“I did not like saying no at first. I did not know how to say it. I would make up excuses, I would sometimes even lie… because I was a people-pleaser. And I didn’t want to hurt other people’s feelings.”

— Julie Greenham

Do you have trouble saying no to certain people or certain requests?

Do you find yourself agreeing to tasks that you find frustrating, unpleasant, or take up too much of your time while providing no value to your own life or business?

For introverts, it can often be difficult to assert boundaries in the moment. Many of us are also people-pleasers, which makes it twice as challenging.

Many of us feel that we have to lie or make up excuses… but learning that “no” is a complete sentence can be game-changing.

Especially when you’re a business owner.

When you are stuck in a pattern of saying yes to everything, you are giving away your time. There are only 24 hours in a day, and you need to guard those hours and use them on the things that will help you grow your own business and build value and joy in your own life.

The first step? Defining and identifying the money-generating activities, hobbies, courses, and collaborations that will help you on the path toward your own personal and professional goals.

Remember: whenever you say yes to something, you say no to something else.

Saying no is definitely a skill that you need to build and practice. I promise you, once you put the work in, it WILL get easier and you will feel less guilty about it!

In this episode of The Quiet Powerhouse, I share my best tips for getting comfortable with setting boundaries (and provide some mantras to help you build up your voice)!

Let’s get started!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • The 3 questions you should ask yourself before saying ‘yes’ to a new task, opportunity, or collaboration
  • Why you should drastically cut down on your use of the word ‘maybe’ — and what to say instead
  • Key phrases that you can use to gently but firmly set boundaries or say ‘no’ (or even ‘not now’)

Highlights:‌ ‌

  • 01:09 Listener shout-out
  • 02:37 Hard to say no
  • 04:11 Saying no in business
  • 05:04 Defining priorities & case study
  • 07:39 Money-generating activities
