Today we will be looking at the words ‘Ability’ and ‘Agreement’.

The word ability is spelled as A-B-I-L-I-T-Y. This word means the state of being able to do something, especially any physical state, mental state, or legal power to do something. This definition of ability is for the use of ability as a noun. A sentence can be, “The ability of soil to hold water.” or another sentence can be “A writer's ability is to engage the readers interest in order to convey a specific topic.”

Someone having the skillset to do something can also be a definition for ability. For example a sentence can be, “the artist’s abilities are amazing.” This specific use for ability can be a synonym for skill.

Another use of ability as a noun is someone’s natural aptitude in something or the skill comes to them naturally. An example with this can be, “Different students have different abilities.” This definition looks as though it is similar to the previous one but it is not. This definition is more about someone’s natural ability to do something, the previous one is talking more about skill. Skill can be learned and improved on by people such as athletes. On the other hand, some athletes’ bodies are built for the sport and it is easier for them to play it.

The next word is agreement which is spelled as A-G-R-E-E-M-E-N-T. All uses of the word agreement are nouns. One definition can be that all opinions, actions or characters are the same of a group of people. They all have similar ideas or say okay to a specific idea. An example could be, “Everyone was in agreement about having chinese food for dinner.”

Another definition of agreement is an act of agreement meaning they do an action that shows they have the same idea or opinion as another person. For example, “The Pope nodded in agreement with the Bishops.”

An arrangement as to a course in action is also a definition. Like a group of people are on the same page as to what they want to do. For example, “The businessmen came to an agreement regarding their contracts.”

Any compact or treaty can also be an agreement like a trade agreement between countries. An example of a sentence can be, “The United States of America just signed a trade agreement with France.”
