Nothing is quite as heartbreaking as watching a good gift be wasted. Imagine that you found the perfect gift for someone you love. The gift matches them in ways that will help them grow and flourish. You give that person the gift and they are thrilled. But, three months later, you find out that they are using the gift in ways that you never intended. Even worse, they have seen others use that same gift in ways that are dangerous, and so the gift has been abandoned and forgotten. How would you feel if you were in this situation?

In this week’s episode of the Biblical Counseling Podcast, Pastor Jeff Christianson finishes his series on the topic of the Holy Spirit. This episode continues a conversation from Episode 194, as Jeff discusses the ways that Christians tragically abuse the gifts from the most important gift-giver in the world, God himself. The Holy Spirit has given his church spiritual gifts for their building up and encouragement, particularly the gifts of prophecy and tongues. Sadly, many Christians take these gifts and either use them in ways that God never intended or neglect them entirely. If Christians are seeking to be biblical, they will see that they can not afford to take either approach.
