Those who have served are underserved.
There are numerous crises in the retired military population.
Suicide, substance abuse, and numerous other challenges are disproportionately impacting those who have given so much for this country.
Chaplain Shelly Rood shares on her military and personal journey and how the civilian population can help those who need us most. Stopping and thanking someone for their service is a nice first step. But there's more that you can do.
In these episode we cover:
-Why many former military service members don't view themselves as veterans (and the propaganda campaign that ensures they don't)
-What NOT to say to a veteran
-What to say after "Thank you for your service"
-The moment Shelly knew it was time to leave her abusive alcoholic husband
-What to do when you're in a hopeless place and know you need help
Want a deeper dive into how to have better conversations with military people? Check out the special page she made just for my listeners!
