The Business Show which was broadcast live on Marlow FM 97.5 on 3rd June is now available here.

My guests on this show were Lawrence Wood and Fiona Johnson. You can connect with them via https://www.linkedin.com/in/lawrencemwood/ and https://www.linkedin.com/in/fijohnsonpr/ respectively.

One of my guitar playing failures is Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit, so I played their version, not mine. You can see and hear it at https://youtu.be/hTWKbfoikeg .

I talk first to Lawrence Wood of Lawrence Wood Communications, and we talk about what communications means to him, how he got into that line of business, and the different kinds of projects he delivers for different clients.

Fiona Johnson of Fiona Johnson PR agrees that having fun in your job is important, and she does! She then talks about reputation building, which is a key focus of her business, including wishing me the best of luck with my alternative approach!

Stevie Wonder’s “For Once In My Life” was Fiona’s choice of music for us - you can listen to it at https://youtu.be/imsB543zqSM and you can listen to Fiona tell us about when she met Stevie. Well jel!

We then turn to Lawrence’s chosen story for us to discuss, which you can read at https://www.businessinsider.com/communication-business-skill-2018-5?r=US&IR=T – why are business people (generally!) so bad at communication? And how can you be a good listener?

https://www.theguardian.com/business/2021/jun/01/dominos-pizza-looks-for-5000-chefs-and-riders-as-takeaway-boom-continues is the story chosen by Fiona, with the conversation more about the changing pattern of recruitment, vacancies and more than it was about pizza. And it was also a conversation about the way in which Dominos made it a good news story about them.

Lawrence’s music choice was “Ca Plane Pour Moi” by Plastic Bertrand. It’s such a happy song, but also evokes a very specific memory for Lawrence. You can listen to it at https://youtu.be/RDHjeiys3a0 .

Our final conversation was sparked by the story I found at https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/372331 - with how many of those points do you agree?

I close the show with Lenny Kravitz and “Are You Gonna Go My Way” – another song whose intro I’ve nearly mastered on my guitar! You can hear Lenny play it at https://youtu.be/8LhCd1W2V0Q - he’s a bit better than me.

As Lawrence said, he lives on LinkedIn, so the best way to contact him is via https://www.linkedin.com/in/lawrencemwood/ .
