Is there a definitive timeline on how long you'll work in a role without getting promoted or having other opportunities available?

In this episode of the Future Female Leaders podcast, host Nichole Harrop addresses the question of how long one should stay at their current job if they aren't getting promoted. She clarifies that it's not always about the money but rather about experience and making a difference. Money is a consideration, however, and Nichole provides examples of what it can look like when you're not getting promoted within your company.

She talks about the standard cost of living increases, which have been around 7% in the last two years. If you're not getting a cost of living increase wage, you're losing money each year. She gives an example of someone who starts at a salary of $40,000 and receives a 3% raise each year. If they stick with their current job, they will reach $46,003.70 by the fifth year. However, if they found a new job at $50,000 after the second year, by the fifth year, their salary would be $54,006.36.

Nichole emphasizes that it's never a bad thing to prioritize yourself and what you're interested in, including pay and opportunities. If you've been in your job for at least 6 months to a year and are actively applying for roles but getting vague feedback, it may be time to consider other opportunities.
