Fifteen minutes outside downtown Birmingham, the quiet town of Docena, Alabama, sits next to a long-defunct mine. Its inhabitants still burst with stories about the vibrant company town, just as they did forty years ago when the first wave of Samford students came to collect their life stories. In this episode of Sam.wav, hear their stories about growing up in a Southern mining town and what life is like there today. This episode features Melba Kizzire, E. L. McFee, Cameron Teaney, Faye Mason, and Nancy Fouche. The music in this episode was written and produced by Samford student Kerry Joiner as well as the Blue Dot Sessions and Lobo Loco, which can be found on the Free Music Archive.
