A problem many of us face is thinking that the road must be smooth and everybody must be comfortable. Ask yourself, is growth ever really comfortable? Is smooth sailing promised to anyone? Is the comfort zone where growth and expansion happens? The answer to all is, of course, no. We all have a comfort zone, where everything is familiar and comfortable. We get safety and security from our little bubble, it brings predictability. Then when we start to feel unsafe or unfamiliar it produces fear. We must be okay with being uncomfortable and not allow fear to keep us in our comfort zone. If we want to do something different or learn something new we have to challenge ourselves to get outside of our box. Failure isn’t all bad, it can be a great educator. Learning what not to do is sometimes just as valuable as learning what to do. So, do it scared. When you feel that fight or flight, know it’s a natural response and just means you’re stepping out. Remind yourself of what you have to gain from the experience.
