Adam Shoenfeld
Manage episode 318033185 series 2852393
Adam Shoenfeld is an ACM (American Country Music) nominated guitarist with a resume that rivals the best in the business, including being a bandmate of Jason Aldean and Tim McGraw and playing on over 45 #1 songs. He is also credited by many for helping establish a rock influence within the Country Music genre.
Adam joins Country Music Made Me to discuss his childhood, growing up in New Jersey, and becoming infatuated by the guitar when he was only 5 years old. As his love for playing grew he would spend long days locked away in his bedroom creating music on his Tascam 4-Track cassette Recorder, recordings which he still has tucked away to this day. After playing in a few bands during High School Adam headed to Nashville with his bandmates in the Nathan Lee Band to chase their Rock n' Roll Dreams. Unfortunately the thoughts of becoming Rock Stars quickly fizzled but Adam never stopped pushing towards a career in music.
Adam and Brendan talk about his time playing with Big Kenney and the pivotal moment that changed everything, when Big and Rich asked him to play guitar on their debut record Horse of a Different Color. It's the moment when Adam began to infuse his rock inspired guitar playing into the world of Country Music. Around that same time Adam started playing in Jason Aldean's showcase band as he worked to secure a record deal. At one time Adam and Jason were offered a deal as a duo but Adam wasn't ready to make Country Music his full time gig.
Adam talks about the journey he's been on with Aldean and seeing him grow as an artist, as he's now played on all 10 of Jason's records. He also describes the difference between session playing and live gigs, as he only plays in the studio with Aldean but is also the longtime live touring guitarist for Tim McGraw.
Finally, Adam talks about his many side projects which help to fulfill his love of all genres, including his debut solo album All the Birds Sing. It's a record inspired by many of his Rock n' Roll idols like Peter Frampton, The Beatles, and the Rolling Stones. The album was co-produced by Adam and his wife Katie Cook and showcases not only a more personal side of himself but also his profound musical talents, as he played almost every instrument on the album.
