1990 was truly a pivotal year for the direction pop music and global charts were heading. It was the start of house / dance music loudly stamping its mark on the global stage, no doubt in large part thanks to Madonna who changed musical direction dramatically with the release of VOGUE. Its sound was inspired by underground house music, with choreography paying tribute to the then little-known Harlem ball scene, where drag queens and club kids would compete with outfits and dance moves. This would cause both frustration and elation within the underground queer culture scene as it unexpectedly found itself in the mainstream. VOGUE spent 4 weeks at No. 1 on the UK singles chart, eventually being knocked off the top spot by another ground breaking dance track, Killer by Adamski, featuring a then unknown vocalist named SEAL. Respectively, they would become the 8th and 4th best selling singles of the year. 1. (I Wanna Give You) Devotion (Original Club Mix) - Nomad 2. Everybody Everybody - Black Box 3.
