The recruitment and selection process is usually delegated to department heads or HR, rather than being in the hands of CEOs. When it comes to hiring new employees, who should be in charge?
A number of business leaders are consistently dissatisfied with the quality of person being hired. So, talking to one business leader, I asked, “what’s stopping you from doing the hiring?” Well, they said they used to hire, and they would get good people, but somewhere down the line they stopped that practice. At some point they began to delegate that task.
I understand that recruitment and selection can be time consuming; however, it can also be very fruitful when done right. Taking the time to build relationships with candidates ensures that, once the hiring process begins, it is a smooth transition. It’s a powerful thing when the CEO is seeking you out. When hiring new employees, a hands-on approach can make candidates feel special, which can help them fit into the business quickly.
If your recruitment process isn’t working for you, then maybe you need to personally take control of hiring. Instead of being frustrated, take more of an active role in the process. Really take the time to sell your business to your candidates. By doing so, you’ll attract better people, which will ultimately save you time and money.
How you want to go about tackling the recruitment and selection process is entirely up to you. But if you want to start hiring new employees that match your expectations, then you might want to consider stepping in. The hiring process is a vital part of any growing business.
