Greg Gipson is a philanthropist who serves the members of the Ocean Springs community. His work includes work with non-profits such as the Elks Club, Lions Club, The Boys and Girls Club, and others. Greg stops by to talk about some of his latest work which includes the organization Krewe Unique. This organization was a grassroots organization established by members of the black community who sought to raise money for children of color, feeding the homeless, and even supporting city employees. Krewe Unique is also a Mardi Gras Krewe. This time of the year is Mardi Gras season. Krewe Unique has a Mardi Gras parade coming up, February 12,th, 2022. Greg has high school bands from up-state, and he even secured the Alcorn State University Marching Band for the parade—The Sounds of Dynomite and the Golden Girls. Greg and I chat about these things and others. Greg is a wonderful human being with a passion for community service. He’s a true servant leader, and someone who continues to serve those in need. Everyone welcome back to another episode of the Shop and Chivalry Podcast. My guest today is a former guest. Shea Dobson stops by to talk to us about many things. We talk about his mayorship, the election, and of course the Tennessee Titans!! Primarily we focus on his new organization, Citizens Alliance of Mississippi. Shea is a great dude with a heart of gold. His organization is fueled by such characteristics. Shea seeks to keep legislators accountable to citizens. The catalyst may have been initiative 65, but his purpose for the organization has to do with giving citizen voters a greater understanding of the people they elect to represent their interests. Insofar as he is successful, he’ll ultimately empower citizens to leverage the power of their vote and make the elected public servants work for the citizens. It’s an admirable goal. Shea is a wonderful dude and I love this guy. Everyone please welcome, Shea Dobson!!! Ladies and gentlemen, if you’re from South Mississippi, or you live in South Mississippi, you likely know my next guest. His name is Chet Landry. His beautiful face and wonderfully dressed self graces the WLOX Good Morning Mississippi stage. Alongside Chet is a star studded team which includes the wonderful Meggan Gray, meteorologist Wesley Williams, and the well-known field reporter, Bill Snyder. Chet is a self-described “Biloxi Boy”. He graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi where he studied criminal justice, and Chet also spent time in the entertainment industry. To be fair, it wasn’t a novice interest. He worked with Disney Creative Entertainment, Royal Caribbean, and worked in musicals at the Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World. My man Chet is born to entertain. I love this dude. We have a great conversation about the WLOX experience, his experience in entertainment, the pathway from criminal justice education to entertaining, and just being from the coast. I hope you all enjoy this episode. Hope is irrelevant here. I know you will enjoy this eppy! Everyone please welcome, Chet Landry! Everyone welcome back to another episode! Today's guest is a fortune of energy. Katie Weldon serves as Programming Director at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce, which serves more than 950 businesses and more than 50,000 employees along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. As if that wasn't enough, Katie is also the current serving President of an amazing women's organization, The Junior Auxiliary of Biloxi-Ocean Springs--JABOS, as it's more affectionately called. This organization leverages the talent, tenacity, and strength of the southern woman to make major impact in the Biloxi-Ocean Springs area. I know many of these women involved and there is no shortage of capability in any part of this organization. Katie has cultivated an amazing team. Some of the work of JABOS impacts the relationship between parent and child. JABOS works to ease the transition from hospital bed to home bed by providing car seats and even clothing to place the child in clothes, rather than hospital garb. JABOS also does a fantastic job of emphasizing long term health by battling obesity at a grassroots level. Their eight month training program capstones with participation in the Ocean Springs Historical Society's Kid's One-Mile Fun Run. These are just a couple of programs of JABOS. Their impact is much greater. Check out www.JABOS.org for more information or to become a member. Katie and I talk about JABOS, her life as a new mother, and other social issues. Her energy is infectious. I had a wonderful time talking to this amazing woman. I hope you all enjoy!!!…
Hey there and welcome back to another eppy. This (relatively) short episode is with a man named Justin Patricoff. Justin works for Wahl. WAHL makes clippers and trimmer for people and also animals. He is down on the Gulf Coast for the Red White and Blueberry Festival in Ocean Springs. A man in Ocean Springs won a $20k prize for his epic beard, so WAHL decided to come down with their mobile barber shop and some very talented master groomers to give free trimmings to the beards and mustaches of Ocean Springs. In fact, for every trim given, WAHL will donate $100 to the 1720 foundation. This foundation exists to cover unexpected costs of adoption for people. Why this organization? Because the winner of that beard contest used his prize money to cover the exorbitant costs of adoption. Their child arrived home in April. We talk about beards, WAHL, and the male beard movement. It’s a fun conversation, that focuses on WAHL, Ocean Springs, and the Red White and Blue festival. Everyone please welcome, Justin Patricoff!!! Today I speak with Sarah Beaugez. Sarah is an Ocean Springs native, an author, and a photographer of some of the most beautiful photos representing our great state. Sarah has traveled the state extensively. Through those travels she engages the wide array of citizens which inhabit this magnolia state. She even wrote a book about it called Encounters off the Beaten Path; a Book of Southern Short Stories. Sarah has a command of the English language and a talent for story telling. These stories highlight the amazing variability of friends along the coast, and throughout the state, while also explaining the impact each and every one of these interactions has on Sarah. In this book she grows through those interactions—a lesson we should all relearn. Sarah, through her work, tells a story of Mississippi. She highlights what is the essence of this state. The love, the beauty, and even the past pains. Sarah also is working on a project to highlight the impact of poor citizens in the state also participating in the cotton industry alongside the slaves of this state. A painful past indeed. Sarah and I talk about these subjects and more. She is a wonderful spirit and I’m thrilled to have her on the show. Everyone please welcome, Sarah Beaugez!!! Today my guest is Greg Gipson. Greg has been on the podcast before. We spoke a few months ago as the elections in Ocean Springs were gaining steam. Greg is running for alderman in the busy race of Ward 1. Greg is an Ocean Springs native. He has a passion for community and his work throughout his life reflects as much. He spends much of his time in philanthropic work. We discuss this in this episode and go into more detail in our previous discussion. Greg and I chat about his ward and the elections too. Greg has spent his time not just campaigning, but acting as an Alderman. He shares numerous stories about fixing problems that residents have after meeting them. He’s showing, very clearly, that he is capable of being the alderman for ward 1. Greg and I also discuss the ugly side of the campaign trail. This leads to a meaningful discussion which includes topics surrounding race and other minority issues. It’s an unfortunate reality. It’s a shame the current political atmosphere derails conversations about actual ideas and issues and focuses on labels, race, and other trivial subjects. Greg is a wonderful man with a vigor for helping people. Y’all are definitely going to enjoy this episode. Everyone please welcome, Greg Gipson!!! Welcome back everybody! My guest today is Cynthia Dobbs Sutton. Cynthia is the director of the Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce Mainstreet Tourism Bureau. She also co-hosts the Ocean Springs Community Live Show, with Sarah Qarqish. Sarah is the director of the Mary C. Cynthia and I talk about our wonderful city of Ocean Springs and the many exciting things we have to do in the town. I learned that the Chamber of commerce isn’t a government entity. Rather, it is a non-profit working closely with city leaders and businesses to create economic sustainability and improve the already stunning business climate we have in Ocean Springs. She’s a fantastic personality and I hope she starts her own podcast one day!! I’m thrilled to bring this episode to you. Everyone please welcome, Cynthia Dobbs Sutton. ""Some Place Else" is the story of an out of body experience I had while I was in a coma for 23 days. This autobiographical work leaves readers questioning the existence of their immortal soul" Ladies and gentlemen, today I speak with Patrick Mooney. Patrick Mooney has written an incredible book. The book is called Someplace Else. It’s not heaven or hell; it’s just someplace else. The story is about Patrick’s unbelievable and miraculous story enduring a brain aneurism which put him in a coma. In that coma he experienced the pains of a past he did not experience, the present in a metaphor, and the future—which came true. His retelling of the story is incredible. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the Shop and Chivalry Podcast. Today I talk with a good friend of mine, Joshua Toellner. Joshua is one of the brightest, most hilarious, outgoing, and loving people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Mr. Toellner and I met in South Georgia, where we were stationed as air traffic controllers. We have numerous similarities. We both started in maintenance, we promoted at the same time, we share similar views on organizational management, use of technology within organizations, and the overall profession of arms. We have our political, ideological differences, but that has never affected our interactions. In fact, Josh and I have a strength of being able to talk about difficult things from an open-minded and vulnerable perspective. We discovered the recipe for true open, mutual discourse. Josh and I bonded over a terrible organizational structure in South Georgia. From Machiavellian tyrants seeking to influence the operation of an organization through subversive means, to witnessing the physiological effects of poor management and leadership, and even having to help people avoid killing themselves due to the poor working conditions. Our outward care for our fellow peers, devotion to our job, and willingness to sacrifice ourselves to help keep others sane—much less alive—yielded us a brotherhood we will never lose. Josh and I talk about many things. We discuss the role of race and gender in the Air Force, we talk about our experiences in South Georgia and the life that follows. We have a few laughs along the way as well. He’s one of my favorite humans alive. I love this dude. Everyone please welcome, Joshua Toellner!! Ladies and Gentlemen, I have another election episode for you today. My guest today is Melanie Allen. She is running for mayor and she will face Kenny Holloway in the runoff on April 27th. I wanted to have both candidates present for a discussion about Ocean Springs. Unfortunately, Kenny declined due to an already full schedule. In any case, Melanie have a fun discussion. I asked questions posed by many of you and we also just have a candid conversation about Ocean Springs. Melanie is an accomplished woman who is skilled in business and public service. Her accolades and accomplishments speak to as much. She shows grace and poise despite what has been an unfair attack on her character by a gestapo-like effort to marginalize her as a woman, a public servant, and a qualified candidate for the city’s highest title. The elections have shown me despite the darkness of these big statement from small minds, integrity, competence, and strength will always persevere. I’m happy to have Melanie on again. The entire election series began with our conversation months ago. I’m thrilled to host this wonderful woman again, and I’m even more thrilled I found such an amazing friend. Everyone please welcome, Melanie Allen. #podcast #podcasting #podcasts #spotify #applepodcasts #apple #Google #googlepodcasts #stitcher #radio #podcastersofinstagram #podcastlife #podcaster #interview #election #cityofOceanSprings #OceanSprings #Coastlife #mississippi #gulfcoast #republican #smalltown #southernliving #culture #art #MaryC #interview #election…
Everyone welcome back to another episode. We’re still in the election cycle here in Ocean Springs. While the primary election has passed, the runoff is well underway. As such, my good friend Doug Walker decided to stop by. Doug is in a runoff race in ward 3. Doug and I chat about the experience thus far, campaigning in a COVID environment, and his passion he holds in the belief that he is the right person—the best person—to serve ward 3 as an alderman. We spend an unusual amount talking about roads. I think it surprised both of us! Doug also talks about some of his frustrations about the nasty side of campaigning in this divisive, dagger-throwing election system. The awful, arguably unprofessional, behavior exhibited at the federal level during elections has obviously permeated the entire hierarchy of elected officials. Doug is my first repeat guest and I had a blast talking to him. He’s a wonderful man with a great sense of humor. He is direct. He is well-informed. While that makes for a formidable person to conversate with, Doug is at heart a grounded, loving, good natured man who simply wants to continue to serve this community. I’m honored he is seeking a seat as one of the board of alderman. Everyone please welcome, Doug Walker. #podcast #podcasting #podcasts #spotify #applepodcasts #apple #Google #googlepodcasts…
My guest today is a member of the United States Air Force, and a recruiter too. Technical Sergeant (TSgt) Christen Andrews is a recruiter for the Air Force in South Mississippi. He’s a former air transportation technician. In the Air Force, recruiting is a special assignment. Anyone, from any career field, can be a recruiter. After is 3-4 years, he’ll return to his job. For now, he’s a recruiter conveying the Air Force mission and purpose to anyone who may be interested. TSgt Andrews is more than a recruiter; he’s more than an air transportation tech; he’s more than an Airman. We talk about his time during childhood where he was raised alongside nearly 10 brothers and sisters under the strict rule of a Marine father. We have a great laugh about his experience surrounding smuggling candy. He discusses his own anger issues and his work to get to the bottom of those issues while in the service. Those issues nearly cost him his career. Truly, he potentially could not be in the service today if not for the work of his superiors who saw something special in him. Christen is responsible for a viral video about the Air Force. His production prowess came to realization with his viral acceptance of his video of #TeamBlue. His video was reshared by headquarters Air Force and the Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force. TSgt Andrews is well spoken and carries with him the stature of a giant, and a leader. He’s formidable at first glance, but is also calm and welcoming. It was a pleasure to sit and talk with him. He also shows the complexity of humans and how we are constantly in a state of change and improvement. I found comfort in how relatable that is. I felt as though I’ve known this dude for years and I think that comes off in the interview. I hope you all enjoy the episode! I’ve watched it twice since I recorded it!!!!! Everyone, please welcome, TSgt Christen Andrews. The views, opinions, and attitudes contained in this interview are those of the individuals present and do not in any way reflect the views, opinions, and attitudes of the United States Air Force, Department of Defense, or the Federal Government in any way, explicitly or implied. #podcast #podcasting #podcasts…
Everyone welcome back to another episode highlighting the star-studded talent in Ocean Springs. Today I talk with a legend of public office in the City of Discovery. Fred “Chic” Cody, is running as a mayor for Ocean Springs. He’s been a faithful servant to this city for about a quarter century. He’s served alongside like-minded peers and mayors and those not-so like-minded. He was part of the administration which converted the downtown area into the tourist draw that has been award winning and inviting to so many people. He’s been a part of the community wishing to proliferate the arts and culture scene. Chic is a republican, but his forward thinking perspective is anything but conservative (in the a-political sense). Chic has vision for Ocean Springs which seeks to capitalize on current and future growth. He seeks to bring clean industry here which will benefit the entire coast. He has ideas to promote free enterprise in East Ocean Springs as well as downtown. That’s the benefit of a man who has served for so long. He has experience across the continuum of time. He’s seen good policy and bad policy. Those are vectors towards the right policies—policies grounded in relevance and predictability of outcomes. I enjoyed sitting down with Chic. He’s a wonderful guy with a great perspective on this city and her future. Brandon grew up on a farm in Tennessee. He attended Law School at Ole Miss (his fault, not mine). LOL. Thanks to a familiar Ocean Springs native, fellow graduate of OS High, and former Miss Mississippi, Marie Wicks, Brandon was sold on what Ocean Springs had to offer. Brandon brings the principles of empathy, hard work, meaningful understanding, and getting things right as the pillars of his political philosophy. Brandon is focused on issues that other candidates do not. For example, Ocean Springs dominates the state in many things, but inclusion is not one of them. According to the Human Rights Campaign, Ocean Springs—as diverse as it is—scores a measly 4/100 in its inclusion policies and practices!! Biloxi scores a 30. Brandon isn’t advocating a dogmatic approach to fixing this. Rather, he brings it up as an existential talking point whereby we can begin to examine ourselves as a city to make sure are promoting the diversity we seem so proud to talk about. Brandon also wishes to look at our coastlines and plan for sustainable projects which help protect against hurricanes and erosion. While that seems obvious, projects such as the swales and sidewalk along our beaches appear to say something else entirely, in my opinion. Brandon and I have a meaningful conversation about these topics and more. He’s a wonderful guy, and he’d be an asset to ward one and the city of Ocean Springs. Everyone, welcome back to another episode of the Shop and Chivalry Podcast!! Today I have a very special conversation with someone who speaks my language! Running for alderman in ward 6 is Melanie Milburn. She’s a native of the gulf coast, a graduate of Southern Mississippi, and a former Air Force colonel who spent 25 years in the service. We chat about her time in the Air Force and what that unique experience brings to ward 6 and Ocean Springs. People with passion speak differently about those passions. You can tell because the passion comes out in the speech of the individual when the subject comes up. My guest today speaks with that same passion. In his own words, “a loud, boisterous, opinionated guy”, Michael Bryant talks about Ocean Springs in a way that only he can. Mike is a resident of ward one and he is running as a candidate for alderman of ward 1. At first glance, he may strike you as intimidating with his stature, and his command of voice. Yet, he is very reasonable and willing to discuss virtually any issue. We show that on the podcast. We talk about many issues in the city and have a bit of debate here and there. At the end of the day, Mike is a wonderful human with passion for growing the city and improving what we currently have in Ocean Springs. We have a great time on this episode, and I know you all will enjoy it as well. Everyone please welcome, Michael Bryant!! Good day to you all. The election episodes are rolling!! Everyone, thank you for joining me again for another episode. Today I talk to Greg Gipson. Grep is running for Alderman in ward 1. When I was connected with Greg, I was told he is a charming, polite, genuine human being, committed to helping others. One could think he was just getting talked up, but after talking to him, I found out that wasn’t the case. He has built a professional career through his work in philanthropic organizations. Philanthropy ranks rather high for me. See, my own work in philanthropy has taught me to be a better team mate, leader, and friend. For Greg, someone who has much success in his story of helping others, his decision to run as a representative of his town is a huge benefit for the residents of ward 1 and Ocean Springs. Greg knows what its like to manage a shoestring budget while creating an open and engaging environment so that creative ideas can emerge to get the most production out of that shoestring budget. He understands leading an organization with vision and purpose is key to a long lasting, enduring organization. Greg understands that the people involved are united to a common purpose, and that united effort is the vehicle by which the organization moves towards that vision. That’s what Greg Gipson brings to the table in this election. I had a wonderful time chatting with Greg. I can confirm he’s a wonderful man with great ideas for the city. Everyone, please welcome, Greg Gipson Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGi403-O3k8KjLsW2F9B4sg Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/.../the-shop-and.../id1526999566 Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/search/shop%20and%20chivalry Stitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/.../the-shop-and-chivalry-podcast Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/01tJfhWvQv5fAvzPn4vPZQ https://www.shopandchivalry.com #podcast #podcasting #podcasts #spotify #applepodcasts #apple #Google #googlepodcasts #stitcher #radio #podcastersofinstagram #podcastlife #podcaster #interview #election #cityofOceanSprings #OceanSprings #Coastlife #mississippi #gulfcoast #independent #smalltown #southernliving #culture #art…
Good day everyone, and welcome back to another episode! This is an election episode for the people of Ocean Springs, MS. Today I speak with a resident of Ocean Springs whom I went to school with. Matt Stebly is a local artist and business owner running for Alderman at large for Ocean Springs. He has deep ties to the art and culture in the city, as he is the great-grandson of Walter Anderson. Walter Anderson’s work has graced buildings, clothing, murals, and sculptures across the gulf coast. Matt is a tattoo artist by trade. He infuses the Walter Anderson style into the living canvas of skin. Matt has a shop downtown—Twisted Anchor Tattoo. When you walk in you’ll notice less of a traditional tattoo shop and more of an art studio. Matt’s journey to have a tattoo shop in downtown Ocean Springs was no easy battle. He fought the line of thinking that can sometime plague the city. Old norms and grounded beliefs predicated on practical understanding from years past, not evolving to provide modern understanding. Matt represents a change to that. Matt is an amazing guy with an endless amount of talent. He’s well spoken, grounded, and carries a calming, yet encouraging, stoic demeanor. We had a great chat about all things Ocean Springs and I hope you all enjoy learning about Matt! Everyone welcome back to the show! Today I speak with the ward 4, sitting alderman, for Ocean Springs. Ken is a down to Earth gentleman who served more than 30 years in the United States Army. He reached the elite rank of Colonel. Ken is a native of Ocean Springs for over 40 years as well. This residency through time gives him a unique perspective on change in Ocean Springs. He’s used his experience in the Army and city government, coupled with his experience, to keep his ward running smooth and serving the citizens of Ocean Springs. Ken is easy to talk to. I found him approachable and easy to conversate with. While speaking with him on air and off, I felt the sense that I could come to him with any problem. To reach the rank of Colonel, only confirms that feeling, for me at least. We told battle stories of our times in the service. With the cameras and recording equipment off, we also talked about our separate experiences in the special operations community. It was a good chat! Ken and I talk about issues in his ward and the city. I’m excited he is running and I can’t wait to hear more from Ken. Everyone, please welcome my friend, Ken Papania!! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGi403-O3k8KjLsW2F9B4sg Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-shop-and-chivalry-podcast/id1526999566 Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/search/shop%20and%20chivalry Stitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/the-shop-and-chivalry-podcast Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/01tJfhWvQv5fAvzPn4vPZQ https://www.shopandchivalry.com #podcast #podcasting #podcasts #spotify #applepodcasts #apple…
Everyone, welcome to another election episode! My guest today is mayoral candidate. Summer Devrow is woman with a history of public service. Most recently she worked in the Public Works department for the city of Ocean Springs. Before that, she was a crossing guard helping children get to and from school. Summer is a loyal, highly productive, hardworking, and principled woman. Summer came to Ocean Springs after a fishing trip. As the story goes, they came into shore from a deep-sea sport fishing trip and refueled in Ocean Springs. Just by the view of the Harbor Summer was hooked. She sold her house in Louisiana and moved down shortly thereafter. We discuss her passions for this city and the principles which help her navigate throughout the world. I’m stoked to have had the opportunity to meet Summer. She’s a great candidate for our city. Welcome back to another show. My guest may surprise you. Over the previous four years, this administration leading Ocean Springs has come into a few controversies. Two stick out. The Mary C. debacle and the unity March. A voice often heard with city leaders is my guest today, Elizabeth Feder-Hosey. Elizabeth Feder-Hosey is an attorney specializing in child welfare cases. She has a tenacity for getting things right. She felt compelled to take a stand on issues relating to the Mary C. She was treated a bit unfairly, in my opinion. The woman I saw in my studio is a class act. She’s well informed, well spoken, and formidable in her ability to develop sound arguments around issues she’s passionate about. Elizabeth has some wonderful ideas about Ocean Springs and I’m confident she possesses the ability to reconcile the divide between philanthropic organizations wanting to make the arts successful in Ocean Springs, and the city. In my opinion, this is absolutely necessary. The arts in this city are part of the soul and spirit of this wonderful town. She harkens back to her graciousness for the Friends Board of Directors, past and present who have done so much for Arts and Culture in our community. Everyone please welcome, Elizabeth Feder-Hosey #podcast #podcasting #podcasts #spotify #applepodcasts #apple #Google #googlepodcasts…
Everyone this is an election episode and I have the please of introducing Mike Impey. Keep in mind, Mike has an exclusive for Ocean Springs. For those who don’t know, Mike gives us info not found anywhere else!!! It’s about east Ocean Springs and we’re stoked!! Mike is a grounded, well thought-out member of a community invested in the future of Ocean Springs as if it was his own house. He seeks to grow Ocean Springs while maintaining the value that motivated him to raise a family here. I had a wonderful time talking to him and I know you all will have a wonderful time listening. Everyone, my guest today is Kenny Holloway. Kenny is a well-rounded guy with an understanding of multiple government layers and a high acuity of property development. He is a developer after all. Kenny and I talk about his views on all things Ocean Springs. Responsible development is the low-hanging fruit. However, Kenny talks about Ocean Springs as an art and culture epicenter of the coast and the Mary C. as the art and culture epicenter for Ocean Springs. Kenny has a great perspective and a command of voice that gives me confidence in his leadership. I’m stoked he’s running and I think he’s got a humble and responsible perspective, where the citizens of Ocean Springs are the greatest benefactors. You’ll love this episode!! Everybody welcome back to another election eppy!! Today I sit with someone I grew up down the street from; I went to high school with his boys; and I even worked with his wife at Keesler. Jeff Mortenson is a vet and continues to serve in civil service. He’s had a lifetime in the profession of serving the American people. It should be of no surprise he wishes to continue his service at the bedrock of American democracy—the local municipality. Jeff is running for Alderman in ward 5. Jeff has been living in ward 5 since I was in elementary school. He’s a great dude with a passion for responsible change in Ocean Springs. We have a great conversation and I’m certain you all will enjoy it. Everyone, please welcome, Jeff Mortenson. Ladies and Gents, do I have an episode for you! My good friend, John Tisue was in town and graciously gave me the opportunity to chat with him. John is an Air Traffic Controller in the Air Force. Now, this isn’t going to be an ATC conversation. Very little has to do with ATC. Rather, it’s a conversation about traveling, management, leadership, mentorship, and even a reflection on an assignment where we had vastly different experiences. Overall it’s a discussion from two buddies catching up over a few beers, while chatting over meaningful topics we both care about deeply. It’s humorous; it’s revealing; it’s a damn good time!! Everyone, please welcome, John Tisue.…
I have another episode here covering the elections in Ocean Springs. In local elections, you’re really tapping into the citizenry of the local population. As Ocean Springs is a culturally and artistically diverse city, so too are the citizens. Many of those within the city are very talented artists, themselves. Robert Blackman is one of those individuals. Robert is a musical talent who still plays—well in a non-pandemic environment. His band is called the $2 beers. Robert is a friendly man with a friendly candor. He’s easy to sit down with. It honestly felt as though I was just catching up with an old friend, despite meeting him in person only once before. Robert is an incumbent Alderman. His ward is ward 5. Robert speaks with the tongue of passion for his ward. I’m always amazed at how simple conversations can evoke purpose out of their words. Robert feels purpose for his ward and his city in the way he speaks. It’s quite comforting. Robert and I talk about all of the key issues in a city with unlimited potential for beauty and artistic exploration. You’re going to have a blast listening to this one. Everyone please welcome, Robert Blackman!…
My guest today is Jennifer Burgess. Jennifer is a resident of Ward 1. We. Have. A. BLAST!! This was one of my favorite podcasts. We talk about all of the key issues in Ocean Springs, and Jennifer is a fun—albeit determined—woman with some wonderful ideas for Ocean Springs. Beginning with the simple service of serving on the Fort Bayou Estates Board, she is no stranger to starting initiatives and seeing them through. Her continued work earned her an endorsement from the longest serving Alderman in the state of Mississippi. Jennifer understands the need for the city to be the aid in times such as COVID. Jennifer’s perspective stems from a dedication to her constituents. She is dead-set on her voice being a voice of those she represents. In her own words, “It isn’t about what I want; it’s about what the citizens want.” In an age of politicians claiming to know more than citizens do, that sentiment is comforting. We touch on the hot topics, but Jennifer sells herself. She’s a grounded woman with a spirit that stems from true love of her community. This is self-evident. I’m happy to have Jennifer on the podcast and she is also the easiest podcast guest EVER!!. She transitioned the show herself lol. I said it on the podcast, she could have her own podcast and do very well. I digress. Y’all will enjoy this!!!…
Another Ocean Springs Election Episode!!! A native of Louisiana, Rickey stumbled upon the quiet town of Ocean Springs many years ago. He fell in love with it. When his job would bring him back to Louisiana, he left that job and returned to Ocean Springs—as the prodigal son does. Rickey evokes a passion for this town through our conversation. He’s fiscally conservative, but acknowledges and appreciates the weave of culture, art, and nature as the hammock by which this city rests. Our discussion includes the key topics of Ocean Springs. We discuss east Ocean Springs, executive session, The Mary C, downtown, annexation, etc. Keep in mind, Rickey is an incumbent. Therefore, his perspective is very much informed. You’ll notice that when we talk about topics such as executive session. Overall, Rickey is a genuine dude with a great attitude towards life and this city. Ward 2, and the rest of Ocean Springs, are so lucky to have someone like Rickey to pick as a representative for their way of life. Everyone please welcome, Rickey Authement. ***In the interest of full disclosure and wishing to remove contextual confusion please read the following: At a moment in the podcast, Rickey is describing the operators of the historic and significant doughnut restaurant, Tatonut as “[being] Ocean Springs”. Rickey and I want to point out, He isn’t describing Tatonut as being THE business representation of Ocean Springs, in spite of the other businesses. That is not at all correct. Rather, Rickey is describing the business owners, such as those operating Tatonut, as the alumni of business owners in downtown Ocean Springs which weather economic storms, and maintain the small business allure that helps keep Ocean Springs beautiful and shop-able--for generations. Those downtown businesses ARE Ocean Springs. That’s the point he’s making. Thanks!***…
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to another edition of the election coverage for Ocean Springs!!! Today I interview a legend of the local news. Doug Walker has been serving south Mississippi for more than 30 years. He's also running for ward 3 alderman in Ocean Springs. Doug has interviewed a sitting President, and he's also covered a UFO sighting from a game camera in Vancleave. Doug is a tenured resident of Ocean Springs with a love of this city. We talk about key issues of Ocean Springs ranging from the preservation of trees and the arts, to solving traffic on highway 90, and responsible growth--among other topics. Doug is a well spoken resident with a passion for truth-seeking and principled leadership. You're going to enjoy this episode. Everyone please welcome, Doug Walker.…
Everyone welcome to one of the most exciting shows I've had the pleasure of hosting. Alexis "Lexi" Williams is an Air Force vet, a former air traffic controller, local community ambassador, advocate for minority business owners, and the owner of Aloha Glamour--recipient of Beyoncé's Bey-good impact fund. Alexis talks with us about her clothing brand, her push to highlight black business in South Mississippi, and her impetus for creating the business in the first place. This was a very meaningful episode for me. Alexis suffered a terrible tragedy. She lost a child, and her pain was unfortunately extended due to people incapable or unwilling to empathize with that loss. She channeled that frustration into motivation. Her daughter would become the lifeblood of purpose for Aloha Glamour where she would find inspiration to combine the rich, vibrant culture of Hawaii, with her roots of a black woman from the south into the image of an "Afrowaiian" Queen that his her daughter. Alexis' work is one of tribute to a daughter lost. She lives through her daughter. Her love manifests a legacy for her daughter--one of energy, color, culture, and confidence. This is not just the legacy of Alexis. Aloha Glamour is the legacy of her daughter as well. Everyone, please welcome, Alexis Williams.…
Meet Melanie Allen. Melanie is running for mayor of the great American town of Ocean Springs in 2021. Melanie is a republican with an understanding for community involvement, economic growth, and an unwillingness to sacrifice the sanctities of art for the two previously mentioned topics. While hailing from the northeast, Melanie is a coast native. A born “Maine-iac” Melanie found a love of the coast after a recommendation from a client to engage this wonderful, creative, enigmatic town of Ocean Springs. Melanie and I talk about our love for the gulf coast. We talk about her experience investing in South Mississippi through her work with the Pascagoula Audubon Center. Historic Ocean Springs Association, and staunch supporter of the cultural impact of Ocean Springs. She has been awarded the Ocean Springs Canopy Award, the Gulf Coast Caring Woman of the Year, Volunteer of the year by the Land Trust organization, as well as the 2019 recipient of the Key to the City of Ocean Springs, presented by Mayor Shae Dobson. Melanie, from my perspective, is a saint to the City of Ocean Springs. We talk about her politics, her vision, her guiding light, and herself. Melanie is a wonderful human being with an endless empath. I’m honored to have such a talented woman taking on the task of running American’s greatest little town. Please welcome, Melanie Allen!…
Everyone welcome back to another episode of the shop and chivalry podcast!!! Today I talk with a lifelong, passionate educator of little humans. Not so little actually. Carolyn Price is a mathematical educator of teens in high school. She exudes a confidence and passion in her craft. I can certainly attest to her passion. Ms. Price influenced me to be introspective before I understood what it meant to be introspective. Years later I realized her impact on me, and I'm not sure she knew how impactful her words were. In any case, Ms. Price and I have a wonderful conversation about teaching, mentorship, and just connecting with our youngest members of our society. You'll certainly enjoy this episode. Everyone please welcome, Ms. Carolyn Price!…

Everyone, my guest today is Jeff Collins. Jeff is the chief nurse at the VA hospital in South Mississippi. Jeff is also a hobby farmer, but that's probably just a humble self-description he gave me. In reality. Jeff is an intelligent, highly capable man with an affinity for learning and the trades. You're going to love this one. We talk about the history of West Virginia, his time as a nurse, healthcare as an industry and a business, COVID, and many other tradeswork topics. Saddle up everyone. It's a blast!!! Please welcome Jeff Collins.…
Hey there everybody! This is the 11th episode!! Can you believe it?! In this episode I chat with Christine Walck. I start out strong calling her by her maiden name; I'm an idiot, not a dead-namer. Christine is a talented architect and wonderful person. She is a wonderful person, full of life. Her home exudes as much. Christine's daughter, Laurel joins us as well. It wasn't intentional to have a 6 month old on, but it was a fun experience! Hope you all enjoy. We had a blast.…

We cover many subjects today and it took a turn for the emotional. He's a wonderful spirit and one of my favorite humans. Please welcome, Zak Ducote!…

We live in a city and we often don't pay much mind to the powers at be. Life just continues. It just "is". My guest today is a mayor of arguably the greatest city in the state. It's a city that has won its share of accolades for being an ideal place to live and a place that is the ideal American small town. It is rich of culture, art, and welcoming of all.
