Traditional banks often lack personalized service, and local businesses struggle to find true partnership in financial institutions. Meanwhile, higher education faces scrutiny over relevance and ROI in a world where information is nearly free. Harry Allen helped launch Studio Bank to blend technology with high-touch service, fueled by community investment. At Belmont, he's applying the same entrepreneurial mindset to modernize university operations and embed practical learning experiences, like a one-of-a-kind partnership with Dolly Parton, into academia. In this episode, Harry L. Allen, co-founder of Studio Bank and now CFO at Belmont University, unpacks the bold vision behind launching a community-first bank in a city dominated by financial giants. He shares the leadership lessons that shaped his journey, how to lead through crisis, and why mentorship is the key to filling today's leadership vacuum. Key Takeaways Leveraging both financial and social capital creates a unique, community-first banking model. High-tech doesn't mean low-touch, Studio Bank fused innovation with personal relationships. Leadership means showing up, especially during crisis. Universities must shift from being information hubs to delivering real-world experience. Succession and mentorship are vital to cultivating the next generation of leaders. Chapters 00:00 Introduction to Harry L. We're back with another episode of Glory Days of Gold, the East Fife and Scottish football podcast recorded across two continents! East Fife are going up. Back to Scottish League One, after a season of ups and downs ended on a high with a 4-3 aggregate win over Annan Athletic. Michael, Doug, Gordon, and Andrew celebrate the promotion, look back at the two playoff final matches, the players that rose to the occasion, and the fans that brought the support and atmosphere. Are you hungry for more Dick?…
We're back with another episode of Glory Days of Gold, the East Fife and Scottish football podcast. The emotional rollercoaster that is supporting East Fife FC took another twist at the weekend. Heading to Peterhead with the Scottish League 2 title in our own hands, it was all thrown away with a lacklustre performance that both angered and dismayed the Fife faithful in equal measure. Doug, Gordon, Aaron, and Andrew are back to look what went wrong on Saturday in that 1-0 loss and what hope there is for the playoffs to come.…
We're back with another episode of Glory Days of Gold, the East Fife and Scottish football podcast. After a horrible set of results this year made it feel that East Fife were throwing the Scottish League 2 title away, a weekend of perfect results now have the black and gold controlling their own destiny with two games to go. East Fife's win over Stirling Albion and Peterhead's capitulation at Elgin leaves the Methil men knowing that two wins to end the season and they will be crowned champions. Doug, Gordon, Aaron, and Andrew are back to look at the rollercoaster ride that's been the last three weeks of matches, look ahead to Saturday's massive and potentially title-deciding game at Peterhead, and chat about the club's Chairman and Vice-Chairman both stepping down.…
We're back with another episode of Glory Days of Gold, the East Fife and Scottish football podcast recorded across two continents! We've seen it all from East Fife in their last two matches. The good, the bad, and the ugly all played out over 180 minutes of football. A heavy 5-2 loss at Edinburgh last weekend was certainly the ugly side of the team's season, sucking the hope out of fans and leaving us wondering whether we were even going to get promoted, never mind lifting the Scottish League 2 championship. We needed to see a response this past weekend against The Spartans, but by half time, another bad display that saw them trail by two seemed to have the wheels not so much fallen off, but melted down and thrown away. Then came the good. The very good. Almost the sublime, as East Fife put in a second half for the ages, playing free-flowing silky soccer, scoring four goals, and coming away with a 4-2 victory and a massive three points. Michael, Doug, Gordon, and Andrew are back to try and make sense about the last fortnight of action and what lies ahead down the stretch. Just what East Fife from the last two weeks are we going to see in the next five? Has the ship been steadied? If they play like they did in the second half against Spartans, can anyone stop them?…
We're back with another episode of Glory Days of Gold, the East Fife and Scottish football podcast. Has a fanbase ever been so doom and gloom while sitting top of the table? That certainly seems to be the mood amongst the East Fife faithful at the moment. A poor run of results and some horrible performances was capped off by a horrorshow of a 3-0 loss at home to Stranraer on Saturday. Doug, Gordon, Aaron, and Andrew are back to chat about the current plight down Bayview way. Is all the good work getting undone? Surely the team aren't going to throw it all away at this late stage. Things clearly need to change, but will the Campbells make the necessary ones? A big match up in the capital is next up where we'll find out.…
We're back with another episode of Glory Days of Gold, the East Fife and Scottish football podcast recorded across two continents! A loss to Stirling Albion had cut East Fife's lead at the top of Scottish League 2 to just a single point, but a win at Clyde and some help elsewhere leaves the men from Methil three clear, with a far superior goal difference to anyone else, and just eight games to go. Michael, Doug, Gordon, and Andrew are back to chat about the last fortnight of action and what lies ahead down the stretch. Is another championship coming East Fife's way and will it be an underachieving season if there isn't?…
We're back with another episode of Glory Days of Gold, the East Fife and Scottish football podcast recorded across two continents, although just one this week! East Fife remain top of Scottish League 2 with 10 games remaining. They're form and performances may have dipped over the last four matches, but they still have a four point lead at the top, with all still to play for. Doug, Gordon, Aaron, and Andrew are back to chat about the last month of action, the big top of the table clash with Peterhead this past weekend, and look ahead to what lies in store down the stretch.…
We're back with another episode of Glory Days of Gold, the East Fife and Scottish football podcast recorded across two continents. East Fife's fantastic unbeaten start to the year continued with an away win at Stranraer and a stunning four-goal late, late show this past weekend at home to Edinburgh City. Wins that see the Fife extend their lead at the top to five points, and with the return of a couple of key injured players, it's bad news for the rest of Scottish League 2 as the team are at full strength and firing on all cylinders. Michael, Doug, Andrew, and Aaron are back to chat about all of that and look at the recent key additions, rumours, the path ahead, and even vent about VAR.…
We're back with another episode of Glory Days of Gold, the (sometimes sporadic!) East Fife and Scottish football podcast recorded across two continents. Shows in back-to-back weeks. We're spoiling you! All helped of course by the black and gold table toppers of East Fife. Another couple of important wins saw the men from Methil open up a five point lead at the top of Scottish League 2. We look back at the 4-2 midweek win at Edinburgh City and the 3-0 home win against Clyde at the weekend and ponder what's behind the stark differences in first and second half performances, can Alan Trouten have his best season of his long career, and the importance of Jess Norey and Andy Munro, among many other topics. Michael, Doug, and Andrew are back to chat about all of that, and they're joined by a new voice making his podcast debut, Andrew Doig.…
We're back with another episode of Glory Days of Gold, the East Fife and Scottish football podcast recorded across two continents. There's a lot to pack into our first podcast of 2025, as East Fife hopefully have started the new year the way they mean to go on - with a victory and top of the league! We look back at the black and gold year that was 2024. There were certainly some highs, some lows, but mostly a lot of in-between, but we saw a change of manager, pursuit of a sale of the club off the pitch, some great goals and goalscorers on it, and a much more feelgood factor down Bayview way in general. Michael, Doug, Aaron, and Andrew are back to chat about all of that, plus look at the last three matches, including the weekend win over Forfar, look ahead to Wednesday's big game in the capital, ponder the wasted opportunity and money of no games during the festive period, make some bold predictions for the coming year, and more!…
We're back with another episode of Glory Days of Gold, the East Fife and Scottish football podcast recorded across two continents. It's been a tough spell for East Fife as the injuries mounted up and the form dipped, but as some key performers return to the starting line-up the Methil Men snapped a six-game winless streak, coming away with a win over Elgin City in a top-of-the-table clash that saw them return to the summit of Scottish League 2. Michael, Gordon, Aaron, and Andrew are back to chat about it all - the past few weeks, Saturday's big win, the state of the league, what may lie in store, and more!…
We're back with another episode of Glory Days of Gold, the East Fife and Scottish football podcast recorded across two continents, although only one this episode! The podcast has been as sporadic as a good East Fife performance of late, but Doug, Gordon, Aaron, and Andrew are back with another episode to chat about the mighty Fife still being top of the league, but out of the cup.…
We're back with another episode of Glory Days of Gold, the East Fife and Scottish football podcast recorded across two continents, although only one this episode! East Fife came away with a hugely important win over league leaders Peterhead on Saturday. A win that sees them move to within one point of top spot. Surely there's nothing going to stop their promotion push now?! Doug, Gordon, and Aaron are back to pick over the bones of that match, the team's recent form, the standout performances across the board, and look at the lie of the land in Scottish League 2. And the Pirie takeover of the show is now complete - theme song, sponsor read, and now hosting. What a family! Just make sure you listen right to the end of this one.…
We're back with another episode of Glory Days of Gold, the East Fife and Scottish football podcast recorded across two continents. East Fife have been flying the last two matches. Two victories, nine goals scored, no goals conceded from open play, and most importantly, playing as a team with everyone contributing. Michael, Gordon, Doug, and Aaron are back to look at the last two games and what it means for the season to come. Too early for the parade planning? Is a league and cup double on the cards? Are we an injury or two away from it being a whole different story? We delve into all of that, look at the excellent depth we've seen the past few games, the outstanding form of Fash, and a lot more. Plus there's still time to look ahead to Scotland kicking off the new Nations League campaign and we chat with Ryan Gauld about his first senior call-up to the national team.…
We're back with another episode of Glory Days of Gold, the East Fife and Scottish football podcast recorded across two continents. The new Scottish season is well and truly up and running and after perhaps getting a little bit carried away with not conceding a goal in preseason friendlies and the first three League Cup matches, conceding nine over two games against St Johnstone and Elgin brought everyone back down to earth with a bump! But it's good to temper expectations and it's been a slow and steady start to East Fife's league campaign. Nothing too fancy, nothing too exciting, but getting the results with three wins in eight days and sitting in a good position in the tabe a few games in with some key tests to come to end the month. Michael, Gordon, and Andrew are back to look at the season so far, the key performers for East Fife to date, and what help might be needed to take the next step we need to finally get back out of League 2. Plus we cast our eyes over the rest of the division and try and figure out who we should be keeping a careful eye on in what is shaping up to be a very tight season with a lot of parity amongst the top teams.…
