We’ll unpack some of the top Christianese phrases, why they’re problematic, and how to communicate the gospel more clearly — just like Jesus did. In This Episode, You’ll Learn: How the language we use as a church shapes our culture and perception The Top 10 Christianese words or phrases and what they really mean What our words say to those outside the Church — and how to rethink them Practical steps to grow in gospel fluency and speak more clearly about faith Get started here... From this episode: “The Bible and our Christian faith are all relevant… unless we shroud everything in insider language and weird terms that others can’t understand or it puts them off. Jesus spoke in everyday language because he saw his relationship with his Father (and ours) as a normal part of life as a human. The difference between introverts and extroverts is one of the most misunderstood aspects of personality. So many people get it wrong, leading to myths and assumptions that just don’t hold up. In this episode of the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we’re setting the record straight. We’ll break down the biggest misconceptions and uncover how both introverts and extroverts play a vital role in living together as a family on mission. The truth is, we all have moments when we crave solitude and quiet—Jesus certainly did. And at times, even the most introverted among us step into social settings and engage with others—just like Jesus often did. Understanding this balance is key to thriving together. In This Episode You'll Learn : How introversion has nothing to do with “being shy” Why extroverts don’t always have to be the life of the party How spouses that are on opposite ends of this can better understand each other Ways culture has taught us to hide our self-love behind these distinctions Why we need each other to be more fully like Jesus and make disciples Get started here… From this episode: "Remember, whether introverted or extroverted God has gifted you differently than others AND he knows who will be a good fit for you relationally. Let God lead you to those “people of peace” who will love you for who you are. Extroverts are great for drawing a crowd, and introverts are more naturally drawn to fewer folks but go deeper into relationship. We need both in our missional communities." Are we hearing impaired when it comes to the voice of God? Could it be that what we believe and have labeled as relational, emotional, and spiritual problems are actually 'hearing' problems? Evangelism has almost become a dirty word in our culture. Sadly, it’s not all that different in many churches. We either go all-in with enthusiasm only to find that most people aren’t interested, or we’ve quietly given up on it altogether. But what if we’re missing the heart of evangelism? In this episode of the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we’ll define what true biblical evangelism is (and what it’s not) while uncovering the 7 worst evangelism mistakes Christians make today. Even when we’re confident in our faith and what the Bible teaches, how we communicate and carry ourselves speaks volumes about who God is. God isn’t pushy—he’s patient. He’s gentle, loving, and always available. Our approach to evangelism should reflect that same heart. In This Episode You’ll Learn: What the Bible actually teaches about evangelism. Are all Christians called to be evangelists? Why so many believers are looking for ways to “opt out” of evangelizing. The 7 biggest evangelism mistakes today—and a better way forward. Get started here… From this episode: “Believe it or not, most people are very open to having spiritual conversations. But it must be in the right context, at the right time, and we must have the right heart posture in order for it to truly be a conversation that others want to participate in… and maybe revisit over time. Asking more questions and listening well–especially at the beginning of a relationship–is a lot more important than trying to “win” the conversation on the spot.” Each week the Big 3 will give you immediate action steps to get you started. Men's and women's ministries have been separated in the church for years. But the church is a family. And when we disciple together, as a family in community, we experience deeper discipleship in every area of life. In this episode of the Everyday Disciple Podcast, Caesar is joined by his wife Tina, and their friend and fellow disciple-maker, Barb Terry. He gets their perspective on women and discipleship. Are there differences? We find out that the answer is both "yes" and "no". In This Episode You’ll Learn: Why the church has traditionally separated men and women. The importance of women finding their "sisterhood" within community. Can women be effectively discipled by men? Why understanding our gospel identity leads to freedom for both women and men. Get started here… From this episode: "We are all completely uniquely created, designed by God. We're here for a purpose. We're not just here to get by or survive or get stuff done, we get to live our lives in a way that glorifies God, and it shows people what he is like. Living in that reality, in the truth of our gospel identity, changes what we have to do into what we get to do. Yeah. We're totally free to be whatever God created us to be." We all have hidden idols—big and small. An idol is anything that takes God’s place in your heart, absorbs your imagination, or promises what only He can give. This week on the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we’re tackling the four root idols: control, approval, comfort, and power. You’ll learn how to identify and destroy them in your life. Idols today aren’t statues or totems—they’re far more subtle. Listen when your heart says, “If I just had that, then my life would have meaning… then I’d feel valuable, significant, or secure.” In This Episode You’ll Learn: A clear, practical definition of what idols look like in our lives. One of the biggest reasons Christians hesitate to talk about their faith is the fear of sounding weird or being hit with tough questions they can’t answer. Others feel like they have to “win” people over, and if they don’t, they’ve somehow failed. This week on the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we’ll unpack why treating evangelism like a spiritual tug-of-war isn’t the way to go. In fact, apologetics often makes for poor evangelism—no one has ever been “argued” into the Kingdom! Apologetics is valuable for defending our faith within Christian communities, but it’s not the best tool for engaging those outside the Church. And when we do discuss differences—especially with fellow believers—we’re called to do so with gentleness and respect. Before jumping into any debate, let’s make sure our hearts are in the right place. In This Episode You’ll Learn: A clear understanding of apologetics and the true purpose of evangelism Two distinct approaches to starting faith conversations The real value of apologetics within Christian communities Why Jesus didn’t rely on tricks, tactics, or arguments to reveal his Father Get started here... From this episode: “While apologetic and evangelistic methods are important and may at times be helpful, the Bible does not attribute the success of the gospel to human rhetoric or strategy. It is the Gospel that has the power to set people free and restore relationships–not our methods or perfectly crafted arguments!” Each week the Big 3 will give you immediate action steps to get you started. If you're a pastor, much of what fills your week may not be bearing the fruit you think. It’s easy to get stuck on a hamster wheel of tasks—some self-imposed, others added by others—that drain your energy and resources over time. This week on the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we’re exploring why most leaders should STOP doing 80% of what they’re currently doing. You may be facing your biggest opportunity yet to reset your schedule and refocus disciple-making in your church. In This Episode You’ll Learn: Why doing less may be the key to your church’s future. The difference between physical exhaustion and emotional depletion. How to identify your true values and what truly motivates you. Practical steps to create your "stop-doing list." Get started here… From this episode: " We all have only so much physical time and capacity, but we also have a limited supply of emotional capacity to spend each day and week. The word “missional” isn’t outdated or irrelevant. It still means living with a radical focus on making disciples of Jesus in everyday life—our unchanging mission as the church. This week on the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we’re tackling the distractions that pull leaders away from a true “missional mindset.” We’ll explore why a consistent discipleship focus matters, especially if you’re a pastor or leading a missional community. In This Episode You’ll Learn: How your view of the gospel shapes your mindset and focus. Why discipleship is not something just preached about on Sunday. 10 ways people with a missional mindset live and lead. How our language impacts what others think Christianity is about. Get started here… From this episode: “People with a missional mindset are careful to use language that makes sense to normal people and helps to reinforce the mission of disciple-making, rather than sound like a seminary class or using a special language about the gospel that almost no one else can replicate in normal life with others. And they seek to have their preaching fuel discipleship–not behavioral modification. In fact, their preaching and services are all a part of discipleship and equipping for the same.” Each week the Big 3 will give you immediate action steps to get you started. It can be difficult to do in ways that show the love of God. This week on the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we discuss how to do church discipline in a way that heals and restores… instead of just “handing people over to Satan” and being done with them. 😕 In This Episode You’ll Learn: How Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 18 may surprise you when read in its full context. Who should be involved in doing church discipline and when. What it really means to “turn someone over to Satan”. Practical steps for addressing someone who has sinned against you. Get started here... From this episode: “ It is rare that we, ourselves, don’t also have at least some role in the situation where someone has hurt us or sinned against us. Many churches think they’ve tried starting “missional communities” before, but they failed. Or they've given 'micro-church' a try, and that didn't take off either. But actually… maybe they just exported religious activities! This week on the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we look at the difference between talking a good missional game and truly living in a community that is radically focused on discipleship as a lifestyle. In This Episode You’ll Learn: One of the most common reasons that missional communities fail. Why our best intentions at living on mission often turn into new “law”. The difference between religion and the gospel of grace. How to get the help to make authentic missional living a reality. The idea that 'Gospel, Community and Mission' is crucial to making mature disciples of Jesus may sound a little bit obvious to you at first. But it is surprising how few of us, and our churches, are careful to balance the focus and engagement of these powerful discipleship foundations. In This Episode You’ll Learn: Why we are seeing a lack of maturity in the Church today among Christians. How all 3... Gospel, Community, and Mission play a critical role in disciple-making. What it looks like when you only engage 2 of these 3 foundations with others. Practical resources for growing your people in Gospel, Community, and Mission. Get started here… From this episode: "It is when we are out on God’s mission together, interacting with and serving others that are not exactly like us… or don’t always agree with us or appreciate our lives and perspective... that’s when our own unbelief, selfishness, personal preferences etc. all surface… and can then have the gospel applied to those areas of our lives. That doesn’t happen sitting in an air-conditioned classroom, with lots of hot coffee and snacks in the back, us taking notes and nodding in agreement. What happens when you feel God leading you, beyond a weekly meeting with a handful of other Christians, out to make disciples in the most underserved neighborhood in your city? In this episode, Caesar is joined by author and community builder Terence Schilstra. Along with several other Christian families, they've become connected to over 30 families in their new neighborhood as they make disciples. Church doctrines of grace and salvation can sometimes hinder us from fostering the expectation that we should be and make disciples. Do our current evangelism and discipleship models fall short of producing genuine followers of Jesus? This week on the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we explore the importance of reclaiming a strong understanding of the gospel and the vital link between conversion and discipleship. Joining us is Bill Hull, a "discipleship evangelist" (a term I adore!) and author of several bestselling discipleship classics. In This Episode You’ll Learn: A historical definition of “conversion” that you’ll find clarifying. Why conversion and discipleship are two sides of the same coin. The problems the Church experiences having split (or ignored) these two functions. Why having a bigger view of the gospel is the solution to this problem. Get started here... From this episode: “You’ll never make a disciple from a non-discipleship gospel. A gospel that does not include disciples making disciples, and all true Christians are disciples of Jesus, is actually a very truncated gospel and not really the gospel Jesus proclaimed and preached.” Each week the Big 3 will give you immediate action steps to get you started.
