Episode 46: Judy Weaver, Founder of Connected Warriors
Manage episode 295915707 series 2793002
This week we welcome Judy Weaver, founder of Connected Warriors. In 2007, Judy met Beau MacVane, an Army Ranger that after five tours in Iraq was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Beau asked Judy to teach him yoga so he could stay as strong and connected to his body as humanly possible as he fought his terminal illness. Over the next several years Judy watched as Beau battled his disease, and was amazed by how he was able to use her instruction, and his determination, to battle the decline of his physical body. After Beau’s passing, Judy was determined to continue to help America’s war-fighters, and Connected Warriors was born. Connected Warriors provides yoga instruction to veterans, with a focus on the specific needs of military members and first responders. Their mission is to elevate the warriors in our community by engaging them in a process of healing, growth and change in ways that benefit themselves, their families and the community. Connected Warriors acts as a leading advocate for veterans, active duty military, and veteran services with local, state, and the federal government. Whether it is teaching yoga instructors the unique needs of this diverse community, or providing an environment welcoming to the veteran mentality, Judy’s prime objective is to help each participant better their mental and physical lives. So kick off your shoes, lay out your yoga mat, and get into Warrior One with this week’s interview
