In this episode I had the pleasure of sitting down with Joshua Sparks. Josh spent close to 5 years as the CEO of Sass & Bide when they were at the peak of their powers, he then moved over to New York to consult to designer fashion brands before spending time as the CEO of Thom Brown and the Managing Director Of Urban Outfitters.

He then returned to Australia to found wellness brand THR1VE before an exit to the Sumo Group. 6 years later. He’s also spent time as the head of Innovation & Growth at MJ Bale.

Josh is currently Founder and Principle Consultant at boutique management consultancy firm, Together. Their focus is consulting to and coaching ambitious and innovative business leaders, those who are genuinely committed to making a transformational impact on their business, brand and community.

In this episode:

  • The different Zen philosophies that can be translated to business & how learning about Buddhism has assisted Josh in his career.
  • How to scale from 6 figures per year to 7, from 7 to 8 and from 8 to 9 (EXACTLY what your business should focus on at each stage)
  • The goal setting strategy that Josh has used his whole career to not only achieve his goals but achieve them within a certain time frame.
  • The difference in the work culture over in the US & how this impacted Joshes career once he got back to Australia
  • How Josh took Thom Brown from a company that was going to go under and turned it into a thriving fashion label in a few short years.
  • The importance of having a higher purpose & not attaching yourself to a job title or a career.
  • How to manage the stress and pressure that comes with being CEO (or the founder of your own business)
