The practices of Jesus are essential to our spiritual formation. They are how we do what we can do — sabbath, pray, read Scripture — to make space for God to transform us into the kind of people who can do what we currently cannot do — live and love like Jesus. And they slow our busy lives down to the pace and presence of “the God of peace.”…
Because we are already being formed by our habits, relationships, environments, and more, all formation in the Way of Jesus is counter-formation. As apprentices of Jesus, our goal is to intentionally slow our lives down to find deep joy in walking with Jesus.
Spiritual formation isn’t a Christian thing or even a religious thing; it’s a human thing. To be human is to grow, to mature, to adapt over time. Formation is simply the process by which our “spirit,” or inner person, is formed into a particular shape or character. Over a lifetime, we are spiritually formed by a complex alchemy of genetic inheritance, family patterns, childhood wounds, education, habits, decisions, relationships, environments, and more. The problem is, most of our spiritual formation is unintentional. It just happens. And often, we are “conform[ed] to the pattern of this world,” more than “transformed by the renewing of [our] mind” (Romans 12:2).…
Following Jesus is more than going to church or believing the right things; it is practicing a way of life. The meaning of “follow Jesus” is rooted in first-century practices of rabbis and apprentices, practices that inform our understanding of how to follow Jesus today.
Despite the state of our world today, followers of Jesus have a secure hope for the future—the now and not yet kingdom of God. But this hope is not simply that God will whisk us away from this world of sin and rebellion for an eternity in heaven, but that God's grand plan is to remake and reunite heaven and earth as he always intended. This paradigm shift in our thinking about the future should change everything here in the present. The concept of the Kingdom of God is woven throughout scripture from the first page to the last. It was Jesus' favorite topic, but today it is often a very misunderstood one. Join us as we trace this life-changing theme through the pages of scripture from the past, to the present, and into the future.…
2,000 years ago Jesus declared that the kingdom of God had arrived, but what does life in this new kingdom reality look like and how do we interpret the resistance that comes with that kingdom life? The concept of the Kingdom of God is woven throughout scripture from the first page to the last. It was Jesus' favorite topic, but today it is often a very misunderstood one. Join us as we trace this life-changing theme through the pages of scripture from the past, to the present, and into the future.…
The concept of the Kingdom of God is woven throughout scripture from the first page to the last. It was Jesus' favorite topic, but today it is often a very misunderstood one. Join us as we trace this life-changing theme through the pages of scripture from the past, to the present, and into the future. The roots of this concept are found in chapter one of Genesis where God creates human beings in his image so that we might rule his creation on his behalf as part of his kingdom. But at the start of the New Testament Jesus appears declaring that God's kingdom is arriving. What happened? Where did the kingdom go?…

It can sometimes be a confusing journey but it's made much easier with both a map and a pathway to guide us. Join us for our Future Church teaching series as we explore the future of Everyday Church and begin a new chapter in the life of our community.…
The end goal of apprenticeship to Jesus is to do the things that he did, but how do we do that when we are not Jesus? What does it look like to do the things that Jesus did within the unique contours of our own lives in 2025 on the Central Coast? Join us for our Future Church teaching series as we explore the future of Everyday Church and begin a new chapter in the life of our community.…
Many people aspire to be like Jesus, but so often find themselves stuck in their apprenticeship to him—they want to become like Jesus but they don't know how. This process of spiritual formation happens through the work of the Holy Spirit that Jesus promised his disciples in John 14. Through both power encounters and daily practices that excavate space in our busy lives, the Spirit of God transforms us from the inside out. Join us for our Future Church teaching series as we explore the future of Everyday Church and begin a new chapter in the life of our community.…
In an age where all sorts of people are vying for our attention, offering little of substance in return for our loyalty, Jesus of Nazareth stands alone as the one who can offer us life in all its fullness. Giving us a method of following him that is just as transformational today as it was for his first apprentices 2,000 years ago, Jesus begins by inviting us to simply be with him—to learn to value and enjoy his presence both in our individual lives and as we gather together. Join us for our Future Church teaching series as we explore the future of Everyday Church and begin a new chapter in the life of our community.…
Down through the ages followers of Jesus have remained faithful to the basic tenets of the Christian faith while reimagining the spirituality of the Church for their own unique situation. In a world afflicted by the twin challenges of anxiety and exhaustion, what does a church for this cultural moment look like? Join us for our Future Church teaching series as we explore the future of Everyday Church and begin a new chapter in the life of our community.…
The world of today with all of its brokenness and beauty would be an unfamiliar place to those of previous generations. So how does the church rediscover its place and purpose in this Brave New World? God is inviting us to partner with him in his great project of renewing all of creation—the uniting of heaven and earth. Will we join him? Join us for our Future Church teaching series as we explore the future of Everyday Church and begin a new chapter in the life of our community.…
We live in a quick-fix world where many people struggle to commit to relationships for the long haul and the local church is no different. But if we learn to embrace God's design for the church as a spiritual family we will experience incredible benefits.
Christmas is "good news of great joy," but all too often we don't experience that joy in our everyday lives. As we look at the Christmas story in Luke 2, discover how we can both protect and increase our joy by treasuring and pondering God's goodness in our lives just like Mary did.
There's a lot that goes into making Christmas the "most wonderful time of the year". Decorations and parties and gifts and food and movies... the list goes on and on. Why does a season of supposed peace cause us so much exhaustion and anxiety? And more importantly, how can we rediscover the peace of God in the midst of our busy lives all year round? The answer lies in rediscovering the practice of solitude and silence...…
Like the Christmas story, all hope begins in the place of pain and disillusionment. But if we can fix our eyes on a good God, trust his plans for our lives and our world, and invite the Holy Spirit to be our journeying companion through the process, hope will never fail us.
Statistics tell us that the Church in the West is in an irreversible decline without the intervention of a God who brings dead things back to life. Starting with the foundation of the first mention of prayer in scripture from Genesis 4:26, Rich Kirby explores how we must call on the name of the LORD to fulfill his unchanging promises in our day and build a church dependent on a move of God.…
