In this week's episode your hosts discuss the highly anticipated A Shadow in the Embers, the prequel to Jennifer L. Armentrout's From Blood and Ash series. Sera is promised to the Primal of Death through an arrangement made by her ancestors to replenish the lands. Now the Rot has returned and Sera believes she is her country’s only salvation—she must make the Primal fall in love with her, and then she must kill him. When the time comes for the Primal of Death to claim her as his consort though, he rejects her. In the aftermath of his rejection and over the next 3 years, Sera learns to fight and helps her people in any way she can, but tensions in the castle, especially with her mother, the queen, and her stepbrother are high. When the Primal of Death is forced to claim Sera, she realizes that she is no longer the same girl who was trained to submit to the Primal of Death, and she struggles to fit back into the mold she was forced into years ago. Sera and the Primal find themselves drawn to each other in a powerful way, further complicating things.
