The person who can hurt us the most is ourselves.
We spend most of our lives judging what we say, do or think, constantly evaluating ourselves and others instead of observing.
We are the ones who can hurt ourselves the most.
We spend most of our lives judging what we say, do, and think, constantly evaluating ourselves and others instead of observing.
How do you tell the difference between observation and evaluation? 'Evaluation' is the act of judging the worth of something or someone, as opposed to observation, which closely monitors something or someone. Easy, while one makes a judgment, the other observes.
This kind of self-evaluation is destructive and keeps you stuck; it leaves indelible marks on your mind that cause sadness, irritability, frustration, and burnout. Observation, on the other hand, allows you to have a broad perspective of what is happening in your life and how you ought to address it. Take this example: a client didn't pay you, so you can decide whether to observe or evaluate. The result of our evaluation is, "that client is so irresponsible and inconsiderate" Meanwhile, the observation tells you, "this client hasn't paid me," triggering the question, "How do I get them to pay me?"
In this episode, I talk about the difference between observation and evaluation and how it affects our lives.
You can either observe curiosity or evaluate judgment. Which one will you choose?
