“That's taxpayer’s money that is going to support research and development and pilot projects to develop a food system that is based on environmental destruction and greed and disregard for animals, fish, and any of the other marine mammals that might be around it.” - Andrianna Natsoulas Andrianna Natsoulas is the campaign director for Don't Cage Our Oceans, an organization that exists to keep our oceans free from industrial fish farms. Offshore finfish farming is the mass cultivation of finfish in marine waters, in underwater or floating net pens, pods, and cages. Offshore finfish farms are factory farms that harm public health, the environment, and local communities and economies that rely on the ocean and its resources. Don’t Cage Our Oceans are a coalition of diverse organizations working together to stop the development of offshore finfish farming in the United States through federal law, policies, and coalition building. And, although it is not yet happening, right now the US Administration and Congress are promoting this kind of farming, which would be nothing short of disastrous for the oceans, the planet and the people and animals who live here. dontcageouroceans.org…

Jason Miller and Chad Meister - This spring, one of our workshop offerings, The Heart of Christianity, will explore the roots, stories, and practices of Christian faith, and we wanted to introduce its teacher and preview its content. Participants will gain a greater understanding of 2,000 years of Christian history, with an expansive view of various traditions within the larger Christian world. Themes include core Christian beliefs, the early Church, monastic spirituality, the Reformation, the relationship between science and Christian faith, and personal and communal spiritual practices. It's also a good companion experience for those preparing for baptism on Easter, but it's not a requirement to be baptized. Enjoy this conversation between our lead pastor, Jason Miller, and workshop teacher Chad Meister. Chad is a scholar of world religions, a prolific author, an affiliate of the Ansari Institute for Global Engagement with Religion at Notre Dame, and a founding board member of SBCC. We went to learn more about history and conflict, and to be inspired by the healing work of individuals, organizations, and communities. One of the features of our time there was the chance to see the work of our friends at Redeemer Central Church in Belfast. The point of the trip was to bring these lessons home as we continue our journey as a community of grace and peace for our city and the world. We've worked with Telos since the earliest days of South Bend City Church as they've helped us to understand the role of American Christianity in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, as they've helped us become more educated in America's own history and current realities of racial injustice, and as we've developed a local pilgrimage to deepen our awareness and relationships in South Bend.
