built Biblically upside down. We look to what is best for us as an individual. The results: Estrangement from God, and isolation from one another. Our So What? We long to know others and be fully known by others, beginning with the God-shaped void in our souls. Our impossible solution, next time. Brethren, let's pray for one another. "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." The Apostle Paul was distressed, buffeted by Satan. Evidently, Paul's practice of buffeting his body was insufficient to keep him humble. Paul prayed three times for relief from the thorn in his flesh, and when the answer came back, (no) My grace is sufficient for you, Paul's response was: "And He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness." Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may dwell in me. 10 Therefore, I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ's sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong." 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 When God tells us no, there is a reason. All that He does in our lives, including answering our prayers, is to accomplish this one thing: "For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the first-born among many brethren;" "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. 29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the first-born among many brethren; 30 and whom He predestined, these He also called; and whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified." Romans 8:28-30 Conformity to Jesus comes through humility. Therefore, when He says no, our praise, adoration, and thanksgiving are just as enthusiastic as when we get what we pray for. We have seen the futility of trying to manipulate God from His will through the error of Balaam. We have also seen the glory of God as He answers the particular prayer of Abraham's servant in an eerily precise way. Today, we will see God answer our prayers even as they may be vague, but He knows our hearts and grants even those imprecise prayers, even as He answers our specific prayers as He knows the deepest desires of our hearts. To His glory, He knows what we need, and although He answers differently than we have prayed, our souls are satisfied as our desires are affirmed. God was not swayed from His determined destruction of Sodom and Gomorra. He did hear and answer the heart of Abraham in the safety of Lot and his children. One correction - I mention Isaiah 66:2 in this episode. When I said it, I should have listened to myself. (Now I know what Cathy feels like.) The verse I had in mind was Isaiah 65:24 "It will also come to pass that I will answer before they call; while they are still speaking, I will hear. So think about that verse when you hear Isaiah 66:2 (which is a great verse, too.) We have also republished a companion Episode: "Personal/Powerful Prayer Lessons - God is the Same Yesterday, Today, and Forever." We examine Biblically; God answers prayers precisely as we have asked them. The oldest and most faithful servant, Abraham had learned faith as he lived through Abraham's struggles and victories in his wait for the promised son. We see him pray to Yahweh, a particular prayer, and when the prayer was answered in his view, as he had asked, he had two reactions, as we do: Meanwhile, the man was gazing at her in silence to know whether the LORD had made his journey successful. Genesis 24:21, so precise was God's response; his mouth was shut, and he awaited confirmation. Then, he worshipped: And he said, "Blessed be the LORD, the God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken His lovingkindness and His truth toward my master; as for me, the LORD has guided me in the way to the house of my master's brothers." Genesis 24:27 Let us follow the example of the majestic ones chosen by God to cling to Him. Psalm 5:3 "3 In the morning, O LORD, Thou wilt hear my voice; In the morning I will order my prayer to Thee and eagerly watch." "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." Success is never final. Failure is never fatal. It is courage that counts. (We believe courage born of faith.) These words attributed to Winston Churchill are indeed Biblical and encouraging. The two Biblical principles expressed are: 1. We live until our ministry is done. 2. We are in a process of spiritual growth. These principles are illustrated through Moses, Deuteronomy chapter 34, Elijah 2 Kings 2, and Paul in 2 Timothy 4. Our So What? "Success is never final, failure is never fatal, it is courage, (faith) that counts. Take heart in length of days, pursue God and His will for our lives." Brethren, let's pray for one another. My best days are many times sleepless nights. God has often made the most resounding impact on His hard-headed slave -me- through sleepless nights wrestling with Him. This delayed episode is just one occasion of God's work on a dull hearer. We will see how dangerous it is to believe we pray primarily to get what we want. We follow Balak and Balaam as they persist in prayer, which is clearly against God's will. Ploy 1: Everyone thinks it's a good idea. Ploy 2: Really distinguished men think it is a good idea. Ploy 3: God's servant will get lots of money if you say yes. Ploy 4: Worship, I will give lots of worship if you only give me this. Ploy 5: Threatening the servant of God. (I get my ploys a little out of number. Lol out loud) Balaam finally comes to his senses, but what time I have wasted praying for stones and snakes dull in learning, the joy of my soul resting in my converse with my gracious Savior. Today, we highlight Cameroon, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Morocco, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Glorious Lord in the Church around the world. Thank you all for listening. We are looking at the earthly conversations Jesus had, as recorded in the gospels, to see if we are able to glean anything useful for our prayer lives. Our latest segment comes from John chapter 2 and the wedding party at Cana. We find not only is He the God of the impossible, but He can accomplish multiple things through one prayer. The prayer of Mary, "They have no wine." Began a miracle, at least 180 gallons of good wine. Although the miracle was a "quiet one," it accomplished all Mary had prayed, but it set the beginning of the evangelist team God would use to turn the world upside down. "This beginning of His signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory, and His disciples believed in Him." John 2:11 Our So What? When we cast our prayers to the heart of our God, we scarce know how those prayers may be used in the plan of the Almighty. Therefore, we heed then the exhortations of E.M. Bounds and the apostle Paul: "Nothing is well done without prayer for the simple reason that it leaves God out of the account." " Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all to the glory of God." 1 Corinthians 10:31 Brethren, let's pray for one another. Our first devotional in season 7 begins with Faith. We are called to walk by Faith. In this command, I don't pretend to understand the mind of God fully. At this moment, I know that walking by Faith is essential to our Creator and Savior, and for me, that is enough to take His desire seriously. Our So What? Our communion with God on a regular basis, and as we are moved by the Holy Spirit to pray, is the ultimate act of Faith for the child of God. "Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1 "And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him." "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort;" 2 Corinthians 1:3 This is a special passage for me because on a day early in my walk with the Lord, I needed comfort, and this verse was in my scheduled reading. Today's episode has taken a turn. As I prayed this morning, I prayed, "The LORD your God is in your midst, a victorious warrior. He will exult over you with joy, He will be quiet in His love, He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy." Zephaniah 3:17 for all of you. Pausing momentarily, I said, No, not you, Fred. He is not shouting over you with shouts of joy. Repentance came immediately; what I said was not of faith. What I had planned for this episode, I changed. The following thoughts I meditated on. Theologically: I remembered the people Jesus sought out to be in His kingdom. When God said, I am choosing a man after my own heart, He chose David, even knowing his sin with Bathsheba was coming. God is in charge of our sanctification. I don't know why He acts so differently in us, but the Bible is clear. He is the God who Sanctifies; Exodus 31:13 Who did Jesus seek for His Kingdom? A wanton and despised woman by a well, John 4. A crippled man by the wayside, John 5. An adulterous woman in John 8, a blind, useless man in John 9, and the failure of Peter, John 21. Finally, a man on a cross who knew He was a sinner is today in paradise with the Savior he called out to. Luke 23:43 "How Does Jesus think of Us?" Now, a sermon by Sinclair Ferguson (listen to it, please) "Father, I desire that they also, whom Thou hast given Me, be with Me where I am, in order that they may behold My glory, which Thou hast given Me; for Thou didst love Me before the foundation of the world." John 17:24 These are you and I, beloved of God; we have believed because of the word written by the Apostles. - Gifts from the Father to the Son. Our value is not intrinsic to our virtue, but because we are gifts from the Father to the Son. Our So What? Every time you are tempted to say to yourself, "no, not for you" (your name here), concerning the promises of God, remember Jesus thinks of you right now as a precious gift from the Father, and perish the thought "no. not for me." Brethren, let's pray for one another. "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." Finally, I get every country on a continent correctly, and the countries, Australia, that's it, that's the list! I am so pleased! (What I did get wrong is the Devotional's number!) Today, we begin a series of three devotionals, beginning with the God of all the earth, "For your husband is your Maker, Whose name is the LORD of hosts; And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel, Who is called the God of all the earth." Isaiah 54:5 We find: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." Genesis 1:1 At the creation, God was there - There is no other. "…In heaven above and on the earth below; there is no other." Deuteronomy 4:39 "Know that the LORD Himself is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture." Psalm 100:3 "You will say to me then, 'Why does He still find fault? For who resists His will?' 20 On the contrary, who are you, O man, who answers back to God? The thing molded will not say to the molder, "Why did you make me like this," will it? 21 Or does not the potter have a right over the clay, to make from the same lump one vessel for honorable use, and another for common use?" God Himself answers the question of evil by Himself entering into the evil as our effective propitiation. There is no other sacrifice beyond His. (It's not my thought; I got it from John Lennox.) Our So What? Prayer, our community with God, increases our due deference to the God of all the earth as we are moved by the willing sacrifice of Jesus the Christ. The episode ends at 16:50 Greetings from the paddock to the United States, Canada, Barbados, the Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago, and Jamaica. Geography not being one of my strengths, I did not realize so many countries are considered in North America, but here they are; thank you all for listening to the podcast and sharing in the kingdom's concert of prayer. The wedding of Cana demonstrates the impossible God doing the impossible! At Mary's enigmatic request, Jesus asserts that His time has not yet come. In the language of Mary and Jesus, that meant, "I'll take care of it." Jesus turned at least 120 gallons of water into the finest of wines in a moment. This miracle, however, was not for the masses, but for the wedding guests. For at least five of the guests, there was a special purpose, but today we learn: Our So What? We pray in faith, and looking to God for the answers, we will see those seemingly small miracles that the Biblical characters experienced, too. Next time, we will see how our simplest prayers sometimes ripple out to have meaning far beyond all our expectations. "Now to Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, 21 to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen." Ephesians 3:20-21 Brethren, let's pray for one another. "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." The close begins at 16.31 Even before there is a word on my tongue, Behold, O LORD, Thou dost know it all. Psalm 139:4 We know God is omniscient, yet we hear one another telling God what He already knows when we talk to Him. The good news is that we see our Biblical examples engaging in the same thing. Why? We can get absorbed by our concerns or worship so much so we tell God what we know He knows. We see in the wedding a Cana, that all Mary said to Jesus was. "They have no wine." John 3:3 Jesus, for His part, knew what she was asking. Our So What? He is what we are not, perfect. He understands our prayers, no matter how incomplete. Our aim in our community with our Creator, Savior, and Sustainer is to be open and laid bare to Him. We trust not in our words to inform, nor in eloquence to persuade, but in Him alone does our soul rest. "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." In examining the question, "What is Prayer?" We accidentally learn why we pray. We highlight and rejoice in the closed countries we are heard in. We want you to know we remember you daily in our prayers and are blessed you listen. I struggled in the first year of my salvation in the area of prayer. Forty-five or so years ago, I neither understood, comprehended, nor apprehended that I was in a new and authentic relationship with my Creator, Savior, and Internal Companion who indwells us all. It took most of those forty years to realize the true nature of eternal life was: "And this is eternal life, that they may know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent." John 17:3 How I learned that in the 20-year struggle with depression! Here is a quick outline of where we begin this episode. 1. We were created for community with our Creator. 2. We are born estranged (not in community) from our Creator. 3. We have been recreated for the community with our Creator. 4. Our journey, peace, meaning, comfort, contentment, and abundant life are born, nurtured, and grown from our community with our Creator. 5. Heaven, eternal life, is learning to know our Creator. Our So What? And our journey in this lifetime. The peace, meaning, comfort, contentment, and abundant life we were promised and longed for are only nurtured and grown in our community with our Heavenly Father. Brethren, let's pray for one another. "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more."
