Where does Hollywood go when they need to store critical items? Who does a local medical supply company turn to when filing records? Honestly, the same company: UV&S. Host Don Sherman is joined by Jeff Ollenburger and Dan Reisig to talk about how UV&S has grown into Wichita and worldwide from their original business beginnings in Hutchinson. On this episode we discuss:

  • Listening to your clients so they can steer you to success
  • Serving as a back office for storage of small businesses
  • The shifting need towards digital storage
  • Finding the right people to work with
  • The two things you need to know about ransomware
  • The importance of staying connected to the local community through the Chamber of Commerce
  • The value of the Business Expo and how to have success there

UV&S incorporated on June 11, 1959, founded by a group of Kansas businessmen who predicted the need for a secure location to protect and manage information. They evaluated numerous sites nationwide, then chose the salt mine in Hutchinson, Kansas. Known in the industry as an early entrant in the offsite records management field, UV&S is still a privately owned and operated business. Many of the original families continue in the management and direction of our company.

The company grew to encompass six records centers – three underground and three above ground. Underground facilities in Kentucky, Missouri and Kansas provide the highest level of security from natural disasters and potential civil unrest for clients nationally and internationally. Above ground facilities in Oklahoma and Kansas serve local metropolitan areas.

We acknowledge a diverse client population that migrates data and information, for storage, from over 38 countries worldwide. The salt mine in Hutchinson, Kansas is our largest facility – more than 650 feet underground with a vertical entrance; protecting records in every form and movie film. In Wichita, Topeka and Oklahoma City our three state-of-the-art records centers are used primarily for active rotation and retention of a geographically near clientele.

Services are provided to customers in a traditional “fee for service” arrangement. From transportation, handling, inprocessing, retrievals, refiles, copying and destruction, UV&S can accomplish it all. With the proliferation of third party air transportation and overnight delivery, the distance of our vaults is transparent to our users.
