I’m Shannon Maybury, your host of The Race Directors podcast, and I’m joined by the soon-to-be blue-flagged backmarkers F1 journalist Ed Spencer and serial podcaster Joe Spagnoli, mysterious F1 Twitter menace Unpaid 1ntern is still doing his paid interning. Looking Back with Ed. To choose a classic race from Spa, is like choosing which cake to have for dessert you simply can’t choose one. But if I had to choose one it had to be the one which had everything you could have wanted in a race, drama, action and a heartwarming ending. It’s the story of when Damon Hill and Eddie Jordan danced all night and Schumacher raged quit. It’s the story of Spa’1998. Classic teams with Joe. Mercedes’s dominance post-2013 may have reintroduced German silver to the front of the F1 grid, but for all their pride before crashing out at Hockenheim, the team itself are as British as they get. In fact, true German teams are a rarity in F1 history, perhaps due in part to the mess of this week’s classic tale, when the Zakspeed touring car team decided to try their luck on the biggest stage of all. Looking Back with Ed. The 2006 edition of the Hungarian Grand Prix was the weekend where Jenson Button finally broke a hoodoo that lasted over 100 races to join the most prestigious club in racing. It’s the story of when Button danced in the rain. Classic teams of F1 lore - British American Racing (BAR). Riding a wave of hype and expectation never before seen in the sport, British American Racing – BAR – emerged from the ashes of the classic Tyrrell, but this was no simple takeover. Craig Pollock’s team were based out of an all-new facility in Brackley, had sponsorship from one of the world’s biggest tobacco conglomerates, and the services of 1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve. Shannon Maybury is joined by F1 journalist Ed Spencer and serial podcaster Joe Spagnoli and mysterious F1 Twitter menace Unpaid 1ntern. Looking Back with Ed. The 1999 French Grand Prix was won by Heinz-Harald Frentzen driving a Jordan after starting from fifth position. It was a dramatic dry to wet and dry again race. Link to classic teams with Joe. Real estate companies aren’t exactly typical F1 partners, but after sponsoring future Ferrari driver Ivan Capelli in the Japanese Formula 2 championship, Leyton House owner Akira Akagi found himself supporting a full Formula 1 team come 1987. Shannon Maybury, is joined by the soon to be blue flagged backmarkers F1 journalist Ed Spencer and serial podcaster Joe Spagnoli and mysterious F1 Twitter menace Unpaid 1ntern. Looking Back with Ed. Many races have been stopped early due to poor weather but few have the drama that the 1975 Austrian Grand Prix had as Vittorio Brambilla won and spun in the rain. Here’s the story of how the Monza gorilla roared and then slipped to victory. Link to classic teams with Joe. Between the high average speed, elevation and threat of rain in the Styrian hills, the Austrian Grand Prix is one of the classic venues for a chaotic race. Surprise Austrian GP wins are a common factor with Joe’s retro teams, with March in 1975 and Penske in ‘76, and this week he’s made it a hattrick with the winners from 1977, Shadow. Review 87 British GP - Now we all know Silverstone has a very large and boisterous crowd but they are also extremely helpful in giving the first indication that you are gaining on the car in front of you. Here’s Ed with the first example of how people power helped Nigel Mansell take a crucial second British Grand Prix win. Link to classic teams with Joe. Now, we at the Race Directors are deliberately ‘Not Your Dad’s F1 Podcast’. All three of us are under the age of 30, and we know a majority of you are, too, which is why - of all the teams he could have chosen - Joe’s picked one that started in 1954, it's Vanwall.” Carrie Brooks on Tony Brooks Tony Brooks was a British racing driver who participated in 39 Formula One World Championship Grands Prix, from 1956 to 1961, He competed for Connaught, Vanwall, BRM and Ferrari winning 9 Grand Prix in an era that featured Fangio and Moss. Shannon Maybury, your host of The Race Directors podcast, is joined by F1 journalist Ed Spencer and serial podcaster Joe Spagnoli to discuss The Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Looking Back with Ed. A review Of the 1991 Canadian GP when Mansell waved away certain victory. Link to classic teams with Joe “ When a team wins in Formula 1, it’s normal to have the British, Italian, or even French national anthems blasted on the podium, but for a brief while in the 70s, you may have been lucky enough to hear ‘O Canada’. Back then, coming into new money was often enough to set up your own team , and although Lawrence Stroll has done his best by acquiring Aston Martin, it’s nowhere near as proud as a black and gold car with red maple leaves on the wings. This is the short story of a certain Wolf.” Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.…

The Spanish GP 2022 wasn't a grade “A” spectacle but it was an entertaining race in Barcelona. Should this have been a Ferrari one-two? By the time the F1 fraternity rolled into Monaco for round six in the 1992 world championship, the result of the title fight looked already decided before a car had left the pits. Nigel Mansell had won the first five races and was dominating the season. Ligier was yet another sports car team entering the crucible of formula one and arguably one of the most successful and competitive small teams in the sport's history, made all the more impressive for doing it the French way. They took over the departing Matra team ahead of 1976, fielding one, all original chassis for countrymen, Jacques Laffite. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.…

The Sunshine State becomes the no fun shine state with this year's Miami GP. Though intern thinks it was one of the best looking events I have ever seen. Well, we've got some differing opinions clearly. What is it like to walk on water? It's impossible, but Michael Schumacher came very close to achieving that feat. This is the story. Michael Schumacher's win in the 1996 Spanish Grand Prix. When the rain did come down. There was a time in the seventies when if you wanted to go racing, you purchased a March. Today we look at the racing team that sold its cars to the rest of the grid. Trivia question for the anoraks which there are a few, which was the most successful March car, commercially speaking?
