PODCAST: The August edition of HRDM 101 Conversation (by IPM and COMETSA), on Wednesday, 4th August 2021, hosted two dynamic women in the sector. Nontu Mgabhi, GM of HR at the Richards Bay Coal Terminal, the youngest ever Executive appointed by the Terminal (appointed at the age of 30). She oversees the strategic imperative and execution of both HR and Corporate Affairs functions. She holds Masters Degree from the University of KwaZulu Natal, and Post Graduate Diploma in General Management from the European School of Management & Technology (ESMT) Berlin, Germany.
Candice Watson is Group Human Capital Executive at the AECI, experienced corporate leader from diverse sectors, covering FMCG, logistics, financial services, and IT. A dynamic, professional leader with a global perspective of business, passionate about driving best practice principles across geographies. She is currently enrolled for PhD at the University of Cape Town pursuing her research interest in understanding the under representation of women in senior management.
Nontu is a long distance runner and has completed 5 Comrades Marathons. In February 2020, she became the first woman from Africa to run 7 Marathons on 7 Continents in 7 consecutive days to raise funds for the betterment of the education of 657 children of Khiphinkunzi Primary School – a deep rural village school in KwaZulu Natal, Mutubatuba, Dukuduku village. She raised R1.7 million to build 5 new classrooms, completed in February 2021.
