Mohammad Marandi, professor of English literature and Orientalism at the University of Tehran, talks to us about the case of Abu Mohammad al-Jolani, the leader of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, who recently gave an interview with PBS and how leaders of terrorist groups are recruited and then rehabilitated by the U.S. foreign policy and defense interests to advance geopolitical goals, how this is not a new practice, how this way of thinking does not take into account the consequences of these actions for the countries involved and how media and ‘experts’ never challenge these plans and go along with the establishment.
