Recently, a world record was broken with the largest ever prize from Powerball- $2.04 billion jackpot.

有人中了Powerball的20.4亿美元（约146亿人民币），这是 the largest ever prize（史上最大的奖），因此a world record was broken（破了世界纪录）。

1. 到底是什么样的好事？

Buying lottery tickets（买彩票）是一个popular activity（很流行的活动）。

美国彩票的其中一种就是Powerball（强力球），它就像是福利彩票有双色球、刮刮乐一样。

这个人中了jackpot（头彩），the odds of winning this（中奖的几率）是2.922亿分之一，the odds are low（这个几率真的是相当地低）。

odds，表示“几率、可能性”，它还有一个超级地道的用法，就是“好巧”，比如说：

在美国，中彩票之后，得到奖金有2种选项：

一种是，with payments over 30 years，按年来取，30年内每年收取一部分。

另一种方式比较受欢迎，一次性全部取出，只不过是需要交税，到手的lump sum payment（总金额）就会是in a smaller amount（少一些）。

上百亿的奖金不是小数目，in California, you cannot remain anonymous（不能匿名取款）。

People also were upset on how much of this winning would be taxed by the government.

还有人对政府从中征去不少税感到不满的。
