Welcome to the first Podcast in the Your Panic Free Life series. I’m Annie Roy-Barker, founder of Your Panic Free Life and the first thing I want to say is that I really do know how frightening and debilitating panic attacks can be; how hard and frustrating it is when you don’t know what’s causing them and don’t have a clue how to prevent them. How do I know? Because I’ve been in that situation. Got the T-shirt.

Desperately, I would search the web looking for some semblance of help that would get me out of the insidious mess that controlled my life. All I could find was advice about coping with/managing panic attacks. That just wasn’t good enough. I wanted to know what was causing my panic attacks and how to stop them happening.

After suffering panic attacks for nine horrendous years, I was referred to a respiratory consultant who had pioneered work into the cause and effect of dysfunctional breathing.

He diagnosed that I was suffering from Chronic Habitual Hyperventilation Syndrome.

Surprising as it may seem, breathing incorrectly was actually causing my panic attacks? I was taught how to breathe correctly and, eventually, my panic attacks ceased. No more coping. No more managing. And it’s really important to say here that all this happened over thirty years ago. And I haven’t had a panic attack since. I live a panic free life.
