The Songs of Ascents are discipleship songs that were sung by Jewish pilgrims on the trip up to Jerusalem for one of the three annual feasts. So it makes sense that some of the Songs would relate to seeking and trusting the Lord in the daily family life. Psalms 127 and 128 are a pair of the Songs that do indeed teach concerning the family.-----Since Psalm 126 ended with a call for diligence to work for the Lord while trusting in His sovereignty to bring the results as He sees fit -and promises-, it is fitting that Psalm 127's main them is trusting in God and His goodness while living for Him. Solomon--as he teaches in Ecclesiastes--cautions us that if we live and trust in our own skills, labors, and motives all our building and watching will be vanity. But if the Lord builds the house--we labor for Him according to His priorities and will and by His power--there will be blessing and success.-----And a wonderful example of this is the blessing of children. Children are a gift from God, not earned, not able to be built, to be enjoyed and raised up for God and by God's directions and helps. And we trust God for the results.-----I.
