98: Pickup on South Street (1953) and Prisoners (2013)
Manage episode 312907046 series 2901289
We end Noir-vember with a couple good ones. Sam Fuller's classic noir, "Pick Up on South Street" (1953) stars Richard Widmark as a pick pocket who sticks his fingers in the wrong women's purse and ends up being pursued by NYC cops, feds and commies. The opening scene was as good as it gets and both loved the dialog Fuller seemingly created for the film. Show favorite Denis Villeneuve (Enemy, Arrival) once again does not disappoint with "Prisoners" (2013). It's a brutal story about the kidnapping of two young girls and the aftermath. Not for everyone, but Villeneuve is one of the best directors working today and it's definitely worth viewing.
Next, we lighten up after the darkness of Noir with a couple Netflix cancer comedies, Other People (2016) and Paddleton (2019).
Thanks for listening!
