Built to Last
Manage episode 289929163 series 2289085
You’re always living in something that’s been built - good or bad - by you or someone else. In this message, Tiffany Nunnally encourages us to consider where you are living and what you are building.
If you don’t know Jesus you’re spiritually homeless. Our job is to save the homeless, bring them to our house and help them build their own.
3 Types of structures that are built to last:
1. A Lighthouse.
Matt. 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world - like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts in under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”
2. A storm shelter.
Psalm 91:1-2 “He who dwells in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God in Him I will trust.”
3. A fortress.
Psalm 18:2 “The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer. My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge and find protection; My shield and the power that saves me, my stronghold and place of safety.”
3 things needed for a lasting structure to stay useful:
1. Investment.
Luke 14:28-30 "But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it? 29 Otherwise, you might complete only the foundation before running out of money, and then everyone would laugh at you. 30 They would say, ‘There’s the person who started that building and couldn’t afford to finish it!"
2. Maintenance.
Phil. 4:8 “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. FIX your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”
3. Restoration.
Romans 12:2 “Don’t be conformed to the world, but be transformed by the renewing of you mind.”
Will you build with the Lord?
