Janet Abai is a trauma counselor and pursuing her PhD. She shares her story about how the trauma from her father bolstered her desire to become a counselor. She demonstrates how trauma can teach you what justice looks like. If you'd like to hear more from Janet, you can visit her YouTube channel called When Trauma Meets Theology.
Janet Abai was born and brought up in Jos, Nigeria. Before
moving to the US, she served full-time with a faith-based organization in
finance management, Scripture engagement, and as a human resource generalist.
She loves public speaking, academic research, facilitating
seminars and workshops, praying, listening to people’s stories, and helping
them through crisis debriefings and trauma intervention.
Janet holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communication/Journalism, a Master's in Theology and Peace Studies, and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Systematics theology and ethics. Her academic research focuses on the intersection between emotional trauma and theology. When she is not working on academic writing or research, Janet enjoys writing songs and devotionals, traveling to academic conferences, watching Christmas Hallmark movies, running, and dancing.
She is the founder of a new YouTube channel called When
Trauma Meets Theology.
