Chef Shuai Wang was the runner-up on the 22nd season of Bravo’s Top Chef and is the force behind two standout restaurants in Charleston, South Carolina—Jackrabbit Filly and King BBQ—where he brings together the flavors of his childhood in Beijing and the spirit of the South in some pretty unforgettable ways. He grew up just a short walk from Tiananmen Square, in a tiny home with no electricity or running water, where his grandmother often cooked over charcoal. Later, in Queens, New York, his mom taught herself to cook—her first dishes were a little salty, but they were always made with love. And somewhere along the way, Shuai learned that cooking wasn’t just about food—it was about taking care of people. After years working in New York kitchens, he made his way to Charleston and started building something that feels entirely his own. Today, we’re talking about how all those experiences come together on the plate, the family stories behind his cooking, and what it’s been like to share that journey on national TV. We are praying for revival to begin in Albania. In this example of Jesus' conversations and how we can apply them to prayer, we return to Jesus and Nicodemus. He comes in the night with a nagging question, that he doesn't even ask: How can I be right with God? We saw last time, Jesus knows truly what is on his heart, and blows His mind by saying: "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." John 3:3 After adding an illustration of the wind, Nicodemus cries out, "How can these things be?" We see, however, from Ezekiel 11:19-20, 36:26-27, and Ezekiel 37, that the concept of needing to be born again should not have been foreign to "the teacher in Israel," but it was. Even Jeremiah wrote: "But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days," declares the LORD, "I will put My law within them, and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 34 "And they shall not teach again, each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,' for they shall all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them," declares the LORD, "for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more." Jeremiah 31:33-34 God does not shrink back from telling us the difficult truths of the gospel, even if we wrestle with them. Our So what? "In humility, difficult truths lead us to, Lord, God, Thou knowest, and I trust in Thee." Ezekiel in the valley of the dry bones. "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." Welcome, Bulgaria, and wow! What a trout fishing sensation you are! Thank you for joining the Free Range Preacher on Prayer podcast. Today, we are back to our gratitude in God, as He has revealed Himself. Today, we look again at the traumatic holiness (otherness) of God. As we stand ten feet from the sun, we look through a prism that filters out all but the moral perfection of God. "In the year of King Uzziah's death, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple. 2 Seraphim stood above Him, each having six wings; with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one called out to another and said, "Holy, Holy, Holy, is the LORD of hosts, The whole earth is full of His glory." 4 And the foundations of the thresholds trembled at the voice of him who called out, while the temple was filling with smoke." Isaiah 6:1-4 His moral perfection alone shatters our self-image and humbles us to the core. "Then I said, "Woe is me, for I am ruined! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I live among a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts." Isaiah 6:5 It's a beautiful humility and reverence. Do you imagine Isaiah, Moses, John in revelation, David, Paul, Peter, or any of the Biblical saints being sad after seeing God in His Holiness and being torn to pieces and then healed? Our so what? The beauty of God in His Holiness leads us to humility, which relieves our torn self-image and is beautiful to us. By definition, a life-changing beauty. Brethren, let's pray for one another. "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more"" Robert MurrayM'Cheynee Donation link: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=G9JGGR5W97D64 Or go to www.freerangepreacheronprayer.com and use the Donations tab. Welcome Iceland to the Free Range Preacher on Prayer podcast. We are glad to have you here, and I am blessed to say I have a dear friend who lived in your country for many memorable years of her life. Today, we are thankful for the Holiness of God. We liken Isaiah's experience in Isaiah 6, to standing 10 feet from the earth's sun and asking: "What do you believe you would notice first? Did you imagine the sun's immensity? Sheer size? How about the blinding light, the pull of gravity? What could keep you only 10 feet from the sun? Would you notice the solar winds, the heat, or the violent atomic fusion? Better still, which one of those would tear you to pieces first? Better stiller, our "So What?" What in the world is there to be thankful for, as Isaiah says? "Woe is me, for I am ruined! "O LORD, what is man, that Thou dost take knowledge of him? Or the son of man, that Thou dost think of him? 4 Man is like a mere breath; His days are like a passing shadow." Psalm 144:3-4 The immense, righteous, all-powerful, just God of the universe takes knowledge of us. Fleeting and as puny as we are, He thinks of us. Brethren, let's pray for one another. In examining the question, "What is Prayer?" We accidentally learn why we pray. Even though no Biblical person asks why we pray? Their lives reveal our anguished need for prayer. We are sinners. Until glory, we struggle with sin. Prayer is the act of faith that assures our soul. We are complex lonely beings, and prayer brings us into the arms of our heavenly Father, who knows us, holds us, and comforts us. Some of my favorite prayers: Hannah, 1 Samuel 1. Fathers calling out for their children, Mark 9, Matthew 9, Luke 7. A roofing job, Mark 2 Psalm 39, Psalm 42 The woman who touched Jesus' robe, Luke 8. Scriptures referenced: Luke 18:1 Proverbs 15:8 Psalm 42:1 2 Corinthians 5:17 & Ezekiel 11:19 John 17:3 (of course) Hebrews 11:1&6 Matthew 11:28-30 Romans 8:14-15 Romans 8:26-28 1 Corinthians 12:11-12 Hebrews 4:16, 7:25, 4:12-13 The TARDIS even makes an appearance as we learn: Psalm 62:8 Trust in Him at all times, O people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Category - Devotional Humanity, one and all, are a bruised reed and smoking flax. It is not until the pain makes us desperate for mercy outside ourselves that we will call out to the only name given among men, by which we must be saved! So writes Richard Sibbes: "The bruised reed is a man that for the most part is in some misery, as those were that came to Christ for help, and by misery he is brought to see sin as the cause of it, for, whatever pretenses sin makes, they come to an end when we are bruised and broken. He is sensible of sin and misery, even unto bruising; and, seeing no help in himself, is carried with restless desire to have supply from another, with some hope, which a little raises him out of himself to Christ, though he dare not claim any present interest of mercy. This spark of hope being opposed by doubtings and fears rising from corruption makes him as smoking flax; so that both these together, a bruised reed and smoking flax, make up the state of a poor distressed man." We pray with fear and trembling for our beloved and every soul we genuinely care about: "O Father, be as gentle as Thou canst, but as vexing as is necessary to bruise my beloved so they will seek Thee for what Thou alone has to offer, the spring of life in salvation." How can we pray our cherished ones be bruised and smoking? We know, from the gracious words of our Lord and Savior, who in our turn bruised us to seek His grace: "For whoever wishes to save his life shall lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel's shall save it. 36 "For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul? 37 "For what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Mark 8:35-37 Our So What? Despite the sorrows that perhaps lay ahead for our beloved, as the prince of preachers said: "If sinners be damned, at least let them leap to Hell over our dead bodies. And if they perish, let them perish with our arms wrapped about their knees, imploring them to stay. If Hell must be filled, let it be filled in the teeth of our exertions, and let not one go unwarned and unprayed for." "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." The words of Richard Baxter are earthy, moving, and convicting. He echoes the truth that we can begin to enjoy God's rest as we seek Him foremost. Baxter in "The Saints Everlasting Rest" brings us to tears, and He laments in the voice of God: "How must we offend our dear Lord when we give him cause to complain, as he did of our fellow idolaters: "My people have been lost sheep; they have forgotten their resting-place. My people can find rest in anything rather than in me. They can delight in one another, but not in me. They can rejoice in my creatures and ordinances, but not in me. Yea, in their very labors and duties they seek for rest, but not in me. They had rather be anywhere than be with me. Are these their gods? Have these redeemed them? Will these be better to them than I have been, or than I would be?" If you yourselves had a wife, a husband, a son, who had rather be any where than in your company, and was never so merry as when farthest from you, would you not take it ill? So our God must needs do." He then urges us: "O Christian, follow thy work, look to thy dangers, hold on to the end, win the field, and come off the ground before thou think of a settled rest." His words are sobering to my soul. "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." Greetings, Europe, and thank you for listening. Nicodemus comes by night to Jesus in John 3 with a troubling question. But he doesn't ask it. He says: "Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him." John 2:2 Jesus, however, goes straight to the point, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." John 3:3 Since we know: "Even before there is a word on my tongue, Behold, O LORD, Thou dost know it all." Psalm 139:4 And "For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do. Hebrews 4:12-13 Our So What? Our Savior calls us to honest, sincere communion with Him. We have no need to hide our deepest desires; after all, He already knows them. We conclude our Signature Episode in segments with the why of prayer and the difficulty of the truth, "the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. Our growth and consistent prayer move our prayers prayer from a task or discipline to the sweetest part of our day. The Apostle Paul will be our last example. With the insight of a life lived for the spread of the gospel, Paul describes earthly life in this way: Life is full of afflictions, crushed, perplexed, persecuted, struck down, and frustrated. Other inescapable burdens are immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like that. How then can the man who accurately details the sorrows and burdens of all God's redeemed also say: Rejoice always; 17 pray without ceasing; 18 in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 and Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! Philippians 4:4. Our So What? "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7 The art of prayer leads to overcoming all that discourages us in His presence and power. Treasured ones of God, cultivate your prayer life to His glory and your soul's satisfaction, even in this fallen world. Amen Brethren, let us pray for one another to overcome the weakness of the flesh through prayer. "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." We are wrapping up, or beginning to, our signature episode; in this installment, we start with David's description in Psalm 22 of the crucifixion of Jesus. Beginning with the most historic moment, both great joy for us and agony for our Savior, "My God, my God, why hast Thou forsaken me?" Psalm 22:1a The spiritual separation of Jesus, his pain, and humiliation are also described in Psalm 22. What did Jesus do in anticipation of this excruciating pain? He sought the Father, gathered His friends, and prayed. "And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as Thou wilt." Matthew 26:39 We apply this in various and sundry ways: "The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak." However, it is key to note that we hear that phrase from our Savior in the context of prayer! Our So What? Our duty, glory, excellency, and abundant life flow directly from our communion with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Brethren, let us pray for one another to overcome the weakness of the flesh through prayer. "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." Morocco has beautiful landscapes and movie sets from around the world. My favorite is Casablanca, which stars Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. Thank you, everyone in Morocco, for listening. Our impossible need: To understand prayer, we need to understand being humanity. We cry before we are able to talk, but the reasons we cry and talk are the same. We are sinners. The natural state of our sons is selfishness and self-centeredness. We are complicated and bigger on the inside. We are built Biblically upside down. We look to what is best for us as an individual. The results: Estrangement from God, and isolation from one another. Our So What? We long to know others and be fully known by others, beginning with the God-shaped void in our souls. Our impossible solution, next time. Brethren, let's pray for one another. "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." The Apostle Paul was distressed, buffeted by Satan. Evidently, Paul's practice of buffeting his body was insufficient to keep him humble. Paul prayed three times for relief from the thorn in his flesh, and when the answer came back, (no) My grace is sufficient for you, Paul's response was: "And He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness." Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may dwell in me. 10 Therefore, I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ's sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong." 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 When God tells us no, there is a reason. All that He does in our lives, including answering our prayers, is to accomplish this one thing: "For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the first-born among many brethren;" "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. 29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the first-born among many brethren; 30 and whom He predestined, these He also called; and whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified." Romans 8:28-30 Conformity to Jesus comes through humility. Therefore, when He says no, our praise, adoration, and thanksgiving are just as enthusiastic as when we get what we pray for. We have seen the futility of trying to manipulate God from His will through the error of Balaam. We have also seen the glory of God as He answers the particular prayer of Abraham's servant in an eerily precise way. Today, we will see God answer our prayers even as they may be vague, but He knows our hearts and grants even those imprecise prayers, even as He answers our specific prayers as He knows the deepest desires of our hearts. To His glory, He knows what we need, and although He answers differently than we have prayed, our souls are satisfied as our desires are affirmed. God was not swayed from His determined destruction of Sodom and Gomorra. He did hear and answer the heart of Abraham in the safety of Lot and his children. One correction - I mention Isaiah 66:2 in this episode. When I said it, I should have listened to myself. (Now I know what Cathy feels like.) The verse I had in mind was Isaiah 65:24 "It will also come to pass that I will answer before they call; while they are still speaking, I will hear. So think about that verse when you hear Isaiah 66:2 (which is a great verse, too.) We have also republished a companion Episode: "Personal/Powerful Prayer Lessons - God is the Same Yesterday, Today, and Forever." We examine Biblically; God answers prayers precisely as we have asked them. The oldest and most faithful servant, Abraham had learned faith as he lived through Abraham's struggles and victories in his wait for the promised son. We see him pray to Yahweh, a particular prayer, and when the prayer was answered in his view, as he had asked, he had two reactions, as we do: Meanwhile, the man was gazing at her in silence to know whether the LORD had made his journey successful. Genesis 24:21, so precise was God's response; his mouth was shut, and he awaited confirmation. Then, he worshipped: And he said, "Blessed be the LORD, the God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken His lovingkindness and His truth toward my master; as for me, the LORD has guided me in the way to the house of my master's brothers." Genesis 24:27 Let us follow the example of the majestic ones chosen by God to cling to Him. Psalm 5:3 "3 In the morning, O LORD, Thou wilt hear my voice; In the morning I will order my prayer to Thee and eagerly watch." "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." Success is never final. Failure is never fatal. It is courage that counts. (We believe courage born of faith.) These words attributed to Winston Churchill are indeed Biblical and encouraging. The two Biblical principles expressed are: 1. We live until our ministry is done. 2. We are in a process of spiritual growth. These principles are illustrated through Moses, Deuteronomy chapter 34, Elijah 2 Kings 2, and Paul in 2 Timothy 4. Our So What? "Success is never final, failure is never fatal, it is courage, (faith) that counts. Take heart in length of days, pursue God and His will for our lives." Brethren, let's pray for one another. My best days are many times sleepless nights. God has often made the most resounding impact on His hard-headed slave -me- through sleepless nights wrestling with Him. This delayed episode is just one occasion of God's work on a dull hearer. We will see how dangerous it is to believe we pray primarily to get what we want. We follow Balak and Balaam as they persist in prayer, which is clearly against God's will. Ploy 1: Everyone thinks it's a good idea. Ploy 2: Really distinguished men think it is a good idea. Ploy 3: God's servant will get lots of money if you say yes. Ploy 4: Worship, I will give lots of worship if you only give me this. Ploy 5: Threatening the servant of God. (I get my ploys a little out of number. Lol out loud) Balaam finally comes to his senses, but what time I have wasted praying for stones and snakes dull in learning, the joy of my soul resting in my converse with my gracious Savior. Today, we highlight Cameroon, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Morocco, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Glorious Lord in the Church around the world. Thank you all for listening. We are looking at the earthly conversations Jesus had, as recorded in the gospels, to see if we are able to glean anything useful for our prayer lives. Our latest segment comes from John chapter 2 and the wedding party at Cana. We find not only is He the God of the impossible, but He can accomplish multiple things through one prayer. The prayer of Mary, "They have no wine." Began a miracle, at least 180 gallons of good wine. Although the miracle was a "quiet one," it accomplished all Mary had prayed, but it set the beginning of the evangelist team God would use to turn the world upside down. "This beginning of His signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory, and His disciples believed in Him." John 2:11 Our So What? When we cast our prayers to the heart of our God, we scarce know how those prayers may be used in the plan of the Almighty. Therefore, we heed then the exhortations of E.M. Bounds and the apostle Paul: "Nothing is well done without prayer for the simple reason that it leaves God out of the account." " Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all to the glory of God." 1 Corinthians 10:31 Brethren, let's pray for one another. Our first devotional in season 7 begins with Faith. We are called to walk by Faith. In this command, I don't pretend to understand the mind of God fully. At this moment, I know that walking by Faith is essential to our Creator and Savior, and for me, that is enough to take His desire seriously. Our So What? Our communion with God on a regular basis, and as we are moved by the Holy Spirit to pray, is the ultimate act of Faith for the child of God. "Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1 "And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him." Hebrews 11:6 Brethren, let's pray for one another. "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort;" 2 Corinthians 1:3 This is a special passage for me because on a day early in my walk with the Lord, I needed comfort, and this verse was in my scheduled reading. Today's episode has taken a turn. As I prayed this morning, I prayed, "The LORD your God is in your midst, a victorious warrior. He will exult over you with joy, He will be quiet in His love, He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy." Zephaniah 3:17 for all of you. Pausing momentarily, I said, No, not you, Fred. He is not shouting over you with shouts of joy. Repentance came immediately; what I said was not of faith. What I had planned for this episode, I changed. The following thoughts I meditated on. Theologically: I remembered the people Jesus sought out to be in His kingdom. When God said, I am choosing a man after my own heart, He chose David, even knowing his sin with Bathsheba was coming. God is in charge of our sanctification. I don't know why He acts so differently in us, but the Bible is clear. He is the God who Sanctifies; Exodus 31:13 Who did Jesus seek for His Kingdom? A wanton and despised woman by a well, John 4. A crippled man by the wayside, John 5. An adulterous woman in John 8, a blind, useless man in John 9, and the failure of Peter, John 21. Finally, a man on a cross who knew He was a sinner is today in paradise with the Savior he called out to. Luke 23:43 "How Does Jesus think of Us?" Now, a sermon by Sinclair Ferguson (listen to it, please) "Father, I desire that they also, whom Thou hast given Me, be with Me where I am, in order that they may behold My glory, which Thou hast given Me; for Thou didst love Me before the foundation of the world." John 17:24 These are you and I, beloved of God; we have believed because of the word written by the Apostles. - Gifts from the Father to the Son. Our value is not intrinsic to our virtue, but because we are gifts from the Father to the Son. Our So What? Every time you are tempted to say to yourself, "no, not for you" (your name here), concerning the promises of God, remember Jesus thinks of you right now as a precious gift from the Father, and perish the thought "no. not for me." Brethren, let's pray for one another. "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." Finally, I get every country on a continent correctly, and the countries, Australia, that's it, that's the list! I am so pleased! (What I did get wrong is the Devotional's number!) Today, we begin a series of three devotionals, beginning with the God of all the earth, "For your husband is your Maker, Whose name is the LORD of hosts; And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel, Who is called the God of all the earth." Isaiah 54:5 We find: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." Genesis 1:1 At the creation, God was there - There is no other. "…In heaven above and on the earth below; there is no other." Deuteronomy 4:39 "Know that the LORD Himself is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture." Psalm 100:3 "You will say to me then, 'Why does He still find fault? For who resists His will?' 20 On the contrary, who are you, O man, who answers back to God? The thing molded will not say to the molder, "Why did you make me like this," will it? 21 Or does not the potter have a right over the clay, to make from the same lump one vessel for honorable use, and another for common use?" God Himself answers the question of evil by Himself entering into the evil as our effective propitiation. There is no other sacrifice beyond His. (It's not my thought; I got it from John Lennox.) Our So What? Prayer, our community with God, increases our due deference to the God of all the earth as we are moved by the willing sacrifice of Jesus the Christ. Brethren, let's pray for one another. "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." The episode ends at 16:50 Greetings from the paddock to the United States, Canada, Barbados, the Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago, and Jamaica. Geography not being one of my strengths, I did not realize so many countries are considered in North America, but here they are; thank you all for listening to the podcast and sharing in the kingdom's concert of prayer. The wedding of Cana demonstrates the impossible God doing the impossible! At Mary's enigmatic request, Jesus asserts that His time has not yet come. In the language of Mary and Jesus, that meant, "I'll take care of it." Jesus turned at least 120 gallons of water into the finest of wines in a moment. This miracle, however, was not for the masses, but for the wedding guests. For at least five of the guests, there was a special purpose, but today we learn: Our So What? We pray in faith, and looking to God for the answers, we will see those seemingly small miracles that the Biblical characters experienced, too. Next time, we will see how our simplest prayers sometimes ripple out to have meaning far beyond all our expectations. "Now to Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, 21 to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen." Ephesians 3:20-21 Brethren, let's pray for one another. "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." The close begins at 16.31 Even before there is a word on my tongue, Behold, O LORD, Thou dost know it all. Psalm 139:4 We know God is omniscient, yet we hear one another telling God what He already knows when we talk to Him. The good news is that we see our Biblical examples engaging in the same thing. Why? We can get absorbed by our concerns or worship so much so we tell God what we know He knows. We see in the wedding a Cana, that all Mary said to Jesus was. "They have no wine." John 3:3 Jesus, for His part, knew what she was asking. Our So What? He is what we are not, perfect. He understands our prayers, no matter how incomplete. Our aim in our community with our Creator, Savior, and Sustainer is to be open and laid bare to Him. We trust not in our words to inform, nor in eloquence to persuade, but in Him alone does our soul rest. "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." In examining the question, "What is Prayer?" We accidentally learn why we pray. We highlight and rejoice in the closed countries we are heard in. We want you to know we remember you daily in our prayers and are blessed you listen. I struggled in the first year of my salvation in the area of prayer. Forty-five or so years ago, I neither understood, comprehended, nor apprehended that I was in a new and authentic relationship with my Creator, Savior, and Internal Companion who indwells us all. It took most of those forty years to realize the true nature of eternal life was: "And this is eternal life, that they may know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent." John 17:3 How I learned that in the 20-year struggle with depression! Here is a quick outline of where we begin this episode. 1. We were created for community with our Creator. 2. We are born estranged (not in community) from our Creator. 3. We have been recreated for the community with our Creator. 4. Our journey, peace, meaning, comfort, contentment, and abundant life are born, nurtured, and grown from our community with our Creator. 5. Heaven, eternal life, is learning to know our Creator. Our So What? And our journey in this lifetime. The peace, meaning, comfort, contentment, and abundant life we were promised and longed for are only nurtured and grown in our community with our Heavenly Father. Brethren, let's pray for one another. "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." Today, we make a broad but apt, I think, illustration from John 1:35-51. We see through this passage a simple conversation with Jesus and then perplexing words from The Word of God, Jesus. Finally, we see an enigmatic revelation from our Savior. Before we get to the content, we highlight, almost all (spoilers) the island nations in which we have listeners! Thank You, treasured ones (Psalm 83:3), from the Dominican Republic, Fiji, Jamaica, Japan, Madagascar, Mauritius, New Zealand, Trinidad and Tobago, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Puerto Rico. Jesus looked at him, and said, "You are Simon the son of John; you shall be called Cephas" (which is translated Peter)." John 1:42 Enigmatic: "You shall see greater things than these." John 1:50 Our So What? We often don't put ourselves in the shoes of the disciples or Biblical characters; we should; even the fiery Elijah James tells us is a man with a nature like ours, so all the Biblical characters, we begin simply, basically, we often find the word of God and always the character of God inexplicably in human terms, but when we pursue Him, He opens our eyes, and then we pray for knowledge and wisdom and discernment. Pray, Pray, Pray, family of the Most High in faith continually. Brethren, let us pray for one another to overcome the weakness of the flesh through prayer. Today, we head to the South Sea to say hello to everyone in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines; we thank you, and just knowing that you are there and dedicated to our Savior, Jesus Christ, is our great joy. We found from John 1:34-51 that as Jesus spoke to His disciples first, so God has spoken to us first through the Bible. Today, we see that Jesus was there and listening with the intent to answer, so God is there listening to all the redeemed and ready to answer. His very mercies teach us: "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Neither are your ways My ways," declares the LORD. 9 "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts." Isaiah 55:8-9 Our So What? In the mercies of the majestic "I AM," we are exhorted to call out to Him because He is there and listening. Pray, Pray, Pray, family of the Most High in faith continually. Brethren, let us pray for one another to overcome the weakness of the flesh through prayer. ""What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more."" The episode ends at 15.40, and then we have our close if you are disposed to listen. How do we find Jesus? A preacher, pastor, or evangelist points to Jesus. John 1:35-37 We hear about Jesus through one another. John 1:41, John 2:45 Jesus in His way comes to find us. John 1:43 He speaks to us first: "What do you seek?" John 1:43 "You are Simon the son of John; you shall be called Cephas" John 1:42 "Follow Me." John 1:43: "Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!" John 1:47. We realize He speaks to us first in our reference to Hebrews 1:1-2, and we see we are led to the truth through the word. "So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ." Romans 10:17 "Jesus *said to him, '"I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me.'" Our So What? No matter how we are drawn to Jesus, He speaks to us. First, the Bible declares Jesus to everyone who reads it, and we realize we need the Savior who came to seek and save the lost, and we need Him daily. Brethren, let us pray for one another to overcome the weakness of the flesh through prayer. ""What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more."" Today is a day for introduction! We are reminded of our donation link. We introduce Saudi Arabia. Thank you for listening. Saudi Arabia has been added to our list of countries, including our beloved brothers and sisters from South America - Brazil, Argentina, and Ecuador! Thank you for participating with us for some time now! We also introduce "Jesus and His Disciples - Conversation and Prayer." This is a new segment, where we will look at Jesus and His interactions with those He came to seek and save to see if we find insights to enhance our prayer lives. We will begin in John 2, verse 35, to the end of the chapter. We find each of those disciples mentioned here was pointed to Jesus. They then went to see what He was about and that He spoke to them first. Our So what? What may we make of this? The fact that he spoke to them first? Does His initial communication with them remind you of anything? Is there anything we might learn about prayer, generally or specifically through Jesus and his consistent interaction with the lost and His disciples? Brethren, let us pray for one another to overcome the weakness of the flesh through prayer. ""What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more."" Working with Skippy 2 taught me he wasn't always listening like he indicated. I learned to check everything, no matter how confident he understood what was needed. Our God is faithful; he does what He says. He tells us: "Now He was telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not to lose heart," Luke 18:1 How, though, does prayer keep us from losing heart or fainting? When we trust Him when He says: "Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." Psalm 46:10 And: "Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.." Proverbs 3:5 Our Meditation: When we commune with God, we pour out our supplications, we do so continually. Luke 18 one, and we cease our own efforts, Psalm 46 10, and we acknowledge him trusting that he is taking us the way we need to go Proverbs 3:5-6 Brethren, let us pray for one another to overcome the weakness of the flesh through prayer. While meditating in the paddock on God's goodness, "The LORD is good to all, And His mercies are over all His works." Psalm 145:9 I mused about our sorrows in this life, which led me to "Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but desire fulfilled is a tree of life." Proverbs 13:12 Those thoughts brought me to Romans 8, where Paul tells us we will hope until our final redemption. When we feel like David, "For evils beyond number have surrounded me; My iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am not able to see; They are more numerous than the hairs of my head; And my heart has failed me." Psalm 40:12, what keeps us going? God gives us a path, and that path is His goodness. "I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD In the land of the living." Psalm 27:13 "Wait for the LORD; Be strong, and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the LORD."" Psalm 27:14 "Hear, O LORD, and be gracious to me; O LORD, be Thou my helper." 11 Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing; Thou hast loosed my sackcloth and girded me with gladness; 12 That my soul may sing praise to Thee, and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to Thee forever. Psalm 30:10-12 Our Meditation: When we are sad, turn to God in supplication. While we are praying, remember God is good. When He answers us, we give thanks in our prayers. Brethren, let us pray for one another to overcome the weakness of the flesh through prayer. Just a note: Psalm 127 is a Psalm of Solomon Praying the word of is very instructional; we cannot know the mind of God if we do not know His word, but when we know God through His word, it sharpens our prayers. In 2 Samuel 7, God answers David's prayer, as it were, to build for God a temple to bring honor to His name with a resounding no. Then God reminds David what He has already done for David, how blessed David is, and promises to David his descendants will be blessed. What is David's response? David prays: He worships God, confesses his (David's) smallness, and thanks God. David then intercedes, praying for what God has just promised him! "Now therefore, O LORD God, the word that Thou hast spoken concerning Thy servant and his house, confirm it forever, and do as Thou hast spoken, 26 that Thy name may be magnified forever, by saying, 'The LORD of hosts is God over Israel'; and may the house of Thy servant David be established before Thee." 2 Samuel 7:25 Our So What is found in two passages: "For Thou, O LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, hast made a revelation to Thy servant, saying, 'I will build you a house'; therefore Thy servant has found courage to pray this prayer to Thee." 2 Samuel 7:27 And "And I say to you, ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you." 10 "For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it shall be opened." Luke 11:9-10 Know the word of God, listen to the Holy Spirit, and pray what He has promised. Brethren, let us pray for one another to overcome the weakness of the flesh through prayer. "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." We are wrapping up, or beginning to, our signature episode, in this installment, we start with David's description in Psalm 22 of the crucifixion of Jesus. Beginning, with the most historic, moment both of great joy for us and agony for our Savior. "My God, my God, why hast Thou forsaken me?" Psalm 22:1a The spiritual separation of Jesus, his pain, and humiliation are also described in Psalm 22. What did Jesus do in anticipation of this excruciating pain? He sought the Father, gathered His friends, and prayed. "And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as Thou wilt." Matthew 26:39 We apply in various and sundry ways: "The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak." However, it is key to note that we hear that phrase from our Savior in the context of prayer! Our So What? Our duty, glory, excellency, and abundant life flow directly from our communion with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Brethren, let us pray for one another to overcome the weakness of the flesh through prayer. "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." Through the "Dog Food Incident," I learned that helping my dad around the house was a privilege. At the last extended time, I was able to observe my day, after I had moved from home, I was able to remind him that he was my hero and that I was privileged to be his son. That last salute to my dad had unforeseen eternal results. Thank You, Jesus! The book of Esther teaches us not to take for granted what God has called us to do, and in no way is it less than a privilege to be in the king's presence "Then Esther told them to reply to Mordecai, 16 "Go, assemble all the Jews who are found in Susa, and fast for me; do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my maidens also will fast in the same way. And thus I will go in to the king, which is not according to the law; and if I perish, I perish." Esther 4:15-16 "Now it came about on the third day that Esther put on her royal robes and stood in the inner court of the king's palace in front of the king's rooms, and the king was sitting on his royal throne in the throne room, opposite the entrance to the palace. 2 And it happened when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, she obtained favor in his sight; and the king extended to Esther the golden scepter which was in his hand. So Esther came near and touched the top of the scepter. 3 Then the king said to her, "What is troubling you, Queen Esther? And what is your request? Even to half of the kingdom it will be given to you." Esther 5:1-3 Devotional Meditation Psalm 84:10 "For a day in Thy courts is better than a thousand outside. I would rather stand at the threshold of the house of my God, Than dwell in the tents of wickedness. 11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD gives grace and glory; No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly." Our relationship with our Creator, Savior, and Sustainer is also one with our dad, our father. As we saw last time there is a natural respect we have for our earthly fathers, which translates to our Father in heaven. We add to that the fact He is King. Iconic photos exist of President Kennedy at the resolute desk in the white house with his small children playing in and around the president at work. Iconic photos of the president surrounded by his general staff during the Cuban Missile Crisis also exist. The contrast illustrates our conversations with our Savior, who is: "Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him. 14 For He Himself knows our frame; He is mindful that we are but dust." Psalm 103:13-14 And also: 'Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. 10 'Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:9-10 With 1 Chronicles 16:29 and Psalm 27:8 in mind, our Devotional Meditation is: We are not forcing a formality in our conversation with God. Yet, He is the king of kings and the Lord of Lords. And he's our merciful Father, so it's only natural to engage our Father, the king. And remember, whatever the circumstance, we are not talking to him like we talk to our peers. Brethren, let's pray for one another. I realize when we have episodes like our last one on Job being humbled by God, and I stress the need to come to Him in humility (I realize it because I have been asked) that I assert over and over that prayer is talking to God., so why stress our humble demeanor in prayer? Today, I use my loving, gentle, earthly dad as an example. As a great and open relationship we had, I did not talk to my dad like I talked to my peers. Not at all! So as we consider our earthy respect, and our close as it is relationship with our Holy Father: "Now the main point in what has been said is this: we have such a high priest, who has taken His seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, 2 a minister in the sanctuary, and in the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, not man." Hebrews 8:1-2 "Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; 29 for our God is a consuming fire." Hebrews 12:28-29 Our Devotional Meditation: Must be, Establish Thy word to Thy servant, As that which produces reverence for Thee." Listen today to God's response to Job's challenge, demanding an answer. We will hear God asking Job these questions three: Where were you when I created the universe? Job 38 How do I sustain the universe? Job 39 If you cannot contend with my creation, how will you contend with me? Job 41 Job's humility.: "Then Job answered the LORD, and said, 2 "I know that Thou canst do all things, And that no purpose of Thine can be thwarted. 3 'Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge?' "Therefore I have declared that which I did not understand, Things too wonderful for me, which I did not know." 4 'Hear, now, and I will speak; I will ask Thee, and do Thou instruct me.' 5 "I have heard of Thee by the hearing of the ear; But now my eye sees Thee; 6 Therefore I retract, And I repent in dust and ashes." Job 42:1-6 Job did not storm in like a prince, and his being humbled in the presence of Almighty God reminds us, as God's treasured people, why our Savior began His ministry with these words:: "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. 5 "Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth. 6 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. 7 "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. 8 "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. 9 "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God." We have seen the example of Jeremiah and how his prayer life saw him through the sorrow of God's wrath. Now, we turn to Job and see how his prayer life made him famous for his enduring faith. "Behold, we count those blessed who endured. You have heard of the endurance of Job and have seen the outcome of the Lord's dealings, that the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful." James 5:11 Job was a successful man; he was a wonderful father, but overall, he was a pious man. This is evidenced by his reaction to losing everything. "And it came about, when the days of feasting had completed their cycle, that Job would send and consecrate them, rising up early in the morning and offering burnt offerings according to the number of them all; for Job said, "Perhaps my sons have sinned and cursed God in their hearts." Thus Job did continually." Job 1:5 "Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head, and he fell to the ground and worshiped. 21 And he said, "Naked I came from my mother's womb, And naked I shall return there. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away. Blessed be the name of the LORD." 22 Through all this Job did not sin nor did he blame God." Job 1:20-22 "Then his wife said to him, "Do you still hold fast to your integrity? Curse God and die!" 10 But he said to her, "You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God and not accept adversity?" "In all this Job did not sin with his lips." Job 2:9-10 After being overwhelmed by the tedious attacks on his integrity, Job declared he would strut in like a prince to God Almighty and demand an answer; he was about to face his Almighty Creator. Our So what? Job's prayer life gave him endurance and comfort beyond our apprehension. Treasured ones of God, pray, pray, pray through all God's work in your life; therein is the abundant life promised, knowing Him. Next time, we will learn the one lesson Job needed to learn to bring his life to an abundance of joy. Brethren, let's pray for one another. Unlike Jeremiah, Job had no idea what was coming his way. One of the salient aspects of the Book of Job is that God never explains Himself, not to us or Job. We take a foray into the will of God. "And this is eternal life, that they may know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent." John 17:3 "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. 29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the first-born among many brethren;" Romans 8:28-29 "And He has said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.' Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may dwell in me. 10 Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ's sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong." 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 Our So What? The revealed will of God is only done in joy, peace, and contentment when we listen carefully to Him and commune with Him in prayer. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. 1 Timothy 1:17 Brethren, let's pray for one another. Thank you for listening; today, we detour just a tad, looking at Jesus' chiding, gently. I believe in their focus on the physical, bread, and not the eternal. We also hear Jesus say: "For all these things the nations of the world eagerly seek; but your Father knows that you need these things. 31 "But seek for His kingdom, and these things shall be added to you. 32 "Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom." Luke 12:30-32 The essence of being a baby is crying. If you're a parent, sometimes you go in, and your baby is crying, but they're not wet, and they're not hungry, they're not hurt, and they're not afraid. So we pick them up, hold them close, talk to them a little bit, and hug them, and their crying stops. Why? Because they need us, they need our presence in that moment. I will say it, once more, "God is a much better parent than we are." If your inner man is giving you some trouble, if your inner man is not experiencing the peace you desire, or maybe you've had at other times, my encouragement is to get into your closet and, draw close to your Savior, and talk to him. Our So What? Do we not yet understand that access to the Father is the peace of our walk? Pray, Pray, Pray! Brethren, let's pray for one another. We continue looking at how Jeremiah's long life of consistent prayer leads him to be able to say in Lamentations: "He has filled me with bitterness, He has made me drunk with wormwood. 16 And He has broken my teeth with gravel; He has made me cower in the dust." Jeremiah 3:15-16 AND "Surely my soul remembers And is bowed down within me. 21 This I recall to my mind, Therefore I have hope. 22 The LORD'S lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail. 23 They are new every morning; Great is Thy faithfulness." Lamentations 4:21-23 Our So What? The bitterness of this earthly pilgrimage is made sweet through our consistent, sincere conversation and community with our Creator, Savior, and Sustainer. "I called on Thy name, O LORD, Out of the lowest pit. 56 Thou hast heard my voice, "Do not hide Thine ear from my prayer for relief, From my cry for help." 57 Thou didst draw near when I called on Thee; Thou didst say, "Do not fear!" 58 O Lord, Thou didst plead my soul's cause; Thou hast redeemed my life. 59 O LORD, Thou hast seen my oppression; Judge my case." Today, we say hello to my friend Genci, pastor of Eagles Church in Tirana, Albania, along with all our brothers and sisters who live in Albania. Genci is a man of character who loves his flock and has a beautiful family. The point of mentioning we are sinners, bigger on the inside and lonely, is to demonstrate our great need not only for salvation but to know and be known by others, most critically, God. In the lives of Jeremiah and Job, we see lives that are fully satisfied and trusting in the deepest of sorrows. But how did they get there? By consistent communion, conversation (prayer) with our Creator, Savior, and Sustainer. In a challenging nearly 50-year ministry with Almighty God, Jeremiah learned through every circumstance: "There is none like Thee, O LORD; Thou art great, and great is Thy name in might.” Jeremiah 10:6 "I know, O LORD, that a man's way is not in himself; Nor is it in a man who walks to direct his steps.” Jeremiah 10:23 "Are there any among the idols of the nations who give rain? Or can the heavens grant showers? Is it not Thou, O LORD our God? Therefore we hope in Thee, For Thou art the one who hast done all these things.” Jeremiah 14:22 "Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh; is anything too difficult for Me?” Jeremiah 32:27 "Correct me, O LORD, but with justice; Not with Thine anger, lest Thou bring me to nothing.” Jeremiah 6:24 And Above all, "Thus says the LORD, "Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; 24 but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who exercises lovingkindness, justice, and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things," declares the LORD.” Jeremiah 9:23-24 Brethren, let's pray for one another. Today, the Free Range Preacher on Prayer podcast welcomes several newcomers. Thank you, Slovakia, Panama, Romania, Morocco, Bulgaria, and Iceland! Was Voltaire correct when he said that man had paid God back by creating him in our image? I took that for granted even in my Christian life until Dr. Amanda Podany described in detail (in the series "Ancient Mesopotamia" from Great Courses Plus) the gods of Ancient Mesopotamia. The Creator God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is nothing remotely like those gods. So a careful reading of the Bible shows Voltaire to be mistaken. The great "I AM" in His holiness is profoundly incomprehensible to His creation. Learn about the incomprehensibility of God in today's episode. Our So What? Our inability to apprehend our Creator validates our faith in His promises and His testimony from the Bible that He is indeed the great "I M." Brethren, let's pray for one another. The podcast principal feels better, so we welcome Kenya and the great Tsavo West National Park. I vacillate between the desire to see the beautiful Savanas of Kenya and my dotage fearing the abundant wildlife! Welcome, brothers and sisters in Christ, Kenya, and even the world wild. Thank you for listening. Today, we see the holiness of God through the prism of His mercy. Isaiah stood there. In his humiliation, that beautiful, that beautiful humiliation. And let the angel touch his lips with that searing coal. And the prism we are looking through is God's mercies. And we see The holy God of the universe touching us and cleansing us, in our case, by the blood of Jesus. Isaiah's cases illustrated: "behold, this has touched your lips. And your iniquity is taken away, and your sin is forgiven." He knew then the dirtiness of his sin and the glory of forgiveness, and that's why his humiliation was a beautiful humiliation. At this moment, Isaiah learned the meaning of Jesus' words: "Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that your spirits are, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven." Luke 10. 20. And there's nothing like that. So that beautiful humiliation leads to God's beautiful mercies and our beautiful salvation. So What? Nothing else matters, except our names are recorded in heaven. And every single martyr who died at the stake, or in the Colosseum, or who died being burnt, or drowned, in that moment, they have all they will ever need. Even martyrdom is a means of great gain. Brethren, let's pray for one another. Welcome, Bulgaria, and wow! Welcome Morocco to the podcast; we are glad you are listening, and we will learn more about you in days to come. For now, we quote the famous line from Casablanca, "Play the podcast again, Sam." Missed it by that much. Psalm 139 is one the most moving, comforting, and detailed descriptions of God's Omniscience in the Holy Writ. A sample of what David teaches us: God saved us, knowing our sins intimately. We cannot flee His mercies. Our darkest days are not dark to Him. We are designed to be exactly to be us. Our So What? We are excessively comforted by His knowledge and humbled by His mercies. Humbled to call out, as David did: "Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts; 24 And see if there be any hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way." Whew! A good break we had, but I missed you all. If you listen to this podcast in a place that is a little dangerous, I really appreciate you listening. We pray for you each day, and we are asking all our family who listen to add your safety, the spread of the Gospel, and your edification (through the podcast). Though I don't mention where you live, rest assured of our prayers, and our gratitude you are there. Speaking of gratitude, as is our wont, I like saying that, but I'm not sure why, we begin each year with episodes on our thankfulness to our Creator, Savior, and Sustainer. This year, for the attributes of God! We begin with faithfulness, our verses of contemplation: "Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven." Luke 10:20 "Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass. 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 "Let not your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 "In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. 3 "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. 4 "And you know the way where I am going." 5 Thomas *said to Him, "Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?" 6Jesus *said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me. John 14" 1-6 Our So what? How do we know the promises of God are yes and amen? The Way, the Truth, and the Life said: "if it were not so, I would have told you;" Brethren, let's pray for one another. One joyful aspect each year in October is that I feel more freedom to set the agenda in God's providence. Potpourri is the name of this episode because our passage has various and sundry, (I love that phrase) concepts of supplications, our intercessions, worship, and the Holy Spirit's prayer requests. Let's look: "Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving; 3 praying at the same time for us as well, that God may open up to us a door for the word, so that we may speak forth the mystery of Christ, for which I have also been imprisoned; 4 in order that I may make it clear in the way I ought to speak. 5 Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. 6 Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned, as it were, with salt, so that you may know how you should respond to each person." Sometimes, they are stale because my intentionality wanes, and other times, I am so overwhelmed by the sheer goodness of our triune God that I cannot find the words. No matter the reason, our thanksgivings are flat; the antidote is Scripture: "It is good to give thanks to the LORD, And to sing praises to Thy name, O Most High; 2 To declare Thy lovingkindness in the morning, And Thy faithfulness by night,…" Psalm 92:1-2 "We give thanks to Thee, O God, we give thanks, For Thy name is near; Men declare Thy wondrous works." Psalm 75:1 "Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name." Hebrews 13:15 No matter your circumstance, fall back to: "Rejoice always; 17 pray without ceasing; 18 in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more"" Robert MurrayM'Cheynee Donation link: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=G9JGGR5W97D64 Or go to www.freerangepreacheronprayer.com and use the Donations tab. Worship is the center of the lives of Christians. We are called to worship God for who He is, for what He has done, and for His goodness. Let us once again look to the Holy Spirit as He brings to mind, through our mentor, David, the content of acceptable worship. This call to worship is not just a duty but a privilege and a joy in our Christian journey. "Ascribe to the LORD, O sons of the mighty, Ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. 2 Ascribe to the LORD the glory due to His name; Worship the LORD in holy array. 3 The voice of the LORD is upon the waters; The God of glory thunders, The LORD is over many waters. 4 The voice of the LORD is powerful, The voice of the LORD is majestic. 5 The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars; Yes, the LORD breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon. 6 And He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, And Sirion like a young wild ox. 7 The voice of the LORD hews out flames of fire. 8 The voice of the LORD shakes the wilderness; The LORD shakes the wilderness of Kadesh. 9 The voice of the LORD makes the deer to calve, And strips the forests bare, And in His temple everything says, "Glory!" 10 The LORD sat as King at the flood; Yes, the LORD sits as King forever. 11 The LORD will give strength to His people; The LORD will bless His people with peace." Free Range Preacher on Prayer

As we reach day 25 of our October Surprise month, let's continue to engage and commit to our shared purpose of service! Every passage of Scripture is, at one time or another, a chance to refine our prayers. Today, in the area of service. We have been gifted by the Holy Spirit to serve one another. In the flesh, we all long for some significance. Service in the building up the body of Christ gives us that purpose. Remember, an element of the abundant life Jesus promised is the joy and fulfillment that comes from service. "And since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let each exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith; 7 if service, in his serving; or he who teaches, in his teaching; 8 or he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness." The Author displays for us once again, worship. All of Scripture is potential of worship, one of the most emotive passages in the Bible comes from Isaiah led by the Holy Spirit confessing: “For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6 Worship now, we have seen the coming of the Lord: “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6 Worship future looking: “And the government will rest on His shoulders”…”Prince of Peace.” “Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name; Bring an offering, and come before Him; Worship the LORD in holy array.” 1 Chronicles 16:29 "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more"" Robert MurrayM'Cheynee Donation link: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=G9JGGR5W97D64 Or go to www.freerangepreacheronprayer.com and use the Donations tab. Today, we look at the difficult passage, "'Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. 10 'Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. 11 'Give us this day our daily bread. 12 'And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 'And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil." Matthew 6:9-13 Specifically, verse 13 is the riddle. We know He does not lead us into temptation (James), so why this request? My best sense at this moment: I believe God wants us to reflect and affirm in our prayers our deep sorrow over our sin and our longing to sin no more. (Even though we know that awaits us in glory.) God has given us three very specific prayer requests. He asks us to pray for the harvest and workers for the harvest, and He has asked us to pray for our spiritual leaders. (It may not seem so, but they have that critical need!) Despite the challenges, We are called to pray for our secular leaders. It may seem daunting, especially when we see many of them driven by personal gain. However, we must remember the power of prayer. The Author, the Holy Spirit, is clear in His request for us to pray for them. Our prayers can influence their decisions and actions. "First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, in order that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity." 2 Timothy 2:1-2 "Wherefore it is necessary to be in subjection, not only because of wrath, but also for conscience' sake. 6 For because of this you also pay taxes, for rulers are servants of God, devoting themselves to this very thing. 7 Render to all what is due them: tax to whom tax is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor." I am amazed, even dumbfounded, at one particular skill of our pastors and leaders who are totally sincere, holding their emotions with all the feelings around them. Pastor Greg is a man of integrity and compassion; it had to be God and His mercies on Pastor Greg that enabled him to stay stable. So when we read, "First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, in order that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity." 1 Timothy 2:1-2 Teamed with: "Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you; and considering the result of their conduct, imitate their faith." Hebrews 13:7 "Obey your leaders, and submit to them; for they keep watch over your souls, as those who will give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with grief, for this would be unprofitable for you. 18 Pray for us…" Hebrews 13:17-18a We understand by our experience and Scripture how critical it is to be in prayer for our shepherds. October 19th, 2024, is our celebration month! Today, we look at the first of three prayer requests, very specific requests from the Author of Scripture. Today, He says, "Pray for the harvest. We hear from Jesus: Matthew 9:35-38, and "Jesus *said to them, "My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to accomplish His work. 35 "Do you not say, 'There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest'? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes, and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest. 36 "Already he who reaps is receiving wages, and is gathering fruit for life eternal; that he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. 37 "For in this case the saying is true, 'One sows, and another reaps.' 38 "I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored, and you have entered into their labor." John 4:34-38 The world now seems to need the good news of salvation more than ever. Brethren, let's pray for one another and, moreover, the harvest. Free Range Preacher on Prayer

This episode is a repeat of our episode on forgiveness. This episode was well received, and as you will hear, praying that 2023 will be a year of Jubilee and Forgiveness and revisiting just how serious God is about His children forgiving as we have been forgiven seems like a good idea. Thank You, Jesus! The host is weak, faltering, and wholly inadequate for the task, but the word of God is none of those. The call for the children of God to forgive is serious, and the Bible uses: Serious Command as witnessed by: Commands Matthew 6:14 Mark 11:25 Allusions: Matthew 5:43-45 Philippians 2:3ff Exhortations: Ephesians 4:29-32 Romans 13 Serious Discipline: David was disciplined through Embarrassment; 2 Samuel 2:12 Physical Pain: Psalm 32&38 The regret of others paying for his sins: 2 Samuel 24:17 We have only updated the introduction. Straightforward message today: The Author of Scripture commands us to forgive. The most difficult skill we have to learn, and by skill I mean changing our self-centered attitude about others who have wronged us, but it is an essential command. "Pray, then, in this way: 'Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. 10 'Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. 11 'Give us this day our daily bread. 12' And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors." Matthew 6 9-12 For another look at the serious nature of forgiveness, you can listen to: Jesus Teaches Prayer - Forgiveness: God is Serious. Oh Lord, thank You for Your mercies to forgive us and pay for our sins, teach us to pray in the same manner as we are commanded. Amen! Brethren, let's pray for one another. Day 16 of our October surprise, and we are looking into one of the principles in Scripture, emphasized by Peter. In 1 Peter 2:1, he tells us to, like newborn babes, and grow through the food of Scripture, and then in 2 Peter 1 we read: "Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge; 6 and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness; 7 and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love. 8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins." 2 Peter 1:4-10 The key verse 8, "if these qualities are yours and are increasing." Not a step pyramid, a process of attaining final mastery of a level and then moving on to the next, but a spiral staircase on which we progress up and up continuously until glory. How might the Author's words in 2 Peter 1 infuse our prayer and supplication? Brethren, let's pray for one another. These episodes are a little hard for me. It is hard for me to not input into them at all, and we basically read the Psalm to learn from David, the sweet Psalmist of Israel (2 Samuel 23:1) the art of prayer and worship. While knowing you can read the Psalm for yourself, it is good to worship together culminating with verse 14: "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Thy sight, O LORD, my rock and my Redeemer." Oh, may it be so, our King, the great "I AM!" Worship is sweet! Brethren, let's pray for one another. We asked, What else might daily reliance on God for Bread Teach Us? Contentment is the answer. The Author tells us what that looks like. "Two things I asked of Thee, Do not refuse me before I die: 8 Keep deception and lies far from me, Give me neither poverty nor riches; Feed me with the food that is my portion, 9 Lest I be full and deny Thee and say, "Who is the LORD?" Or lest I be in want and steal, And profane the name of my God." Proverbs 30:7-9 Glory to God, give us today, "what is our portion!" Brethren, let's pray for one another. Free Range Preacher on Prayer

We began our October Surprise with an antidotal story of a prayer meeting I recently attended, and the content was 100 percent centered on health. Lest we think God does not care for the mundane, we come back to Matthew 6:9-12 "Pray, then, in this way: 'Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. 10 'Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. 11 'Give us this day our daily bread." We have, as humans, no more consistent need than food and perhaps no more consistent fear than our daily sustenance. God is the God of our needs. As we come to God daily, we come with our daily needs. We asked what else might relying on God daily teach us and our beloved? (Unless my dotage progresses more than I anticipate, we will answer that tomorrow, or have we already answered it?) “Behold, God is my helper; The Lord is the sustainer of my soul.” Psalm 54:4 Brethren, let's pray for one another. Today, the Author of Scripture, through "the man after God's own heart," displays wondrous worship. "O Lord, our Lord, How majestic is Thy name in all the earth, Who hast displayed Thy splendor above the heavens! 2 From the mouth of infants and nursing babes Thou hast established strength, Because of Thine adversaries, To make the enemy and the revengeful cease. 3 When I consider Thy heavens, the work of Thy fingers, The moon and the stars, which Thou hast ordained; 4 What is man, that Thou dost take thought of him? And the son of man, that Thou dost care for him? 5 Yet Thou hast made him a little lower than God, And dost crown him with glory and majesty! 6 Thou dost make him to rule over the works of Thy hands; Thou hast put all things under his feet, 7 All sheep and oxen, And also the beasts of the field, 8 The birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, Whatever passes through the paths of the seas. 9 O LORD, our Lord, How majestic is Thy name in all the earth!" My realization and confession for today, as I read the first instance that we know of, of Paul sending a missive with his prayer for a Church (1 & 2 Thessalonians seem to be his earliest letters), I was struck with how little time I take in gratitude for God's work in salvation for those I love. That is going to change. Our Passage 1 Thessalonians 1:1-10 in summary. What a list! Thanks and praise for the work of faith and hope in the presence of God. Hello to all our listeners in Japan; I am, by reputation and truth, not much of a traveler, but my beloved friend Rob tells me you are the politest people he has ever visited. Thank you for making us a part of your Christian journey. What should be the content of our prayers? What do His people in the Bible talk to Him about, I thinking everything. You can fact-check me on that. Trust in Him at all times, O people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah. Psalm 62:8 The ultimate reason and result of our prayers is the glory of God. "Pray, then, in this way: 'Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. Matthew 6:9 "Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." 1 Corinthians10:31 The chief reason A, is being conformed to His will. "'Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven." Matthew 6:9 "And He withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and He knelt down and began to pray, 42 saying, "Father, if Thou art willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Thine be done." 43 Now an angel from heaven appeared to Him, strengthening Him. 44 And being in agony He was praying very fervently; and His sweat became like drops of blood, falling down upon the ground." Luke 22:41-44 Chief reason B is for our soul's satisfaction. In John 11, Martha learned that her Savior was true and merciful. In John 11, Mary learned her Savior was faithful and empathetic. Our So What? The fullness of the Christian life comes when we pray to God for his glory, and we see those results. And we pray to God chiefly to be brought into his will. We see those goals, and what He accomplishes through His weak vessels. Also, when we pray, knowing in all ways, our souls are satisfied in Him. Brethren, let's pray for one another. Not as long as it looks; the major content of this episode ends at 16:13, and then we have our close if you are of a mind to listen. Today our request is for all our listeners to let us know, again if you are of a mind your testimonies in prayer. The freedom of episodic themes gives us a chance to slip in a little encouragement. If you are satisfied, happy, in the throes of fits and starts, or just starting out in your prayer life, today's message is to pray, pray, pray. Our prayer lives grow, and change as we develop our prayer craft. We also know that if we never start and continue, we will not develop the growing, Biblical, dynamic, sincere prayer lives that satisfy our souls and glorify our Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer (Aviad), our Everlasting Father. After we are reconciled with the Father in salvation, our abundant life comes as we grow in our community with Him. Our So What? Pray Pray Pray Brethren, let's pray for one another. "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." This episode is a repeat of our episode on forgiveness. Addendum: We begin with a challenge to the special ones who listen but are in Christ, part of the Kingdom of Christ. We welcome Hong Kong and are glad you joined the Free Range Preacher on Prayer. In part two of our signature episode, we find through the Messiah, we have been reconciled to God, we are no longer enemies but Children, and we are brought into a new and transparent relationship with one another. Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ, and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. 2 Corinthians 5:18-19 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's offspring, heirs according to promise. Galatians 2:27-29 Our So What? We know how to initiate, grow, and deepen our human relationships, and those principles apply to our new relationship with God. Why are both truths important to our prayer lives? Next time. Brethren, let's pray for one another. "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." Free Range Preacher on Prayer

Every once in a while, not often, but consistently, I come to a particular episode that I'm doing for myself. Today is one of those. I have told my children, and then everyone else who might listen to this old guy, that the best place to be is at the foot of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in communion with Him—Payer in a simpler term. No matter my circumstance, sad or joyful in my present, the best place for me is at the foot of our Creator, God, Redeemer, King, Rock, and Refuge. Because of His love and compassion, He is our peace, even in fear. Recently, I came across this quote "My sins prevail over me, and the terrors of their guiltiness. I am put often to ask, if Christ and I did ever shake hands together in earnest. I mean not that my feast-days are quite gone, but I am made of extremes." Samuel Rutherford We are children of God, and yet we are children of extremes. We have exquisite love for God in our inner man, and our souls exalt in His truths as we let them wash over us. At the same time we are brought to shame and wonder at the depths of our sins, and also know the cries of Paul: "Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death?" Romans 7:24 A song we referenced before is "Hallelujah," by Leonard Cohen. Whatever way, he came to this genius song verse: "I did my best, it wasn't much. I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch. I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool ya. And even though it all went wrong, I'll stand before the Lord of song with nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah." "There's a blaze of light in every word, it doesn't matter which you heard, the holy or the broken Hallelujah." We all come like Samual Rutherford and my hero/mentor David with great cheer and sorrow, but God accepts our holy and broken Hallelujahs. "I have become dumb, I do not open my mouth, Because it is Thou who hast done it. 10 "Remove Thy plague from me; Because of the opposition of Thy hand, I am perishing. 11 "With reproofs Thou dost chasten a man for iniquity; Thou dost consume as a moth what is precious to him; Surely every man is a mere breath. 12 "Hear my prayer, O LORD, and give ear to my cry; Do not be silent at my tears; For I am a stranger with Thee, A sojourner like all my fathers. 13 "Turn Thy gaze away from me, that I may smile again, Before I depart and am no more." Psalm 39:9-13 "My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises! 8 Awake, my glory; Awake, harp and lyre, I will awaken the dawn! 9 I will give thanks to Thee, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to Thee among the nations. 10 For Thy lovingkindness is great to the heavens, And Thy truth to the clouds. 11 Be exalted above the heavens, O God; Let Thy glory be above all the earth." Psalm 57:7-11 Our So what? That is my witness; that is what I have to give to thee. I know the depths of sorrow that says, turn away thy gaze from me. and I know his loving kindness is great to the heavens. One of the great ends while we are on this earth of our prayer lives is that we learn. That he accepts our holy and our broken, hallelujahs. Brethren, let's pray for one another. Free Range Preacher on Prayer

France and the United Arab Emirates have at least one thing in common: a friend of mine. In today's episode, you can hear that story and how thankful I am to have listeners in both nations. A new year has started, and it is not at all uncommon for God's children to take this time to renew their dedication to God's purpose in their lives. We are also already past quitters day, the day when the promises we have made to ourselves have failed. Today, though, wherever you are in your new year's dedication to a consistent prayer life, consecrated to prayer, committed to daily prayer, you may run into your own quitters day somewhere down the road; then, who ya gonna call? Who are you to judge the servant of another? To his own master, he stands or falls, and stand he will, for the Lord is able to make him stand. God is on your side. He wants you to stand. Secondly, go to the word for your encouragement. Go to the word for your excitement. If you need direction, what did Jesus say in his temptation? It is written. It is written. It is written. God tells us in Matthew 4 to, or Matthew 6, to seek ye first. That was Matthew 4, by the way. He tells us in Matthew 6, 33, to seek ye first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you. Take those as encouragement. If you're tired and worn, remember Matthew 11, 28 and 29. If you need wisdom, James 1 tells you to ask God for wisdom and to pray about it. The basis of our joy is in our circumstances. It's not even what we do for God. It's the fact that our names are written in heaven. You can have joy in that. You know your father loves you. That's Luke 10:20. If you're fearful, he says in Hebrews 13:5 and other places, he will never leave us or forsake us. He won't run away with you because you miss some days or struggle in your conversation. It's hard to talk to God when you have never seen Him again or heard Him. And that's Hebrews' prayer, the definition of faith in Hebrews 11. 1 and 11. 6. When we are at the end and don't know what else to do, what then? Immediately, the boy's father cried out and began saying, I do believe. Help thou my unbelief. Mark 9 24 He's our father. We throw ourselves on his fatherly love. Psalm 104. We call to the sustainer of our soul. Psalm 54, 4 Remember, it's he who initiated our relationship. Matthew 11:28-29 Prayer is a discipline, but don't make it a chore. "Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart. And you shall find rest for your souls, for my yoke is easy and my load is light." Our conversation is a break in our day; it's a respite. It's our hiding place. When you go into your closet to pray by yourself, you may be by yourself physically, but you are never alone. The Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit are giving you their undivided attention. Our So what? Call to God to renew our fellowship with Him. Brethren, let's pray for one another. "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." Welcome to our listeners in northern Italy! A young man, a friend I met a few months ago, is moving this year with his family to southern Italy to reconnect with his heritage. We are sending him off in prayer to be our first listener in south Italy. Leaders in any endeavor know authority. They also know authority demands action. In Matthew 8, we see that a centurion needed only the word of the Lord of glory, Jesus the Messiah, His Savior, had answered his prayer. Our So What? When our Savior says "Now He was telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not to lose heart," Luke 18:1 Our Faithful response is: "When Thou didst say, Seek My face, my heart said to Thee, "Thy face, O LORD, I shall seek." Welcome to the Kingdom of Wales. That phrase has lots of history, and forgive me for it. I have a great friend from Wales. She was a great boss and a wonderful, creative person. “Nuts and Bolts” - Listen at your peril, but there is an encouragement at the end. Thank you. I really enjoyed the energy of last year's October Surprise month, and the feedback was positive. (The whole message explains why we are doing "nuts and bolts," and there's an encouragement at the end today. So for Season Seven, at least to begin with, we are going to use the same format as we do for our October Surprise month. We will produce three episodes a week in a shorter format. We will test this format to see if it works for heavier content topics and how you all like it. So For instance, we are redoing our signature episode and breaking it up into short segments as long as I have self-control. (LOL our loud) That will come out soon. After that, for new listeners who are trying us out, we will republish all the segments on the same day, so the new listeners can take in as much of that episode as they need to get a flavor of the podcast. I know it doesn't always sound like it, but there is a study that goes into the "heavier content" episodes. To stick to this schedule, we will alternate each week, or at the end of each series, typically Devotionals or other "lighter content." Prayerfully, this will allow for a thorough study of the "heavier content episodes." In our nuts and bolts episodes will also include some new aspects of the ministry: Our extra prayer encouragements. 1. Prayer journals, such as the "Foundational Blocks of Biblical Prayer." It is available on Amazon; just search for the title. 2. We will highlight why and how a prayer journal can help foster your prayer life. 3. We are in the process of creating a 2025 prayer journal right now; we will announce it in two weeks. 4. Wearables - No, not the tech kind! We have some t-shirts and other items to promote prayer. through graphics. You will be able to visit the website www.freerangepreacheronprayer.com and get information on the products Caution! One of the reasons I am doing the "Nuts and Bolts" episodes, well the two reasons, 1. To keep the main episodes short. The workings of the podcast should not impede our goal. 2. This is a faith-based ministry, and not to make money. We receive donations occasionally, even when I don't highlight the donation tab because money is not why we do the podcast. Our goal is to help as much as God ordains Christians in our prayer lives. If I didn't use a journal system myself, I would not advocate their use. The next, "Nuts and Bolts," discusses the advantages of using a journal, but not today. Today, a thought occurred to me that I want to end with. In his sermon titled "WhyPray?" Ligon Duncan tells us that no Bible character ever asks that question. None. I add that they believe in the Bible prayer, period. Second I remembered John 21, at the end of the chapter, no need to go into more detail than this, Peter is asking Jesus about His will for the apostle John, and Jesus says, "Jesus *said to him, "If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow Me!" In verse 22. I said to myself today that I have asked all kinds of questions about prayer, doubtful questions at times and curious questions at other times. Of all the questions one might have about prayer, our Master and Savior say, "What is that to you?" You follow Me," and that means pray. Thank you for listening, brethren, let us obey. Brethren, let's pray for one another. Free Range Preacher on Prayer

"Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1 "And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him." We welcome New Zealand today. Thank you for sharing your culture a bit through "The Broken Wood Murder Mysteries" and introducing me to the Maori people. (Even though I practiced, I misspelled your name.) We end our series on God's attributes and how they fuel our gratitude for His mercies in our community (prayer) with Him. Thank You, Jesus. "When Thou didst say, "Seek My face," my heart said to Thee, "Thy face, O LORD, I shall seek." Psalm 27:8 "As for me, I shall behold Thy face in righteousness; I will be satisfied with Thy likeness when I awake." Psalm 17:15 "Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we shall be. We know that, when He appears, we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him just as He is. 3 And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure." 1 John 3:2-3 "...and He shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there shall no longer be any death; there shall no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away." 5 And He who sits on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." Revelation 21:4-5 "For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I shall know fully just as I also have been fully known. 13 But now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love." 1 Corinthians 13:12-13 Our So What? Because of His mercies, every time I sit down to pray, I get at least a glimpse of sweet fellowship with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I get a glimpse of heaven by learning to know Him. Silver and gold have I none, eloquence have I none. What I have, I give to Thee. And that the Holy God of the universe wants you to talk to Him, and you will grow in your relationship with Him. Until you get to the point that your prayer time will be the most precious time of your day. That's my exhortation. Brethren, let's pray for one another. Bula, bula for all our listeners in Fiji. I have been assured that means a good life; we are glad to see you. And we are pleased here at the Free Range Preacher on Prayer that you are listening to Fijians! God is good, and we are blessed to be in His family. We are back to the Holiness of God. His utter incomprehensible nature in His whole person. Today, we see His salvation saves us from His wrath and restores our relationship with Him. In that relationship, we now understand His word, Acts 22:9, and He delights in our community. "Now He was telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not to lose heart," Luke 18:1 "The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, But the prayer of the upright is His delight." Proverbs 15:8 Our so what? Our restored relationship in salvation opens us to a conversation with the Holy God of the universe through His mercies. What a privilege! Pray, Pray, Pray. The Land Down Under, Australia, is our featured nation today; thank you, Aussies. I love your sense of humor and would love to use the words, mate, in a way that sounded natural. I woke up this morning with one thing on my mind, "As Christians, we ought to be stunningly thankful. Here are some of the verses that believers in God should be ridiculously thankful for. We experience the mercies of God, every minute. "Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. 29 "Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and YOU SHALL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. 30 "For My yoke is easy, and My load is light." Matthew 11:28-30 "The LORD is compassionate and gracious, Slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness. 9 He will not always strive with us; Nor will He keep His anger forever. 10 He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. 11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, So great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him. 12 As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us. 13 Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him. 14 For He Himself knows our frame; He is mindful that we are but dust." Psalm 103:8-14 Our so what? Because of mercy, we know Death is conquered. We have a new inner person. We have peace with God. We have hope. Our relationships have eternal meaning. Our conduct has eternal meaning. We have eternal life with the God who loves us. Brethren, let's pray for one another. The Longer we are saved and take our faith seriously, the more our perception of God and His word changes it has to we are growing, 1 Peter 2:1 So, as we look at our passages this October, we are trying to stay out of the way and ask the following question: What does the Author of Scripture say, and how might His letter to us impact the content of our prayers? At the start of our October celebration, I asked the worldwide audience to sincerely pray for my Christian culture here in the U.S. that we would put God at the very center of our lives. It is our great need. "Pray, then, in this way: 'Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. 10 'Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven." Matthew 6:9 How you might apply this passage to your supplications (for yourself) and your intercession (your prayer for others)? Thank You for listening and considering what the Author of the Holy Writ has to teach us. Does the Author of Scripture have any content for us as we pray for brothers and sisters we love, have lost contact with, and may never see again, and may never have met? :And when He saw the multitudes, He went up on the mountain; and after He sat down, His disciples came to Him. 2 And opening His mouth He began to teach them, saying, 3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 9 "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. 10 "Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 "Blessed are you when men cast insults at you, and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, on account of Me. 12 "Rejoice, and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you." As children of God, we are guided by the author of Scripture, and our Father leads us to a personal prayer. This same prayer, when extended to others, becomes a powerful tool of unity and connection in our spiritual community. This year, as in the previous two… Acts 20:24 "But I do not consider my life of any account as dear to myself, in order that I may finish my course, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify solemnly of the gospel of the grace of God."… Has made it to my prayer list. Knowing the critical nature of our spiritual gifts, 1 Corinthians 13 and Ephesians 4, I have begun to pray the same dynamic use of the gifts of the Spirit. What prayers apply to others you intercede for? "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." Is it appropriate for one person, maybe you, to confess the corporate sins of your Christian culture? The Author of Scripture, moving on Daniel and Nehemiah, is worth listening to. "So I gave my attention to the Lord God to seek Him by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes. 4And I prayed to the LORD my God and confessed and said, "Alas, O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant and lovingkindness for those who love Him and keep His commandments, 5 we have sinned, committed iniquity, acted wickedly, and rebelled, even turning aside from Thy commandments and ordinances. 6 "Moreover, we have not listened to Thy servants the prophets, who spoke in Thy name to our kings, our princes, our fathers, and all the people of the land." Daniel 9:3-6 "But they, our fathers, acted arrogantly; They became stubborn and would not listen to Thy commandments. 17 "And they refused to listen, And did not remember Thy wondrous deeds which Thou hadst performed among them; So they became stubborn and appointed a leader to return to their slavery in Egypt. But Thou art a God of forgiveness, Gracious and compassionate, Slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness; And Thou didst not forsake them." The truth is, I am not all that smart, but one thing I do know beyond all doubt is "And this is eternal life, that they may know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent." John 17:3 Nothing is better in the whole world, and our converse with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit also carries us through the deepest valleys. Thank You, Jesus! Our meditation for today: How might we apply these passages to our prayer lives? Move on is Holy Spirit. Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1 "And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him." Day 5 of our October Surprise 2024 One of my most tremendous encouragements to increasing my faith is: "For when God made the promise to Abraham, since He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself, 14 saying, 'I WILL SURELY BLESS YOU, AND I WILL SURELY MULTIPLY YOU.' 15 And thus, having patiently waited, he obtained the promise. 16 For men swear by one greater than themselves, and with them an oath given as confirmation is an end of every dispute. 17 In the same way God, desiring even more to show to the heirs of the promise the unchangeableness of His purpose, interposed with an oath, 18 in order that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have strong encouragement, we who have fled for refuge in laying hold of the hope set before us. 19 This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil, 20 where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us, having become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek." Hebrews 6:13-20 Two immutable things: His promises His Character Our So What? Proverbs 15:8, Psalm 77:1, Psalm 86:1, and John 16:23-24 Reading verses such as those above, we know his character and promises are immutable, and we can trust them and pour our hearts out to him. Day 4 of our October Surprise! We saw yesterday Faith, Hope, and Love will Abide. They abide now and for eternity. How, though, do we know God, the God of the Bible, can bring about His glorious promises to us? Two witnesses today: 1. Power Unfathomable: The greatest injustice ever in the universe was the murder on the cross of Jesus the Messiah. The most glorious sacrifice ever given was Jesus' death on the cross for our eternal good. 2. Power Unimaginable: "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." Genesis 1:1 Our So what? The only true God, the triune God of the Bible, can bring the worst injustice and the most glorious sacrifice together for our good and His glory. The Only true God even claims He brought the vast, finished, balanced, precise, intricate, and immense universe into existence by His word. Who but the great I AM, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit deserves our adoration, thanksgiving, and trust? "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." Free Range Preacher on Prayer

Prayer is my personal testimony. Prayer brings us into a true fellowship and community, which, we like to say in my culture, brings us to a close bond with our holy God. He is Creator of the universe, which makes it awesome. He is our savior, which makes us humble and rejoicing; he's the sustainer of our lives, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This podcast tells of all the mercies and joys God has given me, undeserving as I am. But all those things were opened up by talking to him honestly and openly, which is the pinnacle of my day. It is all learned and begins with believing Him; his word is truth. "But now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love." 1 Corinthians 13:13 Faith, Hope, and Love. All three are gracious gifts from God. Just a tad: Faith in who God is gives us hope; our hope is given to us through His promises, and His gift of love frees us to ridiculously love our neighbors. "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?" 37 And He said to him, "'YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.' 38 "This is the great and foremost commandment. 39 "The second is like it, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.' 40 "On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets." Matthew 22:36-40 Our So What? If the greatest commandment is to love God and then to love our neighbors. And we know from the Good Samaritan story that anyone God brings into our sphere of influence is our neighbor… On what, then, do our prayers depend? Day 2 of our 2024 October Surprise: today, we trust the Holy Spirit to apply His word to our hearts, with minimum input from your host/principal. Our So What:? How might the following passages, given us by men moved by the Holy Spirit, inform our prayer concerns? "Many other signs, therefore, Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these have been written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name." John 20::30-31 "All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3:16-17 Thank You, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, for the ministry of prayer. Amen." 2 Timothy 4:18 This one verse helps us learn to pray as we walk through how using The Foundational Blocks of Biblical Prayer can lead us to find God, our circumstances, and how we might intercede to God for ourselves and others through a mega-comforting concept from the promises of God. As we mature in our Christian lives, our sins, even ones we thought were insignificant or not a sin at all, are ones we continually repent of. We learn from Paul, led by the Holy Spirit, to take great comfort in knowing:" The Lord will deliver me from every evil deed, and will bring me safely to His heavenly kingdom; to Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen." Even our own evil deeds, which can easily entangle us, are not beyond the reach of God's mercy. Let us give glory to God, whose mercies are deeper than our sins, and whose forgiveness is boundless. "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." Free Range Preacher on Prayer

Day 1 of our October surprise, this year, we focus on what the author of the Bible says to help sharpen our prayers. Our personal prayers and those we intercede for should be informed by the God-head, Biblically, the Holy Spirit. The witness of Scripture is that God should be the very heart of our lives, and we are designed and renewed to listen to the Holy Spirit for guidance in our prayers. The author of the Bible: "But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation, 2 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God." 2 Peter 1:20-21 It is His message to us. His message is loud and clear: "Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. 17 For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, 18 while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 Our focus is on the eternal and unseen. With the goal: "Therefore also we have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him." 2 Corinthians 5:9 Pleasing God for His name's sake. Our So What? We let the author of God's letter inform all our prayers. We kick off our introduction to our “October Surprise - 2024” by welcoming Romanian listeners and one other country to be named later. Thank you to all of you in Romania and all our new listeners. If we are to consider as serious, "Jesus answered, “The foremost is, ‘HEAR, O ISRAEL! THE LORD OUR GOD IS ONE LORD; 30 AND YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.’” We agree with Jeremiah Burroughs he concludes his second sermon, (on contentment) with this: “But upon that it is, that a gracious heart hath Contentment, he doth melt his Will into Gods, for saith he, If God have glory, I have glory, Gods glory is my glory, and therefore Gods will is mine; if God have riches, then I have riches; if God be magnified, then I am magnified; if God be satisfied, then I am satisfied; Gods wisdom and holiness is mine, and therefore his will must needs be mine, and my Will must needs be his; here is the Art of a Christians Contentment, he melts his Will into the Will of God, and makes over his Will to God, O Lord, thou shalt chuse (choose) our inheritance for us. Psalm 73.” Excerpted from “The Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment.” We also ask for prayer for my culture in putting our Creator and Savior central to our lives. Thank You for praying. We are back today to be tutored again by the Holy Spirit in the art of prayer, as directed through The Foundational Blocks of Biblical Prayer. As we diligently seek conversation with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we long today to find where God is, what of our lives we might find in, and how we might worship, confess, give thanks and request of our King, Savior, and Teacher through Psalm 102:11-16 "11 My days are like a lengthened shadow; And I wither away like grass. 12 But Thou, O LORD, dost abide forever; And Thy name to all generations. 13 Thou wilt arise and have compassion on Zion; For it is time to be gracious to her, For the appointed time has come. 14 Surely Thy servants find pleasure in her stones, And feel pity for her dust. 15 So the nations will fear the name of the LORD, And all the kings of the earth Thy glory. 16 For the LORD has built up Zion; He has appeared in His glory."
